500 Nigerian Deportees: It’s A Lie, Only 48 Deported From The UK – Immigration

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has denied reports that 500 Nigerians were on Wednesday morning deported back to Nigeria from the United Kingdom, stressing that only 48 persons were actually deported.

The Nigerian media space had been awash with the news, after the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported that 500 Nigerians were deported from the UK on Tuesday evening on a chartered plane which took off from the London Stansted Airport and landed around 6am at the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

According to a spokesperson of the NIS, Mr. Ekpedeme King, the 48 Nigerians were deported for overstaying their visa validity period and other immigration-related offences.

On the other hand, another spokesperson told The Punch that the 48 deportees had nothing to do with the 29,000 Nigerians the UK government is planning to deport back to Nigeria.

48 people who spent their time, money and effort to travel cause the government of their nation has failed them and as such, they have to seek for greener pastures were dis honorably deported and all u can say is, they are ONLY 48? What has the ministry of foreign affairs and the Nigerian high commission done about this? Or do they also abandon Nigerians in d diaspora the same way they leave we Nigerians @ home to fend for ourselves? We provide our own electricity through generators, our own water through boreholes, our own security through body guards(for those who can afford em) and prayers by those who can't. Is it the Nigerian government that deported the illegal immigrants from the UK or the British authorities?

It is not the government's fault that twitter and other social media decided to inflate the figures. The Nigerian immigration has now clarified the exact figures and yet you blame the government.

Even if the UK deports 1 million Nigerians, it has nothing to do with this government

1. Most of them have been living illegally in the UK for over 5 years, some 15-20 years

2. It is not the government's fault that they overstayed their visas

3. The government is not responsible for the residency requirements of another country

Please brother use your brain instead of criticizing aimlessly

Nigerians get deported everyday, a lot we dont hear about. No matter how good this country is and in spite of all the opportunities for those that have a brain, a lot of Nigerians will still try to risk their freedom to reside illegally in foreign countries
