Truckpusher:It only Nigerians that ignorantly think war when self-determination is mentioned. You once claimed to be educated but lack every symptom of learned person. Europeans have seen countries divide into two without a shot fired in anger. Is this candor elusive to Africans? Why must anybody think war because certain group of people simply want to depart from the imperialistic creation such as Nigeria? Again, clarity is the hallmark of well educated individuals. Could you please elaborated on the bolded so that Biafrans can know who are "us" in the above post? |

Truckpusher:Eastern region became a separate entity when the military governor of the region did not recognize the position of the coupists who killed the head of state. Gowon could not venture into eastern region or have any authority over eastern region. If Gowon had such authorities, there should be no civil war. Gowon could simply call for Ojukwu's arrest. If eastern region was not a separate entity at the period in discussion, why did the federal government of Nigeria led by Gowon attend the Aburi peace conference? |

Duru1:No, Gowon could not simply call for Ojukwu's arrest. the eastern government had to be recognized as a legal separate country by the Nigerian authorities, but it wasn't, |

ketchupBoy:This is typical issue with Nigerians when they try to reap where they did not sow. If you do not fight for the alleged referendum, what else support is needed from the so-called SS aftermath? Unfortunately, most Nigerians are still locked in 1967 but today is not yesteryears. |

ketchupBoy:Ekwueme was responsible for emergence of South-South Region during the 1994/95 constitutional conference Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar at a function in 2012 wished he had supported the Ekwueme proposal on the restructuring of the country during the 1994/95 constitutional conference. Atiku who now wants the country structured in such a way that it would strengthen the various geopolitical zones admitted that the present structure is impeding the country’s progress. He said “I want to recall that during the 1994-95 Constitutional Conference, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, the Second Republic vice president of this federation, introduced and canvassed for the concept of geopolitical zones. “I was among those who opposed it because I thought that Ekwueme, coming from the defunct Republic of Biafra, wanted to break up the country again. “Now, I realise that I should have supported him because our current federal structure is clearly not working. Dr. Ekwueme obviously saw what some of us, with our civil war mindset, could not see at the time. There is indeed too much concentration of power and resources at the centre. “And it is stifling our march to true greatness as a nation http://sunnewsonline.com/new/new-twist-in-clamour-for-polity-restructuring/ Chuba Okadigbo as senate President mobilized Umar N'Abba the Speaker of HOR to overturn President Obasanjo's veto on establishment of NNDC. ketchupBoy:As I said before Chuba Okadigbo as Senate President mobilized Umar N'Abba the Speaker of HOR to overturn President Obasanjo's veto on establishment of NNDC. Without the doggedness of Sen. Chuba Okadigbo the then Senate President standing up against President Obasanjo, there would have been no NNDC and probably no Niger Delta Ministry Southeasterners fight while South-south benefits. The agitation of Biafra may bring back the call for implementation of 2014 confab back to the table and South-south will reap from blood of IPOB agitators. |

Obiagu1:I am sure you are a non oil producing attache by force "Nigerdeltan of Igbo" extraction, no true Nigerdeltan would make these statements. The reasons Nigerdelta people are poor is not because we are not getting enough money (derivation + federal allocations) from the federal Government, it is because the money is mis-appropriated and looted by the political elite. The Nigerdelta recieves more money than most countries in black africa. The total allocation to the Nigerdelta region is more than the budget of Mali, Benin republic, Gabon, Liberia. In 2013 the total federal; allocations to 4 Nigerdelta states is almost as much as Ghana's 2015 budget. Akwa Ibom - (N260 billion or $1.7 billion) Rivers - (N230 billion or $1.5 billion) Delta - (N209 billion or $1.3 billion) Bayelsa - (N173 billion or $1.1 billion) Total Allocations for 2013 is (871billion or $5.6 billion). This is not taking into account internally generated revenue, allocations to NDDC, Nigerdelta ministry and amnesty program. Meanwhile, the total budget for Ghana's 2015 budget is 29.7 billion Ghanian Cedis which is the equivalent of 7.81 billion dollars. Definitions:First what is your definition of Resource control? Is it taking 100% of oil proceeds, then you are in Utopia. No mineral resource community in the world control 100% of their resources. We currently have 13% of proceeds from our resources( if we add General federal allocations, Nigerdelta ministry and NDDC, it would be closer to 20%), which is not too bad, but 25 - 30% would be excellent. Ignorance is when you don't know that you are jumping head first into a pit full of shit in 50 years time when your only bargaining power is exhausted and you have nothing to show for it.As i said the reason we are having little to show for our rescources is because of Greedy politicians, like Ibori, Uduaghan, Odili, Amaechi, Alamiesiegha, and others who loot the allocations ment to develop the Nigerdelta. Helplessness is when you are used and dumped and you have nothing to fall on to and no one cares if you still exist.Nobody has used and dumped the Nigerdelta. We are more politically revelant than the south east, more projects are sited in the Nigerdelta than the south east, we have more and better political offices than the south east. Then the Gas resources of the south south has not even been touched. Gas is the future of energy, and we are fully poised to continue to use that as a bargaining chip. Tell tell me how these definition of stupidity and helplessnes does not apply to the south east. |

Truckpusher:Actually...it does not have to revert back to the old tripod of Hausa,Igbo and Yoruba. You will agree with me that political consciousness and awareness has grown across all ethnic groups in Nigeria. Almost all minorities have more educated political players than what was obtained back then. That means the era of state creation by fiat is gone, also the lumping of incompatible groups with each other. Let every group mix and match themselves as needed...ofcourse within reasonable limits...so it doesnt end up being a joke. I say, the number of regions could be increased within reasonable limits. The USA is a living testimony to what individual states can accomplish with relative autonomy from the center. Those who do not want to identify with say the Igbos can join whomever they feel comfy with. The Tivs and Beroms can finally get the Hausas or Fulanis out of their land if they feel like. Thing is no one group should manage the destiny of another to their detriment. In my opinion, the FIRST THING that needs to be done away with is the Obasanjo's Land Use Act. The fact that Nigerians of all ethnicities have not risen up to ask for Obasanjo's head over that Act till now tells me how intelligent our so called educated men and women are. That Land Use Act favours a select few who are hell bent on milking the country dry from the centre. And ofcourse, I see the hand of the Westerners played out in that move. It was apparently a smart move to keep the petrodollars in the hands of the landlords of then Dodan Barracks and now Aso rock. Fact of the matter is there has been no incentive for state governments to raise revenue independently...and even more there has been NO COMPETITION to drive regional development policies. Imagine what revenue Osun state can generate RIGHT NOW by granting gold mining licenses to Chinese or Indian companies. Ponder for a while on what Awolowo and the brilliant minds he brought together would have wrought in the SW if the old region had existed till now. Or what the forward thinking Michael Okpara would have done across the Eastern region. Even the North would have grown into a veritable food basket for West Africa. The Niger Delta are not even aware they are the biggest losers in this resource extraction game. When the onshore wells finally dry up...their already destroyed ecosystem will be left for them to manage. The North still have the ace card, their lands, farms and waters are still in tact. Each region should have the autonomy to use resources on its land to generate revenue. The Executive should focus squarely on taxation, the civil and foreign service and armed forces. Any other abrogation of powers that should be inherent in regional or state governments should be prevented. I think Nigerians know enough now never to allow smooth talking ethnic baiters to talk them into running the current unproductive federal structure. Its a journey to no where. We need each other actually, the integration has already happened and the market force of the Nigerian population ensures we remain a regional powerhouse in Africa. Squandering that opportunity after all these years of pain and suffering will be foolish IMO. At the end of the day, superior minds and superior administration will make or mar the economic prosperity of any region. Voting in one inept government after another will not solve any of the problems facing us. Abi how you take see am? |

[b] socio-political group in the South-South, ekpeye Youth Congress (EYC), has dismissed claims in some quarters that the immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan empowered the people of the region. Former President Goodluck Jonathan The group made this known in a statement jointly signed by its president-general and acting secretary, emenike Uriah Musa and Anthony Onyemachi. The group dismissed the purported assertion made by Senator Shehu Sani, that the people of the Niger Delta were the major beneficiaries of Jonathan’s administration. READ ALSO: Ijaw Leader Praises Appointment Of Boroh According to Daily Trust the group said that the Ijaws were the main beneficiaries of the appointments and programmes carried out throughout the period Jonathan served as president. The group said: “The attention of the ekpeye Youth Congress (EYC) World-Wide has been drawn to the vituperations of one Mallam Shehu Sani, Senator Representing Kaduna North Senatorial District in the print media, to the effect that the people of Niger Delta are the only ones who benefited in political appointments and infrastructural development in the former President Goodluck Jonathan Administration, and that the North and South West did not benefit.” READ ALSO: Oil Thieves Nabbed By JTF In Niger Delta The group added that apart from the Ijaws, other major ethnic groups like the Urhobos, Ibibios, Anangs, Ogonis, Efiks, Ikwerres, Etches, Ekpeyes, Ndokwas,Ogojas, Ogbas as well as Binis, while others were left out. “The beneficiaries of the Presidential Amnesty Programme were 90% of Ijaw extraction,” the group said. The post Crack In Niger Delta Over Alleged Favouritism Of Ijaws By Jonathan appeared first on Nigeria News today & Breaking news | Read on NAIJ.COM. This is the type of Niger delta republic Ijaws want! All the Niger delta struggle the last decade ended up with Ijaws grabbing the entire dividend. - Ijaw vp - Ijaw president - Ijaw 90% beneficiaries of the Amnesty program, in a region with up to 50 other ethnic groups. So, you guys need to go back to the drawing board as we all are well aware that without having the Niger Delta behind you , you'll always remain at the mercy of the fulani man and his co conspirators and of course without the support of the Igbos the Niger delta ethnic groups will remain where they are right now too. No one should be playing the big brother here but respect for ethnic boundaries, equality and respect for other people's ways of addressing themselves will go a long way in forging that much desired unity we all needed like water. We are in the same boat. On the contrary, we( Ndiigbo) are not in the same boat with the non Igbo ethnicities in the SS. Igboland has the best of human development indices in Nigeria, we are on the average better off than all other Nigerian groups, we can afford to sit and wait out on Nigerian crude oil to dry up. We are not the ones at the risk of our environment being degraded with crude oil spills and a whole ecosystem damaged, As a major group in Nigeria, our share at the national level will always be preserved, and we can always team up with the Arewa-Oduanistanis to get more allocation from ND oil wealth. But we know we can do better outside Nigeria, we know we should be channelling our efforts at building a society we can all be proud of, and not waste them on mudslinging face offs with retrogressive bitter Nigerian groups. So, No. We are not in the same boat with Ijaws, but we somehow all want to arrive at the same destination, ie total control of all nature has blessed us with. And the talk of respect of ethnic boundaries coming from an Ijaw man like you is quite hypocritical and funny the same time, seeing that you had always remained quiet in Barcanista threads where he goes on claiming that Ndoki is Ijaw. It is a historical fact that Ndiigbo as people are not expansionists, so the respecting ethnic boundaries ish is DOA and completely out of point. |
