actually, not quite so. without holiness, no one can see God. confirm truth, bro. you are to strive for perfection.

besides jesus was especially emphatic on the issue of donating things. no man who owns property can inherit the kingdom of God. you must forsake and hate everything. even your life. for you to make heaven. jesus said that. i didn't.

hahn, our discount expert, has some nice deals. would you care to consider our offer? seriously, hell is a pretty swell place. wink

Tell am. We have some scientists trying to figure out how to convert all that heat and fire in hell into electricity so that we can start installing acs and other electronics. Residents will now be able to charge their devices and connect to the internet to communicate with their loved ones who are not dead. No more quija boards grin

Some businessmen have even decided to convert hell into the dubai of the afterlife with luxury that exceeds heaven.

Bros relax. I wasn't attacking you. I just sometimes get peeved when Islam is accused of being more violent than Christianity; to me this point is historically untrue. Please reread my post. I only partially disagreed with you and didn't attack you. Also, I didn't infer that you were Christian. If I did, I apologize. Abeg relax dude.

In any case, I'm not Muslim and I've never been.

My point is that Christianity and Islam are both very violent. Modern Christianity is often violent in a sophisticated and more systematic and sanitized way -- e.g. George W. Bush said he was doing God's work when he decided to invade Iraq of which hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians are now dead thanks to American bombs. America's unconditional support of Israel's uncontrolled murder and oppression of Palestinians is heavily fueled by the unparalleled support of its evangelical Christians (amongst other reasons). This sort of violence has the exact same lethal impact (though sometimes more) as the sort of violence that the Islamic jihadists inflict; the only difference is that the former is more sanitized while the latter is barbaric. By the way my point is that the worst of both religions, even in this modern age, are equivalent. Also, I assert that most Muslims and most Christians do not typify the worst of their respective religions.

Even though I am not theistic anymore (you can read my Nairaland posts like this or this), the humanist and ethical side of me sees the depredation that the worst of both Christianity and Islam are responsible for. That I point out this equality of violence doesn't make me religious. You are welcome to disagree with me, but rushing to label me a Muslim is unnecessary.

To your point about the Old Testament not being part of Christianity, I disagree. Yahweh claims to be the same yesterday, today, and forever. Therefore according to the Bible, the Yahweh of the Old Testament is the same as the Yahweh of the New Testament. In the New Testament, Jesus said he came not to abolish the law (i.e. Old Testament Mosaic laws) but to fulfill the law (i.e. encourage people to adhere to the same Old Testament laws in a more spiritual and meaningful way though not literally). The God of the Old Testament is the same as the God of the New Testament, and Christians selectively pick and choose what part of the Old Testament they will follow. Nowhere in the New Testament did Jesus or any of the apostles disavow the spirit of the Old Testament. I am willing to have the Old Testament/New Testament conversation if you'd like, as I once was very invested in the truth claims of the Bible. Plus, I think Jesus was an awesome dude though I don't think he was divine.

Once again, disagreeing with you is not attacking you.

Teempakguy:
you know, the problem i have with you muslims is that, anytime your religion is challenged, when you're not calling for deaths, you instantly proceed to generalize that the person condemning your religion is christian. you then conclude that what you guys are doing is OK because christians are doing it. why? it's like you're forever doomed to copy christians. undecided
that's just one point. the second is, you just said yourself that what muslims are doing today is what christians have did in the past. doesn't that imply backwardness? i mean, the spanish inquisition was over 300 years ago. the crusades over 1500 years ago. those ages are characterized by general foolishness, stupidity and ignorance on the part of all christians. are you now implying that modern muslims are equally mentally challenged?

concerning your last line, well . . . the old testament is not christianity at all. it's judaism. and it's also the backbone of islam as well. everything that happened in the old testament is confirmed to be true and to be the will of allah. the prophets.{i.e musa, yusuf, this jonah guy.} are all confirmed to be the prophets of allah. so, that point does not hold any water. or liquid . . .

okay. here is the thing. i'm also not christian. i'm atheist. however, my entire point is based on the fact that islam is violent now. however, they should do something about it. christians have been violent in the past. and the only other thing with associate with eras like that is ignorance and superstitions. so islam should stop being violent.

Ok smiley. I didn't think you were Christian. But please reread the part of my post about systematic violence in the name of modern Christianity.

I also do agree with you that there are several modern factions of modern Islam that are barbaric and violent, but it is not fair to throw most or all Muslims in this bucket. These violent factions are in the minority. Throwing all Muslims into this bucket of violence would erode our level of empathy towards the mostly Muslim victims of jidahists and national governments. For example, Boko Haram's victims have been mostly Muslim. The civilian collateral damage from the Nigerian military's attacks on Boko Haram also have been mostly Muslim. Also, most of ISIS's victims have been Muslim, but the civilian collateral damage from foreign bombs have also been mostly Muslim.

bro, i'm not disagreeing.
have you noticed that these extremist muslims come from places with little or no education?
i think it has a lot to do with the way religion itself is. without education, people become savages when indoctrinated with religion. and that is a very big problem.

you can't argue however, that a very good way to stop islam violence would be to wage war against extremist islam. would you? one way would be to officially remove those xenophobic and extremist versions from the qu'ran officially. if they can do that, then what do you think will happen?
Re: Why Didn't Allah Protect The Other Holy Books? by Antiparticle(m): 8:46pm On Nov 16, 2015
Yes, I agree with you that Islamic extremism comes from places with little or no education. Poverty and no education seem to create a toxic mix when combined with Islam.

@Battling Islamic extremism: while I agree with you that removing the violent parts of the Koran would help, I don't think this will ever happen. I read somewhere that tampering with the words of the Koran is supposed to be a huge anathema (and you know what that would lead to). I do strongly agree though that waging war against extremism would likely lead to more extremism (it would likely just create more extremists). The best way would be through creating systems that remove inequality, creating systems that enable young people to feel like they have hope in their economic future, and removing systems of oppression that cause young people to radicalize.

well, this is possible. . . . i subscribe to this anyway.
however, what i will not stand for is muslims justifying the violence by claiming that christians have done worse. that is in bad taste.

I have never met a Muslim that has stated the bolded. Any person like that has the tendencies of extremism. I know that often times Muslims point to Christian violence not to justify Muslim violence but to express that their religion does not have the monopoly on violence.

Visitor700:
The previous Books were not preserved because:-

1. They were only meant for a particular group of people and limited to a particular point in time. Allah revealed the Quran for all mankind and He took it upon Himself to preserve it till the last day.

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah: "The Prophet said, 'I have been given five things which were not given to any one else before me.
1. Allah made me victorious by awe, (by His frightening my enemies) for a distance of one month's journey.
2. The earth has been made for me (and for my followers) a place for praying and a thing to perform Tayammum, therefore anyone of my followers can pray wherever the time of a prayer is due.
3. The booty has been made Halal (lawful) for me yet it was not lawful for anyone else before me.
4. I have been given the right of intercession (on the Day of Resurrection).
5. Every Prophet used to be sent to his nation only but I have been sent to all mankind.'
(Sahih Bukhari, Volume 1, Book 7, Number 331)

2. The former scriptures were abrogated by the latter.

"Whatever message We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, We bring one better than it or one like it: Knowest thou not that Allah Hath power over all things?”
(Quran 2:106)

3. Allah didn't promise to preserve the previous books. The responsibility of preserving those scriptures was entrusted to the rabbis and the priests.

" ... And the rabbis and the priests (judged according to their Scriptures), for to them was entrusted the protection of the Book of Allah, and they were witnesses to it... "
(Quran 5:44)
trash!!! The previous book was meant for particular set of people YET Allah command muhammed to confirmed from the book?

Since Allah allowed his previous Revelations to be corrupted by weak
human people, this leads to one of the
following assumptions about Allah:

1. Allah is a weak god; he could not protect his previous Revelations. He
also gains more power and might
throughout time, because he supposedly is now able to protect his last revelation, the Quran.
2. Allah does not care about people being misled by counterfeit revelations. And yet he will still punish individuals with hell fire because they follow a corrupted Message even though they may have not come to the realization that Allah had allowed it to be corrupted.
That means Allah is unjust.

Surah 6:115: “The word of your Lord
is complete, in truth and justice.
NOTHING SHALL ABROGATE HIS WORDS.
He is the Hearer, the Omniscient.” (Khalifa)

Here the quran say nothing shall abrogate Allah word, However, note the contradiction in Surah 2:106:

“Whatever verse we shall abrogate,
or cause (thee) to forget, we will
bring a better one than it, or one
like unto it. Dost thou not know that
God is almighty?”

Another example of abrogation on
account of “lightening the burden of
Muslims” is found in Surah 73:1-2 and
Surah 73:20.

Surah 73:1-2: “O you wrapped in garments (i.e. Prophet Muhammad)!
STAND (tO PRAY ) ALL NIGHT , except a
little.” (Hilali-Khan)

However, the above two verses are
abrogated by the last verse of the very
same Surah:

Surah 73:20: “Verily, your Lord knows
that you do stand (to pray at night) a
little less than two-thirds of the night,
or half the night, or a third of the
night, and so do a party of those with
you, And Allah measures the night
and the day. HE KNOW THAT YOU ARE UNABLE TO PRAY THE WHOLE NIGHT , so He has turned to you (in mercy). So,
recite you of the Qur’an as much as
may be easy for you.” (Hilali-Khan)

The directive to “Stand to pray all night,
except a little” in Surah 73:2 is abrogated by Surah 73:20 – the last verse of the same Surah. But then it was
abrogated again by the implementation
of the five daily prayers. Thus, the
abrogator was abrogated.

Reread my previous post before the one you quoted. I never said Islam was peaceful. I contend that both Christianity and Islam are violent, period. I argue that modern Christianity, also, can be violent but in systematic & sanitized ways compared to the clearly barbaric violence out of modern Islam. Reread my previous three posts.

Also, the Old Testament Yahweh was a homicidal/genocidal/infanticidal maniac, so I don't accept your claim that that the Christian God (who supposedly is the same entity as the Old Testament Yahweh or the New Testament Jesus) teaches to love your enemies. Yes, Jesus indeed teaches to love your enemies but this is endlessly violated in the Bible. If the Christian God was loving, why did he murder Ananais and Sapphira just because they lied about a mere piece of land? This punishment of death was excessively cruel and unusual. Why did Yahweh get bears to murder forty-two children just because they were making fun of Elisha's bald head?

I am not an apologist for Islam, so I don't understand why you expect me to address the notion that atheists cannot express their beliefs in such countries. Of course it is true that atheists cannot come out publicly in most Muslim countries. Of course it is true that barbaric violence comes out of extremist factions of Islam. But you have to realize that Christianity was this same way for most of its history as well! The only difference today is that those who commit violent acts in the name of modern Christianity (or with the support of modern Christians) often do it using more sophisticated weaponry and verbiage.

That you say that those who committed violent acts aren't true Christians is the exact same thing as a Muslim saying those who commit violent acts aren't true Muslims. This is the "no true Scotsman" fallacy.

By the way, I am not "an atheist", as this is not my identity or creed. I am atheistic about all gods I've ever heard about and I identify closer to agnostic or deist; overall, I am humanist. If there is evidence that god(s) exist, I would change my mind in a jiffy, but there isn't any real evidence of the existence of any god(s). "God" is an invention of the human mind.

I have seen muslim boys up north in Nigeria using the pages of the blue pocket new testament bibles they share around to smoke weed back in the days. I used to feel very terrible about it. I used to silently pray to God to strike them for desecrating his holy book. But it never happened grin grin
God cannot strike them, cos that isn't his plan for mankind, he want all to come to the knowledge of the truth and be saved through Jesus christ and enjoy the benefit in his grace.

I consider Quran to be the final testament. One version memorized by millions. If a word or syllable were to be altered, it would be recognized immediately. I mean no disrespect to the Bible , but there are different versions, and people rarely memorized the entire book as the Quran has been. Quran is practically the only book millions at any one time have committed to memory. This in itself is layer of preservation.

According to the muslims, Allah sent down the Torah to Moses and the Injeel to Jesus but they were later corrupted. Muslims also tell us that Allah also sent down the Koran to Mohammed but he is protecting it from corruption. The question is why will Allah send down two books and allow them to be corrupted, doesn't he want people to know the true messages he revealed? Why reveal something as important as that as an almighty God and allow mere men to corrupt it twice? Why protect the Koran over other the other two messages you have revealed? How does that make any sense? Muslims in the house over to you.
Thank you for your question
The overarching importance of the noble Quran, which Muslims believe is the word of God (Allah in Arabic), is underscored in Islam owing to a number of factors such as the following:

1. The Quran is, according to Islam, the last of the revealed scriptures of God. It clearly teaches that all the previous scriptures have been revealed by God Almighty to His prophets, though they were not preserved intact over time. Only the noble Quran has been protected from addition, deletion, or interpolation. That is why Muslims believe that today, only the noble Quran is authentic as the word of God.

And what is more, it is kept intact on a tablet preserved in Heaven for all times. And in fact, the essential message of all the earlier scriptures was extracted from the same tablet, called in the Quran the "Preserved Tablet":

{Nay, this is a Glorious Quran (inscribed) in a Tablet Preserved!} (Al-Buruj 85:21-22)

"The phrase "in the Preserved Tablet" means, it is among the higher rank groups (i.e., angels), preserved and protected from anything being added or taken away, or from any alteration or changes."
2. God Almighty in the noble Quran clearly states that all the previous scriptures were revealed provisionally for the benefit of a particular people of a particular period. But the noble Quran is the final testament of God revealed for the whole of humanity, until the Day of Judgment. For this reason, all the teachings contained in the former scriptures which were meant to be of lasting value and importance are included in the Quran.

3. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was the final messenger from Allah to mankind; and he brought the final revelation from God to man. Therefore, the scripture containing this revelation is the last of the sacred scriptures.

The basic message of the noble Quran is the same as the basic message of the previous revelations and books; and the teachings and instructions by which it provides guidance for man are of a universal nature. They apply for all times to come and to all situations.

This revelation corresponds to a critical juncture that marks a stage of cultural, intellectual, and spiritual development in human history.

4. If you make a careful study of the language and subject of the Quran and the language and subject of other scriptures, you can see the clear difference of the Quran.

It is a fact that there is no scripture of any religion existing now in the same form as it existed at the time of its revelation. In most cases, we have only translations, not the original scripture.

As for the Quran, it is the original Arabic Quran that is always called the Quran, not any translation. That is to say, the noble Quran is the only scripture that exists in the same language and form in which it was originally revealed by Allah Almighty to humankind.

5. Another important point to note about the Quran is the perfect harmony between its content and language. We may get to know the meaning of the Quran from a translation, preferably with sufficient explanations. But the beauty of the Quranic language is to a great extent lost to any one who does not know Arabic.

As a matter of fact, the verses of the Quran appeal to our heart and head at the same time; as we see in them a harmony of rhyme, rhythm and reason, a matching of powerful ideas with moving expression.

We should remember that the Quran came at a time in Arabia when poetry was reigning supreme; but the master-poets of the day could not equal the Quranic richness in diction, style, and beauty. Indeed, its haunting rhythms rocked the whole of Arabia from Sudan to Syria and from Morocco to Oman, and continues to awe those who listen to it, even if they do not understand Arabic.

It is noteworthy that while the Quran continues to occupy the pedestal as an abiding model for literary Arabic, the languages of other scriptures have, more or less, become dead languages.

6. In fact, there is no other Book in human history that has molded, and is continuing to mold, the life of generations of people as the Quran. Every verse of the Book has become the unalterable source of a code of laws that govern every aspect of the life of Muslims.

This was a Book that brought into being the renowned universities and centers of learning that awakened a new enlightenment in the world, such as no other civilization of the past could match.

It was indeed a brilliant and lasting miracle of Allah effected through the Quran, which was at the center of a unique spiritual revolution, which shines through history. The Quran helped in forging unity among tribes, races and social classes. It liberated the thought patterns and the ennobled human knowledge.

The Quran also contained the criteria for social transformation.

Consequently, even some people, such as the Mongols who conquered Islamic lands and triumphed over the Muslims owing to their military superiority, lost their dominance in the end when they were confronted with the spiritual power of Islam. In addition, it is an interesting historical fact that eventually most of them even adopted the religion of the people they had conquered.

It is to be noted that the Qur’an contains the pure word of Allah. Not a single word of it is not divine. Not a single word has been deleted from its text. The Book has been handed down to our age in its complete and original form since the time of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him).

From the time the Book began to be revealed, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) dictated its text to scribes, and thus it was committed to writing as well as memory.
The Qur'an is the only scripture that is preserved in its entirety both in writing and in memory from the day of its revelation until our time—1436 years ago.

Now, the question remains to be answered: Why didn't Allah choose to preserve the earlier messages (Torah, Gospel, etc.) the way He took upon Himself the task of preserving the Qur'an?

As for the claim that Allah did not preserve Divine Books (such as Torah, Gospel, etc.) or allowed them to be tainted and corrupted, this is not true. This is because Allah entrusted the People of the Book with the task of preserving and guarding their Books from any corruption but they disobeyed Him and failed to do so.

This is stated in the Qur'an, "It was We who revealed the law (to Moses): therein was guidance and light. By its standard have been judged the Jews, by the prophets who bowed (as in Islam) to Allah's will, by the rabbis and the doctors of law: for to them was entrusted the protection of Allah's Book, and they were witnesses thereto..." (Al-Ma'idah 5:44)

That is why Allah took upon Himself to guard the Qur’an. Almighty Allah says, “Lo! We, even We, reveal the Reminder (Qur’an), and lo! We verily are its Guardian.” (Al-Hijr 15:9)

Allah Almighty knows best.
