It's not a big deal o. They will get a new job somewhere else. To get first class from Oba Awon University OAU, no be beans. No employer go dull himself o. Seeing a first class OAU graduate make u jump on am sharp sharp. Don't loose that opportunity in your company o

for someone to deny himself of pleasure in sch and study very hard to the extent of having first class. It is so obvious that such a person would be able to perform any duty that comes their way with all concentration

this is actually a good developement.... also I urge our VCs to ensure newly employed lecturers who come in as graduate assistants should undergo a compulsory one year course in education instead of them just enrolling for subsidized masters degree because e most first class G.A while obviously brilliant actually are not good TEACHERS and fail to pass on knowledge , their approach to lecturing is haphazard as they believe everyone sabi book like them . lol

also if you trying to attain 1st class just so u can get a GOOD /JUICY. job then it's sad because elsewhere first class grads become problem solvers /innovators / trail blazers .

P.S. by good development I mean first class grads will now be have no choice but to put their first class brains to real test of APPLYNG their knowledge to real world situations & not entering the academia and peddling recycled texts and theories to students
after all OAU didn't. say no more employment but no AUTO-emp so if there is a need the required num will be absorbed .

but this one fit create new degree class o FIRST CLASS (upper division)

This is unfair, these first class students actually put in their best to attained that level and they need to be motivated for their effort....encouragement is much needed.... Naija my beloved country shaaaaa

OAU stops automatic employment for First Class graduates

The Vice Chancellor, Obafemi Awowolo University, Ile Ife, Prof. Bamitale Omole, yesterday said the
university would no longer offer automatic employment to graduates who make First Class
degree. Omole was addressing journalists in Ile Ife at a news conference to mark the 41st convocation ceremony of the institution.
He said graduates who make First Class should forget about automatic employment as there is
no more vacancy as a result of the current economic situation in the country. He noted that the idea of giving automatic employment to First Class graduates by the university was designed in the 1980s to retain them because they were not always willing to remain in the academics.
"The truth is that our First Class graduates should forget about automatic employment considering
the dwindling resources and given the large number of students who obtain first class grade now. It is no longer possible for us to offer them
automatic employment," he said.

It wasn't even automatic before. I was almost a victim of non-implementation of that policy some years back but at the end Na-God-Win. My colleague from same department and same school (OAU) that had same result is still jobless.
