Grand prix Menu Entrée Restaurant But french is all English, just badly pronounced .... - Alexandra Dumas. (He was trying to learn English then so he probably said that in French though) |

Great write up, very educating! Do you also know that most of the origin of these words are not French but Latin? Yes most languages are derived from the ancient language of Latin. For example Souvenir comes from the Latin word subvenire which means occur to the mind. |

scholes0:I would have disbelieved that English has its roots in German language rather than freNch considering the fact that today it bears more similarities with French than it does with German. The accent and diction are totally off yet it's a west Germanic language |

enieme:It has a lot of vocabulary of French and/or Latin origin, but its basic structure, syntax and pronunciation are Germanic. (Note that being germanic is not the same as having roots in German language, it is just a name used to classify all the languages in that cluster) For example the way the English would pronounce those words of Latin origin (Including French words), is not the same way An Italian would pronounce them. Because even French has been hugely influenced by Germanic languages, the Franks who are the forebears of Modern people in North-Eastern France are actually a Germanic race- Their original germanic accents influenced the way they spoke their original bastardised latin, and that is why Even though French and Italian /Spanish are in the same language family, today French sounds completely different. ![]() |
