Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State has ordered the immediate retirement of all permanent secretaries in the state’s civil service.
This was contained in a statement signed by the governor’s Principal Secretary, Chief Clement Nweke, and made available to the media on Sunday in Abakaliki.
According to the statement, only the Clerk of the State House of Assembly, Rose Nwokporo, is exempted from the retirement exercise.
The statement said: “The affected officers are to complete all handover exercises in their respective ministries, boards and agencies before the close of work on Monday, November 16.
“All commissioners, heads of parastatals and agencies in the state, are to ensure total compliance to this directive.”
In another development, the Ebonyi Government has debunked media report that Government House in Abakaliki was gutted by fire on Friday.
The was contained in a statement by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Emma Anya, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abakaliki on Sunday.
The statement urged citizens of the state to disregard the report, calling on media practitioners to be ethical in their conduct by verifying all sources of information.
The statement said: “There was an electrical spark in the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Petroleum Products Pricing and Distribution, Mr Bassey Chima.
“No portion of the office was damaged as the SSA was attending the burial of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. Pius Anyim’s mother-inlaw, when the incident occurred.
“When Chima was alerted of the incident, he ‘raced’ to Abakaliki and to God’s glory, staff of the government house had `doused’ the effect of the spark.”
The statement indicated that only a photocopier and television set were slightly affected, and that no portion of the government house was gutted by the fire.

My people please can someone tell me what is happening to our apostles of good governance during the last administration? why is everybody quiet about the fuel scarcity that has lingered for almost one month now. Our APC fans whom are you blaming now GEJ or Dieziani? what of our bring back crusaders?plz why have they gone cold or are the girls back? A bag of rice is now 11,500 I guess it will get to about 14k before Xmas. Last year we bought a full bag for between 7,500 to 8000 at Christmas. You guys are in charge now for 6 months yet all we get are excuses and blame game. what am I even hearing about TSA? corruption among the saints? You no longer criticise our soldiers. You have stopped calling them names.Our president has approved the release of 413bn to pay for subsidy. I thought they said subsidy amount was over bloated during the time of GEJ. Why are my people not talking again? How much job has been created since May 2015? How many unemployed Nigerians have started receiving the 5000 stipend? Why are we not asking questions? Has promise of Change become Change of promise? We are just watching.

Ebonyi has left Ekiti and Osun in the league of poverty stricken states with low economy and low IGR. That's a fact with proof from Government bodies.

You guys can lie to yourselves, the government can not.

You can continue to think what makes you feel alright. Ebonyi is and will always be miles ahead of Osun and Ekiti in all ramifications concerning development.
