Oando expanded too fast and acquired Conoco at the wrong time and thought they where getting a good deal which clearly back fired. The authors of this deal are the ones who should be on the chopping block not just the workers. Wale Tinubu should be held responsible for this colossal loss and needs to step down and let others salvage whatever is left.

Now it sells at $40 a barrel and we are paying the price for poor decisions made in the past.
I would have loved it if we could take politics out of this equation since this has to do with economics, but it would be wrong for me to be an aplogist for any politician.

oil is selling for circa $40 per barrel in the market, and some companies can hardly break even with that price. Over 40,000 oil jobs has been lost in Canada alone cos of the low oil price. Oando staff should know its a boom and bust industry, and jobs are not secure.

Shareholders have not earned a kobo in 3 years, as a matter of fact the value of their investment in Oando had been seriously eroded, the company is owes banks and other creditors billions of dollars, the company made a loss after tax of about N200 billion in 2014 and there is a high probability that Oando will make losses in 2015 and 2016. The company needs more funds from investors and financiers, I doubt if anybody is ready to invest in or fund Oando's operations at its current state. The best thing is for management to reduce costs and other expenses.

I would rather getting a paid employment is just to raise a little capital to start up something, not slaving for another till you retire. That way, Nigeria can grow.

There are extant laws, that govern retrenchment et. al in Nigeria's business space.
As such, "telling an employer how his company must be run" doesn't figure here.

My take from here is to ensure to read thoroughly and infact have a copy of the signed offer and acceptance letters before resuming at any job.

Such that when the employer tries to play foul like Oando's currently doing, you'll at least have something to fight with.
