Lalasticlal.a, You better place this on a front page bro.. It's so surprising on what we pay on electric supplies that doesn't stay for even 4hrs in sango and environs likewise some places in lagos state, Nigeria in general. I was billed for August with just 6k plus with an outstanding bill of 4k plus, the charges for that month of August was just 1k plus which is still fair with the rate of power supply in that environs, this morning I placed a call to the number placed on the Bill which was different from former number of the lady who was in charge of the bill, to my surprise I realize this silly man was only placing bill to each houses without considering the fact that there was no power supply for almost a month, my bill rose from 4k balance after I paid 2k on the August bill of 6k plus to 19k, and the man was telling me that he's new to the system and he will look into it but I should arrange some money for him when he will be coming to my environs, it's obvious this guy is enriching his pocket.. Abeg who is looking into this dubious and fraudulent act of some IBEDC workers
Op, 6K you said?? Still fair. My bill has currently rose to N45k+ now in 2months. I used to pay 4/5k, sometimes 3K/monthly as at last year. I noticed around September that year, I was sent N25k bill. I wrote a protest letter to PHCN in charge of my domain. I was told to pay the N25k since it was already accepted in their billing system. That something would be done next billing. Something was indeed done, but I was tricked. Oct 14 - February 2015 I was given N2k, N2.5k bill respectively. I was happy my complaint was addressed. But in April, they brought N30k+ bill, with outstanding from the N25 I was struggling to clear, it brought the bill to about N45k+.

My complaints were met with the same "go and pay, we'll look into your complaint subsequently. The same cycle continues. I have visited Alausa office with formal complaints and documentations, nothing tangible comes out. I have given up complaining. It's not as if my metre is faulty. There were months I used to read the metre and sent the readings to the account manager before bills are computed. I have applied to buy the prepaid metre for over a year now. No word. I am absolutely fed up with the situation. I have other things to do than visiting PHCN office weekly to complain on a single issue. The system sucks. A day of reckoning will soon come.

OP, it is worthy to note that the prepaid option is expensive, takes a very long time to process (six months to two years), comes with expensive service charge and sometimes, gets damaged easily.. But in all sincerity, if you have a prepaid meter, it's way better than dashing those evil companies your hard earned cash.

These are the things we thought the change government will correct but all we hear daily are corruption this and corruption that on the pages of newspapers..

Re: Crazy Bills Everywhere Despite No Regular Power Supply by Nobody: 1:24pm On Nov 24, 2015
The government of Nigeria has a perfect understanding of the working of the minds of its masses and it's leveraging on that to the maximum.

Once a government understands its people are OK with almost any situation, no matter how demeaning it may be, then that government has no reason whatsoever to improve.

When last I tried to raise this issue of paying for darkness, I was rudely interrupted by other Nigerians who have become dead to reason and commonsense. I simply walked away, shaking my head.

Until the masses learn to protest whatever injustice the government metes to them, they are in for a long thing.

Energy is Expensive........
Nigeria tariff per consumption (kW/h) is still among the lowest in the world- try compare with UK and other like countries. What we lack is Energy efficiency and management and regulations. we waste energies which we in turn pay for.

What are our regulatory bodies banning when we have old technology consuming energies- any appliances without energy saving logo is a NO for me. I managed my consumption with my Prepaid meter and my energy saving appliances.......

Energy is Expensive, save energy if you don't need it and save your billing. 15hrs a day is not to bad in my area.

Do you have a meter, always follow their readings
I've been doing just that..the next excuse they came up with was that i have a faulty Meter, since my figure wasnt tallying with the concocted figures they manufacture in their office...went as far as snapping my meter readings and then they stopped for while, now they've gone back to their old ways. Dem never jam. Those complaining about 7k bills should thank God..i know I will if I get a single digit bill, I will even share a testimony

In fact, this is daylight robbery especially with the so called dc's.with the outrageous and ridiculous over billing they bring, the NERC need to look into the matter, cuz with the epileptic power supply and over billing something need to be done urgently.
Re: Crazy Bills Everywhere Despite No Regular Power Supply by Nobody: 1:28pm On Nov 24, 2015
We received a bill of over 80K on an empty property consuming no power. This was over a 6 month period
The annoying thing is that we paid over 100K for 2 metres that never appeared
We paid another 35k a few days ago and one meter has appeared
we have been told to pay another 70K for a phase 3 meter
we said we are coming cool grin
The only saving grace for them right now is that power is constant and we go for 48 hours without any cut and it is back within 4 hours.
Re: Crazy Bills Everywhere Despite No Regular Power Supply by Nobody: 1:28pm On Nov 24, 2015

Our bill later month was 6k on top no light o. We have not had light since 7am on Sunday.
Funny thing is I said let me call to complain, unfortunately there is no number to call. I saw an email I could send a mail to on ikeja electricity distribution company website and I complained, next thing I saw is mailer daemon, bounce back of life.
Plus we habe only slept with nepa light 2 times since I moved to the area 18months ago. Ketu alapere

If there is constant power it is okay. But definitely not with the anemic power supply.

Pre paid meter is the way to go.

I swear, if Boko haram were bombing politicians, police stations and power stations at mid nights, Nigerians wouldn't have any reason to hate them.. People keep screaming how corrupt the NNPC is but have failed to see that the power companies are the most corrupt and criminal mafia organizations ever.

I still won't take away the fact that Jonathan failed in this aspect. At least, he should have had those bastards sign agreement to supply power for at least 12 hours each day and never bill above what they supply, else, he'd revoke their privatization and have them pay huge fines. Simply agreements would have solved this issue in the early privatisation process.

This is one of the issues I thought Buhari would correct immediately after May 29 but he preferred to bank on his body odour..

Wow! 30k is outrageous but am not surprised since we've received bills of 27k before.. This bills came in periods when we had just 24-30 hours power supply per month..

Solar panel is actually the best bet. If you can afford high rating panels of up to 8 - 12 pieces with about 10 200Ah batteries + a 20KVa inverter, you may even power your air condition and refrigerator. It's expensive tho, but I think it's worth the cash!
Re: Crazy Bills Everywhere Despite No Regular Power Supply by maasoap(m): 1:36pm On Nov 24, 2015
I used to pay between N1,200 and N2,500 monthly but since the last two months, it has been changed to estimation (N6,500) even though they are still taking the reading on my meter but didn't use it to bill me. I was told that the new policy of IBEDC was that if you don't use either 80 units or 100 units in a month, your reading will not be entered and you will be given estimation.
Personally, I won't pay this estimation. I'm waiting for them to come and disconnect my power supply and I will go and pay for prepaid meter with new name and account. And will discuss how to bury the old account with its debt, I can't pay for service or goods that I didn't consume. Never.
