My heart is broken in pieces as I write this. My elder brother battled with epilepsy for over 25 years....finally passed on in 2007 as he started having hallucinations and took an overdose of medications. I've not been myself since then. I loved him most of all my siblings of 6. He was so kind and gentle, never angry, always happy, despite the disease. The most painful part for my human heart was that we tried churches and pastors to no avail. Till date, I still feel God let me down. .

I have a very pretty young lady that goes into seizure monthly, sometimes weekly. I've watched her in seizures many times in public; inside danfo bus, on pedestrian bridge, in church, at the beach, etc.

I had to restrain her from the kitchen as she has had many bruises from broken dishes, hot oil, etc during seizure.

The best way to take care of people like that is to show them love, care and understanding. When they are in seizure, just let that moment pass and protect them from injury.

Then after, let then rest well. Pray for them and hug them often. Many of them suffer in silence. Never run away from them!

Funny enough, I don't see groups or volunteers standing up for them the way they do for HIV patients, cancer, sickle cell carriers, physically challenged, etc. It's totally unfair. The lady I'm talking about is 28. Imagine living that way for over 20 years. She is an undergrad and all her room mates had to vacate the apartment for her. She has no friend. No boyfriend. No hope of getting married someday. Afraid and depressed.

Btw, how is my little girl doing? It's been a while.

People need to be enlightened that so many things can cause.

growing up; I know a beautiful lady after careful observation we got to find out that when she get very angry that's when she have the epileptic seizures. We have to help her learn to always be happy and ignore people that are quarrelsome. it worked then but once a while it's even the ladies that makes her lose control and then the seizure oops.

we told the parents about our findings and to take her to the doctor for better help, I hope she is better now

We witnessed sth similar when we(my husband,I and our kids) visited my mum. We were indoors when suddenly we heard a noise outside. We out to the balcony and saw that a man was having seizures. No body dared to go close to him. Suddenly my younger sister just ran into the kitchen,sliced some onions,sqeezed the juice out and also plucked an aloe Vera leaf. My mum called her back because she felt it was contagious,but my sister ignored every one. When she got where the man was lying,she rubbed the onion juice and aloevera on his face,immediately he sneezed and regained himself. People were amazed at my sister's bravery. Even my husband and other men who witnessed it couldn't go close.

Op can you throw more light on the use of garlic and onion juice as stated above.
This method seems better than waiting for them to recover.
As for the NGO, you can start by creating a fb group and call on Nlanders to join. I will be interested in it.

When I saw the word "seizure" on front page I couldn't help to comment. I am also passing through the whole ordeal of one that's epileptic. mine is nocturnal epilepsy(meaning it happens when I'm asleep or half asleep), but it is one of the most dangerous.

My story is long.. But I want anyone reading this to encourage anyone passing through it. I am very close to Jesus (not ashamed to cry it loud) and that as helped me alot.. I finally got the required drugs for me and I have been seizure free for 1 year.

Talk about suicide, talk about depression, I passed through all of this for close 10 years.
I am young and very good looking and brilliant, that you won't have an idea that I pass through this. It almost terminated my life but thank God.

Please it is not infectious. I got mine from an head injury when I was much younger.

Op, God bless you for helping that fellow. My drugs is on the high side but thank God for his provision. Would have typed more but I have to run to bible study.

I suffer from from seizure disorder....... I see my doctor regularly and av learnt to notice d symptoms so I can avoid it.
I don't stress myself and I stay away from cold. I take antimalarial regularly......
I thank God for my family and few friends who stood by me when it all started.
Honestly its nt an easy ailment to manage,dew were times wen I convulsed in church and even in d lecture room, I used to b so ashamed. But now I never miss my drugs and wen I get to a new environment I try to let at least one person know abt my condition. I know I will overcome!

As for fast remedy I dad squeezes onions juice into my nostrils and even says I should eat as much as I can but am not faithful in dt sha.........

Seizure, commonly regarded as "warapa" is a neurological disorder and not a spiritual problem. Pls let's try to jettison our childhood superstitious belief for once..

I just witnessed one not quite long, but to my greatest surprise, most people around evacuated that surrounding .its so painful and dishearting. I couldnt help myself but shed tears with agony.. It was only myself and a brother that stayed with the victim .. After he regained consciousness he spoke with pain and wept like a day old child.. He told us this was the second time it would happen to him. He went further to ask for our assistance for him to buy his drug ( Epanutin) for just 1200naira..
To cut the story short, fellow Nigerians, this can happen to any one of us. Never run away from epileptic patients they are human beings like we do.. Here are things to do when someone develops seizure

My story is so touching.. It bring tears to close ones around. Epilepsy is a scourge, a disability that will likely take away your self esteem and even your life if you are not careful.

Once I get my footing, I will spend my life helping people passing through this stigma and ofcourse talk about my loving Jesus.

I am that brillant fellow in the engineering faculty people know about as being witty and to himself. Good looking but relationship issues is far from his side (despite not been too close to God then).. Did well in school, was on scholarship.

Went further for an MSc in the states then the seizure kicked in. Note that the seizure never attacked me doing my undergrad except for some disorder or migrane.. I almost did not complete my Msc cos of the seizure. I have thought about the fastest/painless poison killer but anytime that thought comes my mum face shows up.

I was even ready to make hell but the love of God has for me is so immeasurable. I have watched friends gave up on me. Relationship gone down the drain. Hope lost.

Oh my heart bleeds just recalling having those episode. At times it can be twice a week. Was this it I asked?

I hated life. I cursed myself and wept bitterly on my pillow every night.

My memory was going numb. My academics was shaking. My thesis prof broke my heart when he said " my effort induce sympathy" so as to accredit my research.

Oh, how did I stoop so low? How did I lose life dignity?

It is a year back and I still feel it as though it was yesterday. If not for Jesus, I would have taking my life like a childhood friend. I am not better than him but christ just love me.

Please I beg you. Stretch out an helping hands to anyone passing through this tumultuous event. Please I plead.
