I've been getting conflicting answers online concerning this question so I decided to ask the people that was there for me all through.

If at the POE I was asked the length of my stay in US. What do I say?

Mind you, my program is 36months(3yrs) as stated in my I-20 and my VISA is valid for 2years.

Thanks

Hello, boss! Your answer to the VO should be 36 months.

Hello, boss! Did you try to write to the school or call the school? It will be wise to get in contact with the school's admission office to explain to them the dilemma you are in. They might advise you to defer or they might reconsider and send you an extension letter. You really need to get in contact with them as quick as possible so as to avoid having issues.
DARKLIGHT:
Ok, boss. It's just my signature. But I didn't know my former font size flouts any rules until now. I can still italicized, right?
Did you notice any difference between these ^^ two posts?

I don't think you'll be asked that question. It's not a question they usually ask at the POE. The officers assign you a length of stay equal to your duration of status ie for as long you're in F1 status. The duration on the I-94 of most F1 students is D/S meaning 'duration of status'. It's not a static or specific thing because they realize a student could move on to another program and continuing studying after finishing the initial one for which they got their visa for. If at all they ask you, which I strongly doubt, you can tell them for as long as you're in status.

You should not expect to spend any more than 2 to 3 minutes at the POE and you're off on your way to the carousel to grab your luggage. Welcome to the United States.

Oga Justwise, a lot of people derail the thread in many ways and neither have they been reprimanded or cautioned. I'm just introducing my style to bring a little bit of variety. As far as I don't derail the thread or become insulting, I think I haven't done anything wrong. In an essay filled with a particular form of sentence makes the essay boring. Style matters a lot in life. I think I will stick with my signature; I'm sorry if you don't like it.

Have you tried to call them, Boss? I might help you give them a call. It's really important you get across to them as soon as possible.

In my opinion, Seun allowed or included all the formatting tools in the message reply feature of this forum to allow users have diverse and unique writing styles. To the best of my knowledge, it is not against any rules on this forum to write in Italics, smaller fonts or bigger fonts. As moderators, we work to implement the rules as instituted by its owner, nothing more nothing less. Nobody should be reprimanded for writing in a different or unique style as he so chooses.

I really don't know what you are banging on about here, I did not accuse you of derailing, breaking any rule or insulting anybody here, I asked you politely to consider changing your font size or style but you have decided to make a big deal out of this.

The year of visa issue to you is not your length of study. You have to tell them wat is written on ur I-20

If you're coming on a student visa, you don't have to worry. no one will ask you that question. they stamp your passport at the POE and write D/S (meaning duration of status... as far as you remain in student status (and not fall out of status).. you're legal. even if you keep jumping from one degree to another and end up spending more years than expected, just make sure you keep your i-20 updated at all time to reflect your program completion date.

This is the rule here: 11. Don't create distracting posts with: ALL WORDS BOLD / huge font sizes / ALL CAPS / distracting imagesspaces, etc.

If you have anything personal with his italics, then stuff it up and allow him express himself the way he deem fit in as much as he is not flouting any rule.

Yea meritdee, like Kenny said your visa validity period is not the same as your status period or how long you can stay in the US. A visa is only a permit that permits you to travel to the issuing country and ask to be allowed or admitted into the country. Even with a visa, a POE officer could deny you entry into the US if you're deemed inadmissible for any reason. A visa is not how long you would be staying in the country. If given a visa of 2 years, it simply means that you have 2 years to travel and leave the US as you so wish multiple times without any issues. In Nigeria, 2-year visas are given to all candidates - undergraduate going for 4 years, MS going for 2 years, PhD going for 4 years or more etc. One can come in here to do their masters, enrol in school and is in status and on completion continue onto PhD for another 3 years. That student still remains in status so far as they are still in school even though their visa may have expired already while doing PhD and would need to renew their visa when they want to visit Nigeria and return back to the US because that's what your visa allows you to do. Whenever you become a citizen and have a US passport, then you can leave and re-enter as many times as you wish.

Some students enter the country but don't enrol in school and are out of status. However, their visas are still valid for the remainder of the 2 years given. However if they leave the US and choose to re-enter they may be denied re-entry because they failed to maintain status the initial time they entered. You now understand the difference between a visa and your status in the US?

As a moderator on this forum for the last 3 years I am quite conversant with the rules of this forum. Rule 11 specifically states:

11. Don't create distracting posts with: ALL WORDS BOLD / huge font sizes / ALL CAPS / distracting imagesspaces, etc.

Seun made it clear that he is against ALL WORDS being in BOLD. It doesn't mean subject headers cannot be made bold while the body is in regular fonts neither could stress words not be written in bold. He made it clear: ALL BOLD WORDS are not allowed.

Moreover, I don't see why you're arguing this with me or still dragging on this issue. As a moderator on this forum I am very conversant with the rules of this forum and I state it clearly that Darklight has not gone against any of the 22 rules of this forum as Seun has instituted it. Please let go of the argument and move forward. No one is above mistakes.

Yes you're eligible since you worked for some part of the tax year of 2015. The tax refunds being filed from now till April 15 is for the tax year of year 2015, this year that just passed and it applies to all those who worked all throughout or partially. You worked for 4 months in 2015 and are required to file your tax returns for last year. And yes you can file on your own if you know what to do. Last year, I filed mine myself.

How much you get back in refunds could depend on how much your total income (or AGI) was for last year and how much you paid in taxes. As a single person with no dependents and not much expenses made, realistically you may not receive in tax refunds more than you paid in taxes in total. Some students claim educational credits to get back more tax refunds. I can estimate not more than $500 to $1000 in tax refunds for you.
obob c moni...so after filing..how long does it take to get my cash..is up 2 a week??(my blood don de hot) angry grin
