Xperia z has a good display but very poor viewing angles. However the problem was fixed in xperia z2, and became even better with xperia z3. Sony xperia z5 is one of the best smartphones available on terms of display, especially Sony xperia z5 premium. That phone has qhd screen with 806 ppi. That is way way more ppi than even a galaxy s6 with a wooping 23mp camera.

The problem they had hough is their design has been the same since xperia z. For me I'm not feeling that rectangular design and u can't even differentiate between someone holding a Sony xperia z and Sony xperia z5. Also they seem to release 2 xperia phones in a year. Xperia z2 was released 6 months after xperia z, likewise z3. And those rectangular bricks are very expensive. U can imagine Sony xperia z3, 2014 flagship sold for N107,000.
I think we think alike...

I was just about to say its because of

1. Ridiculous design (both external and its UI)
2. Ridiculous Price...

And that's it.

I use an xperia sp and it's cool Cuz it does all I want...thinking of getting xiaomi or meizu mx4 ubuntu edition.....

l have four good phones including an iphone 5S and Samsung S6 but my "old" Sony Xperia MT15i l bought some years back still beats them all!

its old and weather-beaten now but it still produces the best pictures and video l have ever seen!
Almost life-like.


its not just a marketing problem, they also need to produce phones with durable, metal-like casing..... and then up the price for foolish consumers who are 'price motivated'.


May them pay me for consultancy if they try my suggestion and things turn around o! undecided undecided shocked

Wow! They said whenever the student is ready, the teacher appears. This thread is coming at the right time because I am set to buy a used Xperia Z1 this wknd and buy the brand new z5 as soon as I can afford it.

And they have refused to change and adapt to how things are- If they are not careful , they may meet their demise like Noka


I stopped using their phones at the P900 and K750i series - They just refused to move with the world, even though they almost always pioneer a lot of things, they just do not have that OS and branding needed to push their products

I thought l was the only one that noticed that Sony Cameras are the b.omb, when it comes to High Definition!

Thats why l could not throw away one l have been using for over three years now......and thieves refuse to steal it as well! angry angry

Okay, l will look for someone who has that 'cos l wont be buying it as l have an S6 already.

But have you tried a Sony Z5 Camera before? If not just ask somebody to take your picture/video, using it and come back to tell us how you felt. undecided undecided

Buy a Rubber/Silicone casing with face cover ..... but that does not mean you should start sitting on it o! shocked shocked

Hmmm pls can't I buy a mere screen protector or something? I hate to use a casing for my phone. I love it beautifully naked.

brother there is nothin as excess goodwill workin for iphone, i use to think that iphone was overhyped untill i came accross iphone 6.they give the heightest quality you can ever think of ,that is why they dnt produce small and medium range phones.

Same here.. I've had to change it 4 times. Just last week I guess someone stepped on it. With Just a little crack the phone is useless despite its crazy spec and nice display. I've been a great supporter for Sony but due to the screen issue, i can't even say a word near my Samsung and iPhone friend. Its so heartbreaking. This time I'm not repairing it. I've dumped it to get a iPhone 5s. I'll repair when i have excess money knowing fully well it might not last 3 months

Ha ha, I replaced my screen twice. The second time being just a little crack and screen became unresponsive. First time it costs over 18k to get original screen. Second time it cost 10k to get a china screen. I've since dumped the phone . this is why I respect Samsung. Team galaxy s6.

I also have an Xperia z, it's pretty nice and was very affordable. I ordered mine from Amazon as it was too expensive in Nigeria.

Pros: camera, keyboard, waterproof, sexy color (purple), and mega slim. It's one of the slimmest smartphones.
Cons: price in Nigeria, lack of accessories in Nigeria, I was unable to get any accessories for this phone except the charger in Nigeria. Had to resort to Amazon again.

To me the main reason Sony phones don't thrive in Nigeria is due to lack of awareness. I only got to know about the phone because I am a gadget geek. They don't advertise and stuff.
What people don't know they cannot buy.
The latest Sony phone Xperia Z5 (my dream phone) 23mp camera, waterproof, Octa core processor... I am loving it.

I used a Live with Walkman for 3 years and upgraded to a Z3 Compact.

Their major problem is MARKETING.

and for those talking about design, I cannot differentiate a galaxy grand from S4 or S3. Same goes for those IPhones... angry

They don't have huge market in Africa, Sony is a top brand in Europe and some Asian countries. Honestly they don't give a fucck about Nigeria market.

At least s4 is different from s5, and s5 doesn't look like s6. Iphne 4 looks different from iPhone 3g and 3gs. IPhone 5 looks different from iPhone 4 and iPhone 6. Xperia z has been the same since z up to z5.

Ignorance, carriers and bad marketing strategies.

Sony is not selling as much in the US because they refuse to market there. The US phone market is dominated by carriers who dictate to phone companies and this may be why only one carrier has just a few models.

Conversely, Sony is quite popular in Europe, especially here in the UK. Although Samsung is more popular.

I will never buy scrapy Samsung anyway. And HTCs are kinda ugly.

The problem with Sony phones



1) design: they maintain the same design for their phones of 3/4 years ago. It got boring



2) waterproof/resistant issue: Sony have shot themselves in the foot by making waterproof their major selling point when they have other strong points like camera. Some customers phones have died in water while some complain of having their phones fixed by Sony due to water damage.


3) no innovation: yes, they made the 1st 4k phone but how about day to day things that will wow consumers? They have recently joined the fingerprint train but still lacking in some innovative areas



4) aggressive marketing: Samsung from the off were ready to rough up apple and match them fire for fire. Where apple invested a billion dollars to advert Samsung invested 1.5 billion And were always ready to kick up a storm. Sony were too nice to apple in my opinion


5) they reached a plateau: like in the 1st point they just didn't improve on what they are good at. Their good phones came out like 2 years ahead of innovation(camera and waterproofing ). I think they played their cards too early leaving them without a joker in the smartphone marathon
