would have gone for a low profile Tyre, but our roads say otherwise, so normal profile no bad......
As for aesthetics, something that would make the car look very stable and have a nice stance.......probably a wider tyre......205/65s or 215s/65s, although some people might not like this as it would take some look of classic off the car......
I don't know the dimensions of your wheel arch but from what i could gather online, i think 185R15 is about the optimal size you should go for.
For more aesthetics, i think you should get decent rims or good wheel covers.
Good job so far sir.

Brethren, lemme hit y'all with what I've done with them tyres so far.
It was observed that the 205/65/R15 was a good fit. .... no rubbing

Re: Work In Progress (vw Beetle) by Chibzee2(op): 1:15am On Dec 06, 2015
Wasn't satisfied with any of the rims I came across as they were either looking too common or too gangster huh, so I went ahead to get the new tyres fitted into the old default rims for the time being

Re: Work In Progress (vw Beetle) by Chibzee2(op): 1:19am On Dec 06, 2015
Selected the best if the old tyres to be used as the spare tyre

Took it for a spin afterwards and observed that the edges of the tyres had little or no work to do cool

Looking the picture showing the contact patch on that tyre, I would say your tyres are over-inflated.
Re: Work In Progress (vw Beetle) by Nobody: 7:19am On Dec 06, 2015
Nice. But as mentioned above, your tyres seem overinflated, that's why the edges have "little or no work to do".

Get good wheel covers na. cheesy
Re: Work In Progress (vw Beetle) by Nobody: 7:36pm On Dec 06, 2015
Pls dn't get wheel covers, buy decent rims
Re: Work In Progress (vw Beetle) by Chibzee2(op): 10:08pm On Dec 06, 2015
About the tyres, thought they were overinflated too at first. Got it down to 40 psi from 45, no difference.
Should I take it down to 35? Cause the ride is quite comfortable

The correct inflation pressure for your car is 32psi.

What about Nigerian roads? I thought it should be 35psi. Just asking.

Chibzee2. I envy your beetle. Wish I can ride in it.

It should remain at 32psi. "Nigerian roads" do NOT determine psi. Weight, suspension and engine output combined determine the set psi.

I have to register a disapproval of those tires on those rims. The only saving grace is that this car won't be able to reach speeds of concern.

Yea, I understand and agree.......was something I knew I had to sacrifice... speed and fuel consumption. Speed wasn't much initially though and I didn't expect to be fast on the basic engine so I just went through with it pending IF I eventually turbo charge the engine or swap with a subaru boxer engine.
Secondly since the fuel consumption was great, reducing it a bit still makes the car more efficient than most so again I just went through with.

. . . trust me, this beetle isn't powered by stock engine. No pun intended but the stock engine won't even push those rims an inch

Not sure what the intention that you have for your car but if it were me I would leave the original engine alone. There's some sick pride to be had when you can boast that your car has it's original power plant. You can rebuild the engine and upgrade the capacity.

smileyThose wheels look lik a 94-98 s500/600wheel

I feel you man, I'll try to keep everything as stock as possible although I've already altered some things, but I'll try.
