it is statements like this that made us to be where we are today
I disagree, we need to tell ourselves the truth. The country is broke, crude is less than 40 dollars per barrel, we have unsold crude floating in the ocean. We paid almost 1 trillion naira for subsidy in 2015 alone, yet we still buy at 120 naira
Re: Nigeria Labour Congress Warns FG - Don’t Increase Price Of Fuel by timunstopable:
Pre Election Due to fall in crude oil price. There was no longer subsidy on PMS at 97 the price then.

Perfect time 2 remove subsidy as that was the actual price then

Bt since Elections was in some days time Gej Decided 2 remove 10naira as Greek Gift for the election bt keep feeding the oil cabal with subsidy

The truth is when we carried out the protest against subsidy at Ojota. The issues were simple we didnt trust the Govt then to use the money saved 4 susbidy judiciously, We need it ll be looted .We were vindicated as we know now that Sure P was a scam

Also the proposed increase from was over 60%.
I cant forget Ngozi Okonjo Iweala promising heaven and earth she has contacted the Manufacturers of the Refineries and they were going 2 start work october.Lies nothing happened

I wont also forget How NLC sold out and lost the trust of Nigerians.I ve said I ll never respond 2 any protests or strike by NLC they are just opportunists looking for how 2 get kick backs from Govt

10naira increase on PMS to avoid govt paying almost 1 trillion yearly 2 Oil cabal to me is a worthy sacrifice

I stand with FG on this.Becos am sure Money saved ll be judiciously used by Buhari Govt and No goat ll be allowed 2 eat out yam

Ofcos I know the Jonathaians and fee dee fee that didnt join ys 4 occupy Nigeria ll join d losers NlC 4 d protest and they are proven 2 b bad losers refusing 2 accept their Clueless Hero was rejected

That statement is the most sincere statement. Subsidy can only make the country to be going backward. Subsidy does not make sense from some points of view. In fact, in the case of Nigeria, it is making the rich to get richer why the poor getin poorer. Even if subsidy is required, it should nt be on petroleum product....

Re: Nigeria Labour Congress Warns FG - Don’t Increase Price Of Fuel by Wallade(m): 10:03am On Dec 17, 2015
Hmmmm.

Subsidy must be removed.

Government must completely deregulate the downstream petroleum products market and allow forces of demand and supply to determine prices.

However, government must maintain a ceiling price based on realistic and reasonable cost elements and profit margin. This will be sustained until Nigeria can produce minimum of 80% petroleum products required to meet local demand effectively.

Encourage the establishment of, at least, 6 standard, sophisticated and high capacity petroleum products refinery in the 6 geopolitical zones of Nigeria. These can be done with government encouraging the private sector investment in the refinery business, favorable govt policies and legislation to encourage such investments.

In fact, now that crude oil is less than $40 per barrel; this is the best time to remove subsidy.

The increase to 97 naira can be attributed to the forex exchange rate. The naira has been devalued largely in recent times.

OKKO:
Though I don't have faith in the present NLC leadership...I also urge them to put all the protests together, desert the work places and hit the streets...

They include: subsidy removal, increase electricity tariff, increase VAT and other taxes, toll on federal roads, incessant human right abuses by security outfits and even fuel scarcity.

Who ever can not govern, let him resign and go home...power belongs to the masses.
I don't support it too, but we have to be realistic in our approach. When PM reached $120 per barrel with high patronage, our economy were still in big mess according Iweala. Read her prediction in the face of overwhelming borrowings - http://pointblanknews.com/pbn/news/things-will-be-tough-till-the-end-of-2015-okonjo-iweala-advises-nigerians/ The worst part of it was that there was no diversification of economy during this period. Instead, it was all about looting and sharing.

It was even worse to the extent that FG needs to borrow money to pay FG workers - http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2015/05/06/fg-borrows-n473bn-to-pay-salaries-okonjo-iweala/

Now that PMB is in power, how can Nigeria sustain in a mono-cultural economy with PM price of $37 per barrel characterized with low patronage, servicing of debt, increase in recurrent expenditure, high rate of unemployment etc.

The problem I have with it is the application of fund, not the removal of subsidy.

the world know the price of crude has dropped, that's why so many countries have reduced their pump price by 50%. Instead of our leaders to reduce it,they're planning to increase it the more. N.I.G.E.R.I.A!!! What a country.
Re: Nigeria Labour Congress Warns FG - Don’t Increase Price Of Fuel by Chukazu: 10:24am On Dec 17, 2015
but why all this foot-draging?
when was the last time Any of bought fuel at the official price?
and subsidy is only enjoyed in the south west, Lago in particular, anything outside that is usually above 120 per litter. so why not remove the dam subsidy?

You still don't understand. those country can refine their product locally and use domestically while Nigeria cannot.

It bring us to exporting the crude for refining and buying it back.
The shipping cost and everything inclusive.

Now the fg wants markets to import directly without supporting them so that they can concentrate on building refineries. Though the govt agencies can import no doubt, but there would be competition and prices will differ.

Why didn't you say this during Jonathan era?

1 trillion? I can't believe it...We were meant to believe by this government that subsidy is fraud and we expected the price of fuel to drop since crude is dropping further, an analogy this government made us believe.

El-rufai on AIT talked of building new refineries, why has this government not started anything on this? Build new refineries so we can produce our expected consumption and stop importation. Simple

Let them start the process of building the new refineries now...We should not fooled, the moment subsidy is removed they won't even worry about building the refineries because those importing are their relatives and allies.

Why do we have so many gullible youths in Nigeria? If we all want subsidy to be removed, then increment in fuel is a price we must pay. A temporary pain until we start refining a reasonable quantity of our produced crude. NLC should shut their trap and stop seeking ways to bring confusion to a land full of confusion. Our leaders are on the right path and don't need this distraction at all. I believe in a better Nigeria.

POINTS TO NOTE:

1, FG said GRADUAL REMOVAL OF THE SUBSIDY SCHEME. They did not give a time-line. So it could even take 3 years to do that and nobody can challenge them.

2, The cost of crude has fallen way below $50. So i think the cost of conversion/processing into petroleum products should drop directly or indirectly. Based on the points, i think the cost of PMS should even drop below 87naira..

3, I do not think that NLC is in love with subsidy. They too want it out. What i think their point is, is that the pump price is a pretty high cost considering the state of the economy now.

I second cheesy

The same scammers that said NO to subsidy less than 25months ago are now proposing it. Thank goodness NLC is not accepting it,

Mr gullible youths...Mention one thing in Nigeria that has ever been temporary that didn't later turn permanent?...It's been gullible to believe the removal is targeted at building new refineries because they never said they will build new refineries.

Social media talks is not what we want because he has denied all the last social media words said on his behalf. So it's simple let him let's start the process of building new refineries and trust me Nigerians will support the removal but not asking us to suffer with hope.

Tmunstopable and Wallade thumbs up for your analysis...what we need is just the conviction that the money will in turn be used judiciously not the way of the thievery that was Sure.P while the government equally rolls out some palliative some to cushion the immediate effect on the masses..these can be negotiated and immediately implemented to build trust..not forgetting with GMB,every penny might just count if he is still the same man I believe we all know.
