Edoblakky: I'm not Fashola's biggest fan but you have your facts wrong. Firstly the agreement for the road and the tolling was done by Tinubu. Secondly, the road is tolled in sections and only the completed sections are tolled. Fashola terminated the agreement for the tolling of section 2 in rather dubious pretenses but that's another matter, the point is section 2 is not being tolled. However as a user of that road, I can attest to the deterioration of the road since the tolling stopped. Even the street lights are not always on anymore, these things cost money. You drive on that road at night and without streetlights it's sometimes difficult to see the goats (sorry people) crossing from one side to another. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Edoblakky:Thank you very much, let me add a bit, I have seen people using the word SANE, look the western countries do not toll roads cos of maintance cost alone, the Toll roads always serve as a quicker route I have used teh M60 to manchester frm birmingham as an example, it cuts your journey by an hour plus but if you want to go the long way its up to you, in wales on the M4 there is a toll going into chepstow but free to come back, this toll was there cos of the bridge built by PP,(private partnership) also there is teh Datford crossing,if you check all these rds I mentioned they are all optional, its a choice if you want to use it or not.SO if a govt tools the only rd that leads into a city then that govt is selfish and wicked. What happened to the Road tax paid in Nigeria by motorist 1 Like 1 Share |

Re: Breaking: FG To Re-introduce Tolls – Fashola by Nobody: 10:09pm On Dec 08, 2015 |
erico2k2: Not a good example then because they are subsidizing fuel at a cost to their economy, not the sort of example we want to follow. It's ok if you can afford it but primarily government should be in the business of infrastructure not subsidizing consumption. 1 Like |

Do you know why this comment is not getting too many likes? It's because most people in Nigeria are blind followers of these blood sucking politicians. Just wait until they tell us that the toll gates will not be managed by FG but by party bosses that will pay 500 thousand Naira per year to FG for running a toll gate at Shagamu. That was exactly why OBJ resorted to indirect taxation by making everyone buying petrol pay for road tax even if you want to use the fuel for your generator. This government is trying hard to be the most foolish since 1999. lookandlaff: |

Smh, so Tinubu will go from making billions off tolls in Lagos and SW, to making tolls nationwide. These bastards don't even care about people. It's all about repaying each other in some for or fashion |

frisky2good: When Obasanjo put tax on Petrol, Crude and petrol were trading at a different level, correct me if I am wrong there was no subsidy so it was a net gain to the govt, Obasanjo raised tax on petrol to N1.50 a litre but today (at least as at sept) we are supposedly subsidizing petrol @ N22 a litre. You collect 1.50 and give back N22 and you tell me you are paying tax on fuel? 1 Like |

lookandlaff: Fashola did not terminate the agreement, the courts stopped tolling on that section of the road. Whether the agreement was done by Tinubu is irrelevant as Fashola saw it to fruition. It is a bad deal, so the blame heaps on both of them espesially on Fashola. Secondly, you dont toll an already existing road built with hard earned tax payers money. If FG wants tolls accross the country, let them build new and shorter routes as it is done in SANE countries, that way the people have alternative routes. What Fashola is suggesting is borderline criminality. Let us be truthful for once. With thevolume of cars plying that Lekki road on a daily basis, the total cost of building the entire road would have been recouped in 6-8 months, but for sheer dubity, the road was concessioned for decades. Now that is a rogue move by an inept and corrupt government and only sustained to keep the pockets of his paymaster lined up for generations. At some point, mother nature will intervene, it is inevitable. 2 Likes |

lookandlaff:well which one amongst the western world never started as socialist, all of them did. Then they migrated to capitalism . The fact is Nigeria needs to find its foot.I don't think the kind of leaders we have have that Energy to drive us forward, they are all interested in their pockets only.Look at a newly appointed Minister ,instead of concentrating on improving our federal rds, he wants to tax them, waht happened to the Direct labour initiatives.in teh UK, Rd tax are used to fix rd not toll tax.Question, what happened to all the Rd tax paid in Nigeria by motorist |
Re: Breaking: FG To Re-introduce Tolls – Fashola by Nobody: 10:31pm On Dec 08, 2015 |
Fawklicant: Look I am not justifying anything, I am simply addressing your initial point that the road wasn't completed before tolling began. In any event you are wrong Fashola bought out the contract of the concession company and decided not to toll the road, not because any court stopped him, why havent they stopped tolling on ikoyi link bridge? or toll gate 1? I don't buy into the Fashola hype so I am hessitant to defend him but fair is fair. On the issue that Tinubau awarde contract but fashola saw it to completion, Govt is a continuum, contracts are legally binding irrespective if who signed the agreement, you have to show good cause especially because you do not want to erode investor confidence particularly at a time when you are looking to expand PPP agreements to help build your infrastuctures. Infrastucture projects are long term in nature, An investor is not going to enter into an agreement with you to put down his money to build a road or airport for you if the next guy can just come and terminate the agreement!!! 2 Likes |

Re: Breaking: FG To Re-introduce Tolls – Fashola by Fawklicant: 10:46pm On Dec 08, 2015 |
lookandlaff: It was someone else's point, not mine. Fashola terminated it after he was dragged to court. Lagos state house of assembly then approved N7.5 billion to buy back the concession. To think that a concession of N7.5 billion barring maintenance costs would have taken them 30 years to recoup. 30 years!!! And anybody thinks this new situation here is gonna be any different? Draconian policies like this need to be met with stiff resistance as it is conceived on nothing but dubious intent. Modified... Only in Nigeria would you have a government toll a road that is still under construction. Praytell, how did they arrive at the duration of the concession without test run samples? That road sees nothing less than 20,000 vehicles daily and I say this with all sense of conservatism. I'm just being very economical with the figures. Do the math. 1 Like |

adeyemi2015: Reintroduce toll gates and revert the tax on fuel . Think that was the basic reason for the initial scrap. I don't see any need for it if its only aim to help generate futher income to government which means making people poorer and poorer. Especially those ones you cannot pay #18,000 minimum wage + high and irrational electricity bill. There is God ooooo |

Toll gates collected by government are simply adding extra layers of corruption to the already massive problem of government bureaucratic corruption. our roads need to be concession-ed out and tolled, NOT BY GOVERNMENT, but by companies charged directly with maintaining them. The role of government is simply to supervise that the companies responsible for the roads are repairing those roads as they said they will. Government will collect tolls, pay some into their account and use the rest for staff salaries. then when the roads breakdown, there are no funds to fix them because the collected toll has already been spent on frivolities. 1 Like |

Since you are not sure how did you come up with a stupid calculation? If you want to learn you have to be humble. Your arrogance only confirms your stu.pidity. Go back to your APC school of propaganda. I'm not educated but I know OBJ regime subsidised fuel price but you the educated one doesn't know. Guess what, whoever paid for your education wasted precious money that would have been more useful if spent on beer. lookandlaff: |
Re: Breaking: FG To Re-introduce Tolls – Fashola by Fawklicant: 10:59pm On Dec 08, 2015 |
lookandlaff: I know you are negotiating a different point, but what I'm saying is this. This proposal has all the trappings of the lekki scenario. This is even worse, as they want to toll already built roads. Probably gonna concesion the maintenance to someone who'd do a wish-washy job of resurfacing the roads and then mount their tolls. Please what are they doing with our taxes? This is akin to asking us to pay electricity tax while they build the dam that would supply the electricity someday. |
