myproperty:Do you claim to be an Ekpe initiate? Yet you do not know that Nsibidi is not a language not to talk of being a sacred language? It is a written script and not a language. An advanced form of what the Yoruba call 'Aroko' (do re do). You don't speak it, you read it. The writer can be Chinese while the reader is Yoruba. It comes in handy when there are many language groups in an area or as a means of recording things. A form of it should be developed for global use. It has limitations of expression but the limitation can be removed by using alphabets alongside it. It is the best form of writing in my opinion. |

lawani:I never claimed to be an Ekpe initiate. What do you call a written script, what do you read? Well let me define what a language is. Language is the method of human communication, either spoken or written, consisting of the use of words in a structured and conventional way. The next thing you would say is that words are not used but symbol. what is a word. It is single distinct meaningful element of speech or writing, used with others (or sometimes alone). So whatever is used as a means of communication is a language, please know that. |

myproperty:That is a tricky definition but picture writing is a bit different from language. For example the differential sign is recognisable by all mathematicians as well as the plus, subtraction, division and etc signs but may not be pronounced thesame way by all mathematicians due to their different languages, so in a way it is a form of language but not a spoken language. It can be written in Chinese and read in English. |

lawani:whether it is written in symbols or with signs the fact remains that it is a form of language. it is a means of communication |
