Now the money they would have used in clearing those cars peacefully, they will now use in bailing themselves and fixing their cars + the camry.

But the owners of the cars are foolish sha. This is first class penny wise pound foolish. You can afford to buy cars in millions but don't have ordinary thousands to clear and register them. Clearing those cars might not cost more than 900k.

It's the yoruba translation of smugglers.

let me educate the op on this topic. I leave around that area and was at the filling station (NNPC) at the time it happened. firstly the camry in question is as a result of an accident that happened very early in the morning vaused by the dangote trailer parked on the highway for some days and not the custom chase of car smuggler's. those land cruisers were possibly coming from cotonou because they dont have papers. in fact the smugglers put the lives of so many people in the neighbourhood at risk. do you know that the driver of the land cruiser you posted jumped out while in motion.
what I will advise is that if you want to bring in cars you any Nigerian port and not cotonou because the custom guys in benin and agbor are ready to follow you to any length.

All I can say is that something went wrong somewhere. Those cars are presumably from Lagos. The officers around ore, ijebu ode, and Benin couldn't stop the cars. Na Asaba unit do magic. More will come out of the story. Those cars had no number plates on them. Imagine them move seen from Lagos or cotonou as the case maybe.

I always warn people of buying cars without duty from Cotonou, I based in Cotonou and know how things work, Some people will give you cheaper price and tell you no problem but they will either cut fake custom duty for the vehicle or not pay at all...

For any car of your choice direct from Cotonou.. check my signature.

The custom officers are bunch of animals. What is the distance between that location and nigeria boader, this are vehicles that have travelled more than 400km away from the boarder.......the question is,how do they escape nigeria/cotonou boarder b4 been apprehended....in the process of chasing what if an innocent person was killed? I don't see any rationalty in their illegal act.....useless nigerian customs

Wao, because Custom Duty!
dubemnaija:
This incident happened on friday, the 27th of November at asaba. I was heading to the MTN office along the expressway when I saw about 5 Brand new 2015 model Land cruisers and a Hilux van being chased by some Custom guys; those custom officers were on Pathfinder truck. You dont need a prophet to be told that those cars were coming in from lagos or even Cotonou. It was learnt that those cars were driven by professional 'fire-wor' chauffeurs that are ready to kill any officer (police inclusive) if they are stopped at any check point. Those cars do not have custom papers and necessary clearance from NCS.

As the hot chase ensued, those 'fire-wor' guys tried outsmarting the custom officers by veering off the expressway unto the neighborhood - probably to find an escape route from there. The end result was disastrous as on of the Land cruiser cars hit a camry {which somersaulted many times} and knocking the driver unconscious.

A the end of the chase, 2 of the brand new Land cruiser jeeps were riddled with bullets; the other one's four tyres were all busted and the body badly damaged as a result of the collision with the camry. I managed to get some pictures of the one the Land cruisers. The other two has been towed away by the Custom and the FRSC guys. Only two of the new Land cruiser jeep and the hilux escaped the chase.

Morals: Never try to outsmart the law; Always be patient.
