I completely agree.

@Twinskenny, did you ever try to investigate "wireless transmission" of signals?
This is the future/present for your work.

The earlier you clue-in, the better.

Lastpage!

Thank you sir..

i have installed wireless cam in some places here.. the issue is the availability of those cameras... only have two combo here.. which is pretty expensive....

So I'll be shipping every single fire extinguisher for the house from either the UK or US.

Even though I won't pipe the house for fire sprinklers there will be two dedicated high volume fire hoses that will be connected to the EWT directly.

This is fire hose reel

the parapets and window sills, are from Polystryene Integrated Limited (PIL), as for the edging of the plastered walls, it was done by a mason using an edging/angle tool.

We are probably not talking about the same building. Below is the one we were talking about.

My Bros/Sis,
I am at the roofing stage for my site and need to decide on what brand/make of Aluminium steps tiles to use.
The roofwork has been designed for 0.55 gauge step tiles so will appreciate some advice on where to get the best materials to use.
I am being sent different quotes for different sizes of the same roof. How does that work? To date I have had 4 measurements of completely different sizes for the same roof. where's the consistency?
Which one do I take as the correct measurement/quote?
Now back to the actual roofing sheet I have had a few names so far. The ones that stand out are Tower Aluminium, Sumo Aluminium and Baltran.
I know Tower is reputable but very over-priced for my pocket so what are the other alternatives to Tower that still have quality (even though not as much as Tower). Is Sumo a good brand? Does anyone have their contact details? I have searched all over Lagos and online but not joy in finding them.

Please help me Fellow NL members

ITS EASY TO CHEAKMATE SUCH, but buyer dont cool down... They want original yet they want to pay less. Some pay high, but still give them china......No any Newzealand roof is below 3200per sqm, the cheapest.....Always get d info of the manufacturer with them, Now some put fake ISO Numbers, If u make something in Nigeria and u say its made in Korea is already FAKE.
KolaShangOne:

Hajji, its quite surprising how fake China products have flooded EVERY aspect of the Nigerian market. Things like toothbrush, car parts, Desktop charger etc.. I was checking out some materials yesterday, obviously China, but they wrote Made in New Zealand there etc..

Look for any two quotes that the difference between them is not that much. The lowest might not necessary be the best and the highest might also not be the best.

When i wanted to do my roofing, i got such quotes that confused me. One was about 100k more than the rest. Two of them had a difference of about 15k. So, i had to choose one of the two and give the person the job.

I was thinking about creating a thread to detail most of the things I know about common Roofing types (hip roof, gable roof, gembrel etc), Roofing materials ( Aluminium, stone coated tiles, thatch grin , Clay tiles etc), How to check for quality (China, Korea, Belgium,New Zealand), Prices, What to expect when you buy any of the products etc.. They are my opinions and every other peroan is welcome to give opinions.

PS: I'm not marketing. Just showing pros and cons of each type of material so you can make better choices. Years of research to be showcased

Went to a site at Ikorodu some few weeks ago to do a reconnaissance survey (looku looku). The Client told me he bought the land through his mum for 1 million naira. And that he has been unable to get headway with the project since inception. Always one issue or the other. Builders always abandoning.

Now when I got there, I know land in that area is not worth more than 300,000-400,000 at the most. Land agreement, Survey and others should be about 150k highest.

I spoke to the builder on site and he told me how EACH of the client's siblings plus his mother will come at different times telling him to PUT THEIR OWN ON TOP of any job he does no matter how little. If you don't comply, they bastardize you and convince their brother toto abandon you.

I really pity people in the diaspora because its almost a lose-lose. Their biggest enemy sometimes bear the same surnames with them. If you want to know how 1000 blocks finished in a split second, ask your family member. If you want to know how 300sqm turned to 500sqm, ask your family member. Not everyone has bad family members, but most of them see their siblings abroad as money bags..

I'm not absolving Engineers of wrong-doing. Not everyone has a conscience. If you're lucky to meet a good and honest Engineer, good for you.

If I have time to sit in one place for two weeks I will produce a 200 page book on my experiences in this matter, but not now. We must keep working. Nigeria is a frightening country, we really need prayers.

This country needs real re orientation. I cannot understand when or how things got this bad but the desperation to defraud people is surprising, but relatives stealing from their own blood is unforgivable.

The best solution is to be there to supervise the mixing otherwise na to choose randomly and break some from about half a meter and see how it disintegrates.

When i completed my project, a friend came to congratulate my elder brother that handled the entire project. He told me that he is not congratulating me because for the project to have been completed and i did not call family members to come and ask my elder brother what he did with the money i have been sending, it is him that deserves a big congratulations. Luckily for me, my elder brother was able to resist all the pressures mounted on him by contractors, suppliers, artisans etc to inflate figures for a kick-back. He is a hard negotiator and bargainer than me. Once i tell him that i have agreed a price with an artisan, he will tell me that it is high and that he will further drive it down and i normally agree because he is the person that is at home with them and so he knows the going rate at any point in time.

Oga Sypder, it has alot to do with our mentality, as Nigerians, that people abroad are plucking dollars from trees.

Another reason is poverty.. If you're the richest in your family and you're abroad, just forget sending money down for projects..

Thirdly, some people say their peeps abroad are stingy.. They are not contented with what they are given.. So they find any means to chop their money..

That is one good person out of 100. Personal experience don kill me...
Once my mother supported one of my brother to chop, she knows but never told me, I took the money from her monthly feeding allowance and the whole family heard about it and blamed her... and since then she never, ever get involved again.
Imagine out of 9 kids, I am the only one caring for her for many decades... and still supporting the lousy one... they all take me for granted.

Believe and trust these builders at your own peril. Spyder880 who publishes his prices here is the closest you can get to an honest builder/contractor. Some family members, usually the younger ones step in when they realize that the contractor is trying to rip off their brother in the diaspora. Most of the time it's the builder that offers them a cut in order for them to convince their brother to keep the funds coming.
The only remedy for the guy abroad is if he makes out time to come down and buy the materials himself. He can then negotiate on the charges for supervision and workers.

Most elder brothers and uncles are like that. Sometimes a very close and good friend is even better. It's only when you leave it in the hands of younger siblings that one gets ripped off. Living in the hands of women (sisters, mothers and aunts) is worse. The builder will just pull wools over their eyes. All material, workers and supervision charges would be inflated by as much as 60%.
