The World Bank has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to act now if he is seriously considering the removal of fuel subsidy. The World Bank’s Lead Economist, John Litwack, said Tuesday the best time to take such decision is now. While the Buhari administration has hinted at its intention to remove fuel subsidy, the debate is still on in the country with many Nigerians, including the organised labour, rejecting the plan. The issue was discussed Monday at the Executive Council of the Federation meeting. The Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udoma, while unveiling the Medium Term Expenditure Framework and the government’s N6 trillion budget proposal for 2016, said the government was seriously weighing the options between removing or retaining fuel subsidy next year. The government’s body language appears to favour the former, rather than the latter. see more................ http://www.premiumtimesng.com/business/194818-fuel-subsidy-removal-now-is-best-time-to-act-world-bank-tells-buhari.html |

He will not try it except Buhari wants Nigerians to stone him. I know someone that said he will never forgive Jonathan for that increase in fuel price he carried out. |

Let subsidy go. The reason Nigerians protested against GEJ's removal was becos it was laced with corruption and the leakages were still there. Don't forget that corruption runs in GEJ's vein and there's nothing he would have done that won't have corruption in it. |

If the old refiniries are being repaired and almost completed. And Niger Delta people are being allows to refine their oil then the subsidy should go. Once Nigeria refines good enough amount to meet its daily fuel usage there is no need to subsidize fornimported fuel. |

If the subsidy is removed now, we won't be buying fuel for more than N100(thats if it will be up to that). We are already buying it for more than that amount because some people hide under the subsidy scam and sabotage the govt. If it is removed I don't think there will be any reason for scarcity cos what you buy is what you sell. |

Blackfire:Let me help you from Buhari facebook page.. Out of desperation, GEJ's government has increased subsidy payments and reduced fuel prices to N87 per liter. Many people think it is a good decision. But it is not. |

koboko69:do you ever think about what you dish out on public platforms? Why expose your situation in public like that? Do you even understand the meaning of the word subsidy? Do you even know what fuel subsidy is all about? Do you understand the history of subsidy in Nigeria? Did you even hear of the subsidy scam revelation during the last administration and how those revelations of rots in the system prompted the move of the previous administration to take subsidy out but for your kinds who give out the kind of info to fellow gullibles like you the same subsidy scammers fooled Nigerians with out of context explanation and convinced the whole nation to protest to protect their source of livelihood and to spice the protest and ensure gullible remain on the protest ground all day and all night musicians were brought to entertain all and the people bought it all not knowing they were protecting those stealing their money all in the deceit that subsidy would make life easy.. Ok now world oil price is below $40 per barrel, why is the government of the day still not going out to remove subsidy since it won't put a *supposed* burden on the ones who currently buy with a rush and fight on a long queue fuel for #140 a litter that they say would make people suffer then its even sold above that in some places, how come Nigerians are not seen as suffering even when countries that don't even produce oil enjoy way cheaper fuel prices at pump price because of the world oil price drop, but not Nigeria my beloved country who produces this oil in large quantity but still won't take opportunity of the moment to stop scammers who import the fuel we produce because they make a living out of it and why can't the government make it easy for any Nigerian interested with a know how to go into refinery operations in Nigeria to ease the scam loopholes. Why can't we even make refineries work in this country sef? Who is the government scared of? Or if we refined oil ourselves won't that ease this disturbing issues of subsidy? |

NigLasPresident:Oboi...all this long stories? Question remains....u remove subsidy. ... Who pays for the claims? The masses.... The masses keep paying for the fraud perpetuated by the friends of the government and the government. The government and her allies keep eating their cake and having it...while innocent masses like you keep paying for their loots. Look at the thread thrail....I am in support of removing subsidy now cos we have a more serious and transparent government. My posts is/was a direcr referral to the previous government |
| Re: Fuel Subsidy Removal: Now Is Best Time To Act, World Bank Tells Buhari by omohayek: 11:12pm On Dec 08, 2015 |
koboko69:The masses are already paying massively for the subsidies - by having to wait hours and even days to get any fuel at all, by having to go without better roads, schools, policing and healthcare due to the fuel subsidy's burden on the FG's purse, and by having to dish out yet more money to police borders and waterways that are infested with crooks who make money stealing and selling abroad artificially cheap fuel. Besides, the biggest beneficiaries of the little fuel that is available are the well-connected middle and upper classes living in cities like Lagos and Abuja, who have bigger cars and generators than the masses you claim to care about. |
