Hello buzritchy.
I'm glad you're not giving up on your dreams-that's more than enough to get you there.
About using someone from a different tribe as a sponsor; you can do it. I'll advice you to take time off work and any other activity that might distract you while packaging your app.
A VO considers some essential questions while assessing a study permit app;
1. Is the individual a student?
2. Doe he have the funds to study and live in Canada?
3. Is the individual a flight risk?

I believe if you can package your app efficiently to answer these questions without appearing desperate you have a great chance of achieving your goal. If your sponsor can show commitment, I don't think his tribe or affiliation to you should be a problem. Just try to think out of the box when you hit a snag. Blessed be bro. Good day all
I have taken out time to look through the different parts of the tread and I must say, nairaland is one educative and informative platform. Each and every one of you has tried so much for the continuation of this thread. You guys rock.
I applied to Thompson Rivers University four weeks ago, still waiting to hear from them, looking and preparing ahead, I have a few questions and worries, please any help with answers here will be greatly appreciated.
1) My sponsor is my sister who is married with four kids, will there be any issue since she no longer answer the same surname with me. Also, if I choose to use the husband instead, will this reduce my chances of getting the study permit, finally do i need to prove she is my sis or he is my sis's husband and which best way for me to prove this (any advice there)
2) From my reading of the previous part of this thread, I notice where someone said they requested he pays 1year tuition, is it compulsory after I have paid the tuition deposit to my school.
3) Does my account statement matters since I have a sponsor.

Please answer and advice will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Your account statement matters if you are working. You need to show VO your personal financial status.
Tuition fee payment is school policy. Some schools want you to pay deposit and some want a term payment at a specific date. Contact your school to know what is up.

Concerning your first question, you can use any of them provided they have enough cash to fund your academics. Its not compulsory to prove the relationship but u can do it by submitting her birth certificate and marriage certificate. Birth certificate will show she's ur sister coz of d name on it and marriage certificate will show the man is married to your sister. I hope this helps.

HOW TO FIND ANY INFORMATION ON THIS THREAD, NO MATTER WHEN IT WAS POSTED

All you need to do is to enter the following into Google search:
your search phrase "travelling to canada part" site:nairaland.com

For example, to search for spousal open work permit aka SOWP (per @BE811APP's question), you would paste the following into Google:
"spousal open work permit" "travelling to canada part" site:nairaland.com

or you could try:
sowp "travelling to canada part" site:nairaland.com

To search for people going to a particular school, say Georgian College Barrie-ON (per @ajaereogechi's question) for example, enter this:
"Georgian College" "travelling to canada part" site:nairaland.com

TO REFINE YOUR RESULTS BY DATE POSTED:
Once the Google search results show up, click on Search Tools (just under the search bar) then click Past Month or Past Year or Custom Date Range... etc thesoj I dint see

For general Google search tricks, view this page.

PhD is one tricky academic spot to secure, due to availability of funding. You need to be very lucky... I suggest you study the research expertise of those professor and come up with a good proposal based on knowledge gaps rather than sending emails.

Have you authored any publication?

Ok boss. I haven't authored a publication yet, but will do so early next year.

Re: Travelling To Canada Part 9 by thesoj: 10:36pm On Nov 02, 2015
@ChicoBoy @sholay2011 you are welcome.

@ajaereogechi by doing a google search I found that on June 21st @wayaa007 also asked the same question about whoever was going to Georgian College. @inconnu also asked the same question on May 2. You could ask either of them.

I have sent almost 35emails to Professors in my field across most of the universities in Canada during the weekend(Fri, Sat, Sunday). 6 of them said they aren't accepting any grad student this coming FALL 2016, and Almost 25 haven't replied, 1 said they need 77%, which i told him if I can send my WES evaluated transcript(awaiting his reply) and 1 replied this below yesterday..

Dear EbuDox
Thank you for your email.  Before any further discussion we need to know if you have the grades to be accepted by McGill Univeristy.  Please send a copy of your transcripts and your TOEFL scores if you have taken the exam.  I hope that you have checked McGill’s website for applicants to graduate studies.
Cheers,
.

Guys, what should this dull boy do?. Or am i not getting something right?. Abi I should wait, maybe they will reply me this week?.. Most schools deadline is fast approaching.. Should I apply without contacting any professors again?. I dunno what to do.. angry sad angry

PS: My school doesn't issue transcript handy to students. But I have my transcript already evaluated by WES.. I had 3.54/5.0 (3.15/4.0 WES evaluation). angry angry angry
..

Hello house...I think i finally got a partial-positive response.. I sent the professor my unofficial wes transcript, CV and my degree certificate..but he sent this bolded msg below..

Dear Ebudoxman

I would like you to proceed with your application as your transcript is of an acceptable standard and I think your background in Paleontology and research interests are well aligned with my research. I think you would fit in well.

However, I need to reinforce with you that at present I have no money to support a new MSc student.

This may change in April 2016 as I have applied for a 5 year research grant, which if awarded to me would allow me to support 1 to 2 new MSc students.

We also have limited funds within the MSc program to offer graduate teaching assistantships (to teach laboratory sessions for undergraduate courses).

Should you proceed with your application to XX it is on the understanding that my acceptance of you as my student depends on funding being in place for you.

My intent here is not to discourage you, but to be clear to you about the limited opportunities for student support.

The application process is straight forward, but I am happy to provide assistance.

I have cc’d here the xxxS Administrative Assistant, She can assist you with any questions you have about the application process.

There are 2 forms to fill in and submit; a Brandon University graduate application (international) form, and the Bleep Information form. They can be found here

The Bleep Information form also asks for a 300-500 word statement where you tell us why you chose Brandon University and the Bleep program, and that you have spoken to me and that I have said I was willing to supervise your MSc project. I am happy to assist you with writing this statement.

There is a non-refundable fee for an application.

As you are a graduate of a Nigerian university it is my understanding that the English language test is not required. Please confirm this with Brandon University admissions.

Please do not proceed with any visa applications until you have confirmation of acceptance into Bleep and that I have funding in place to support your graduate position.

Please do get in touch if you have any questions.

Kind regards.

I'm just concern about the No funding stuff.. But my question is , would the admission letter be out before April .. All I pray for now is he should be granted his research grant , so that I'll benefit from it.. And God will make his grant to be approved.. angry sad

Hello Everyone,
This thread i must say is very helpful and provides a lot of insight. God bless all that has contributed in putting smiles on peoples face(Amen)
I have read with great interest the study permit application process. i have applied to grad school for the fall 2016 session, but i will like to travel with my husband and 3 kids. Funding is not the issue just that am yet to see people comment on the process and also if they are any issues with this. Many thanks. Applied to Uofm for M.ed.

I was thinking about this but how do I go about having two passport? Is it not a problem if I tender another passport at the POE different from the one I used for application. Thank you

you won't have two. The old one will be 'canceled without prejudice'. Make sure you have both passports at the POE.
You can use a passport cover or rubber band like me smiley

2. I will be solely responsible for the finances
3. What are the steps i need to take to move my family down there without any issue
4. What are my chances of getting job there soon to sustain my family(i have a technical background)
5. How tolerant are the canadian govt to immigrants

Any other information will be highly appreciated. Thanks
