Though some state criminal codes prescribe jail terms for armed robbery cases, most of the times, the Artoney Generals and the Directors of Public Prosecutions of such states still prefer that the Robbery and Fire Arms Laws of the Federation, 2004 is used while charging the suspects/accused, though the judge/court can still use their discretion to reduce the sentence to jail terms only, however that's subject to the decision of the Court of Appeal and in most Cases Supreme Court judges.

ain't a lawyer like you,can't stuff me head full with some useless cases,so you telling me all the robbers caught either via a shoot out with the police,or raided and were in possession of fire arms gets a death sentence? hell to the no!! you have said it already,some states criminal codes,not the whole country's, so if the man was tried in another state he might get a lesser verdict? forgive me but this stuffs antagonizes each other,the silly laws the country runs,it should be in for a penny in for a pound,no stories.

bless you,this was all I was asking about,yea people don't get executed like in the 80's the judge just passes his damn judgement and the culprit rots away in the cell for years,some ends up getting some state pardon while most dies in the cell,after spending years waiting for their execution,why not give them a jail term instead of a death sentence that won't materialize,the other day a judge in Ogun state jailed a woman for donkey years,have forgotten the exact number of years cuz it wasn't a life sentence,the judge himself can never outlive the span,so what's the essence of such stupid laws and verdicts?still waiting for the day a corrupt government official will be given a dose of what the law actually says,until then,this country is just a huge joke.

If an armed-robber is convicted and the successive governors showed lienency by not signing his execution, such a robber should just make up his mind he is serving a life sentence.

lols,that ain't no leniency,its a life time of hopes and damnation, they should get it over with and put them outa their miseries.

that discretion is the bone of contention here,the foolish judge probly never heard of that word,I mean its absurd,relating it to the present state the country is with its corrupt leaders.

This same judge should be hired to handle the case of Dansuki, Diezani and the rest, to test his competence whether he's sane or not

The judge himself has stolen more than that amount, if he can sentence a man to death by hanging with such an amount without remorse, he'l die likewise. Ise eeeee.

Armed robbery is premeditated. Murder might just come from sudden provocation or even sometimes unintended. Armed robbery is even more serious. Anyone who left his home with a gun to rob is ready to kill when provoked.

Again the law has always been clear armed-robbery. So why do people take such risk?

When death penalty is for anything armed-robbery I share no sympathy as such. Whoever carried a gun to face his fellow citizen/human being has already chosen death for himself already.

I would be more sympathetic to a guy who stole (without arms) 100k and got two years in jail than one who used arms to rob 100 naira and get a death sentence.

Most countries in the world that are civilized don't execute armed robbers. Infact, most European countries have stop executions for life imprisonment. America do execute armed robbers that killed during the act of robbery. I live in a State in US that has abolished execution. Not justifying what the guy did, the sentence is too harsh. The politicians and their proxies that have turn Nigeria to a living hell hole are worse than the guy. Those are the ones your anger should be directed at. A country with an average citizen earning less than $2 and their worthless thieflicians and their cronies are living large on the expense of their follow follow lapdogs . No wonder people refer to Nigeria as a jungle with jungle justice.

Maybe that happens in Nigeria but in Western Countries, it's Life without possibility of Parole. I just wish people get as angry with the Worthless Leaders Nigeria had and still having for pauperising a well blessed country.
