National Assembly Set To Take Over Rivers Assembly by fkaz(m): 8:49am On Dec 25, 2015
There is an interesting twist in the outcome of the Rivers House of Assembly election Appeal judgements, which may compel the National Assembly to take over legislative functions and powers of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The Appeal Court sitting in Abuja had in its various judgements ordered re-run in 22 Assembly constituencies out of the 32-member House that make up the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The PDP has maintained nine seats while the APC is left with just a seat, leaving the Assembly with a total of 10 legitimate members including the Speaker.

The law requires only 11 out 32 member house to be able to form a quorum necessary for any legislative seating. But so far, only 10 members left in the House can not form a quorum and therefore by law will not continue with their legislative functions at least for now.

Below is a breakdown of Rivers State constituency seats won, lost and where there will be rerun:

1. Abua/Odual – PDP
2. Ahoada East I – RERUN
3. Ahoada East II – RERUN
4. Ahoada West – PDP
5. Akuku-Toru I – RERUN
6. Akuku-Toru II – RERUN
7. Andoni – RERUN
8. Asari-Toru I – RERUN
9. Asari-Toru II – RERUN
10. Bonny – RERUN
11. Degema – RERUN
12. Eleme – RERUN
13. Emohua – RERUN
14. Etche I – PDP
15. Etche II – RERUN
16. Gokana – RERUN
17. Ikwerre – RERUN
18. Khana I – PDP
19. Khana II – RERUN
20. Obio/Akpor I – RERUN
21. Obio/Akpor II – RERUN
22. Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni I – RERUN
23. Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni II – PDP
24. Ogu/Bolo – PDP
25. Okrika – PDP
26. Omuma – RERUN
27. Opobo/Nkoro – RERUN
28. Oyigbo – PDP
29. Port Harcourt I – APC
30. Port Harcourt II – RERUN
31. Port Harcourt III – PDP
32. Tai – RERUN
So far: PDP = 9
APC = 1
Rerun: = 22

The forgoing turn of events makes the political calculations and permutations of both the PDP and the APC hazy and difficult, especially as it remains unclear what will be the fate of Governor Nyesom Wike at the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, Rivers State does not have a representation at the Senate since the three Senators in the state have been sacked by the Court of Appeal, while only one seat is remaining at the House of Representatives.

This administration is a very unserious administration.....

Nothing seems to be moving in this country.....
The flavour of the last election has been dragged to this date with so much noise making and promises..

I will just hope that hence 2016, this administration will curtail the hardship Buhari promised us...

So much for a CHANGE!!!

The recess-loving national assembly that has not even fully discharged it's own legislative duty to the whole country, not to talk of now adding Rivers state to the mix. Truth is, the state assembly would remain comatose until the rerun elections are concluded.

That professor who was rivers state INEC commissioner during the last election should never be allowed to preside over any election again in Nigeria. The number of cancelled elections in Rivers must be some sort of record, yet the commissioner was insisting until the end that Rivers election was free and fair.

What has what you wrote up there got to do with the topic? Is Buhari the Inec that conducted the fraudulent eletion in Rivers state or what? When everybody was complaining about the Rivers state election in April, Jonathan, Wike and you PDP wailers refused to listen. Now that the election cannot stand any little legal scrutiny, you are here abusing Buhari. Change is here for real. Henceforth, nobody will enjoy any fraudulently obtained electoral mandate.

Some people can be so ignorant... No insult intended...... But you just don't understand what being the ruling party uphold...

APC as the ruling party has the power to nullify any election.... But they're using propaganda to nullify elections...

If other elected offices cannot stand legal scrutiny, Then, Buhari election should be nullify and or scrutinise as well.... Hypocrite!!!

What is this world turning into? Why can't people from this region take a stand and vote out cluelessness and failure and decide to vote for any other candidates from another party rather than a corrupt scam like the current caretaker governor Wike!!!

Was is it only 10 members that elected him as speaker or the full house of assemble? Constitution did not mention number of members you will have in the house before the speaker assume duty as acting governor in a situation like this.

What exactly is going on in this country? Is rivers state the most corrupt state in Nigeria? Just 10 constituencies' election is valid, out of 32. What sort of an unprecedented political debacle is this?
Anyway, Edo state 2016 gubernatorial elections loading...

Sometimes I ask myself why the complete silence from Gej and some strong pdp men. Is ibb so powerful that he can't be brought to his knees. Y will this evil , demonic and devilish man still be controilling this country? He formed the pdp and now the apc , must nigeria be a one party state? Has ibb not done enough damage to this country. We all know his role in june 1998 and july1998 . For heaven sake iBB leave nigeria alone, is not your fathers property. You've succeeded in using judas amechi in dividing the south south people. When will the south south people UPROOT that seed of discord from rivers state? Uproot that useless seed and there will be peace in the niger delta.. Is hight time the people of the south south come 2geda, enuf is enuf. We must respond back and protect our future. This present government cannot take us back to the dark ages, the judges of the supreme court have to be bold and stand their ground. They Can't continue to act cowardly, they are the last hope of the Common man. This is not a military government , it is a democratic government. We have to say no to dictartorship and anarchy. Buhari,IBB and apc MUST respect the wishes of nigerians. Enough is enough for IBB,obj, Buhari and danjuma. They should retire and hands off from the administartion of nigeria and give others a chance...my prayer and christmas wish is that before the end of this year, Let Almighty GOD make apostle suleiman prophecy 2015, prophecy no 37 come to pass.

You arent from Rivers.

True Riverians who are sincere and appreciate good performance and achievements stand behind solidly Amaechi and Dakuku.

We wish Amaechi the best as the minister of Transport. We trust him to perform excellently as he did in Rivere. You can go ahead and kill personalities in your state, i dont care.

u r the wisest person among all the contributors here. I v said it before and will still say, the constitution said 1/3 of members. if the court of appeal nullifies 23 seats it means the 1/3 will be calculated from the remaining members. they are assume not to be members for the time been. pls go and read the constitution very well as well as the case of Oyo state house of assembly v. Ladoja
