See dirty environment, is it the school mgt. that dropped the litters, why can't students clean the environment, must they wait for the school management, you guys shouldn't wait for what the school can do for you, rather what you can do for the school.

Don't mind them

How much is their school fees?

How much do they pay as hostel fees? less than 5k right?

They should take that cash and go get a room with water and steady light in a neat environment off campus.

It's not like they clean the environment themselves, they will still waiting for cleaners on top hostel fees of less than 5k

If school management propose an increase in fees, they will strike.. Yet they want heaven on Earth..

Wait o. Most of those pictures can be solved by the students without paying a dime. Authorities didn't throw trash on your rooftops or mess up your bathrooms. Even in my alma mater , private, we had few responsibilities of cleaning..... Students assigned toilets and bathrooms to rooms, these bathrooms are locked and keys held by members of that room. Cleaning is distributed between these rooms. Its simple organization and you shouldn't stall ir education for these types of things. Its somewhat trivial if you look at the bigger picture.

Sir we paid 18,000 as development fee. The development fee is still hanging and we can't see the effect sir, I agreed we are paying less for hostel but why will the management address the press with lies? Why are they scared to tell the world the situation of things on campus maybe the government can stand to our cause if truly they are not hiding anything?

Come on, this is a university, you have people studying engineering, architecture, plumbing, woodwork etc. Why don't they put what they have learnt into practice in their school. Gone are the days when young people were happy to do community work. These days the women just want to sit on the sofa looking pretty with human hair watching African magic while the men want to do yahoo and show off in the club.

Na hand dey repair things not crying and complaining.

c you...evry goddamn studnt on that campus paid the school management to take good care of them so if you are sayin we askin too much frm them this time ah think you are jst not realistic

I beg to disagree sir. Every institution in the world, Nigeria inclusive have maintenance Department. If this department is functioning in that institution, what are their job?
are you suggesting that the students should use their pocket money to repair an institution that is funded by the federal Government?

Every year, I believe that every Federal and state government institution receive some fund from the government. what were they doing with it.
Can't they use part of the fund allocated to them and issue a tender for contractors that can do some repairs and renovation in their institution?

There are certain repairs students can do like a licking shower or pipe. not a full repair like the one I saw in that pic.

To also achieve this, they have to imbibe and practice a maintenance culture. It is because of lack of proper maintenance, it got to this level.

I didn't listen to the press conference you are speaking of.. I don't know what the School management said or didn't say.. And that has no bearing whatsoever on my previous comment.

The crux of that post is that You guys expect so much when you pay very little.. And Until Your SUG understand that they are a bridge between the Students and the Management, OAU will keep having this sort of problems.

The basic facts remain that University Education is highly subsidized and we all know it.. Even with all these complaints of neglect and all, the value of those hostel accommodation is way way more than your accommodation fees + Development levy or whatever. At least, you know how much illegal sale of bedspace in your school costs and I'm sure it goes for around 30k or more. Therein lies the selfishness of students.

You all believe hostel space is valued more than what you are paying for but you'd rather pocket that cash in shady deals than pay that same amount to the school management.

I'm not holding brief for the Management.. They are as corrupt as they get. But my grouse is the students expecting the management build heaven on earth for you when you pay close to nothing and the government subventions are less than a 10th of what the University actually needs.

There are very simple approaches, students/SUG can take to make things easier for students and management alike. Like basic sanitation. What will it cost students in that hostel in the pix you posted to clean up that mess and enact a rule preventing such? Nothing... But you'd rather leave it there and blame the management.

I remember during my time in Uniport, every member of my hostel wing contributed 500 and we fixed our toilet and the plumbings, and shared the toilets and bathrooms according to rooms. Each room maintains and cleans theirs. And we were all better for it.

The Earlier your SUG realise that the management isn't an enemy but an important stakeholder they must work with to move that campus foward, the better for all of you.
