As a moderator on this forum for the last 3 years I am quite conversant with the rules of this forum. Rule 11 specifically states:

11. Don't create distracting posts with: ALL WORDS BOLD / huge font sizes / ALL CAPS / distracting imagesspaces, etc.

Seun made it clear that he is against ALL WORDS being in BOLD. It doesn't mean subject headers cannot be made bold while the body is in regular fonts neither could stress words not be written in bold. He made it clear: ALL BOLD WORDS are not allowed.

Moreover, I don't see why you're arguing this with me or still dragging on this issue. As a moderator on this forum I am very conversant with the rules of this forum and I state it clearly that Darklight has not gone against any of the 22 rules of this forum as Seun has instituted it. Please let go of the argument and move forward. No one is above mistakes.

bigfrancis21? Can you point out where i accused Darklight of breaking any rule?

This is the rule here: 11. Don't create distracting posts with: ALL WORDS BOLD / huge font sizes / ALL CAPS / distracting imagesspaces, etc.

If you have anything personal with his italics, then stuff it up and allow him express himself the way he deem fit in as much as he is not flouting any rule.

This is what happens when people jump into issue with preconceived motive. I did not accuse him of breaking any rule, i did not ban or delete his post, i only made a politely request with words like: please and consider and thanked him but not surprisingly some of you have decided to read the wrong meanings into that harmless request .

I have a question. An F1 student married to a citizen decides to file tax with the wife without adjusting status, can the person still claim that Educational Tax Credit? Planning for next tax year. Is it advisable to file alone or file together? Is there anyway one can determine the amount per head as return?

Justwise, I never mentioned anywhere in my post that you did. I simply mentioned that he did not go against any of the rules of this forum. However, 'cautioning' him, however you choose to see it, against using Italics when it was never banned by the owner himself is, albeit, pushing the limits too far. You should not tell him to 'consider' not using Italics or a different font size when Seun allowed it to be used, and nobody else is complaining against it. I believe I'm entitled to my opinion which I have clearly expressed.

Here is his original post and for the umpteenth time, I see nothing wrong with his post.

DARKLIGHT:

Hello, boss! Did you try to write to the school or call the school? It will be wise to get in contact with the school's admission office to explain to them the dilemma you are in. They might advise you to defer or they might reconsider and send you an extension letter. You really need to get in contact with them as quick as possible so as to avoid having issues.

If you had addressed my initial post this way, I wouldn't have made any more comments. But the way you hid my initial post shows some sort of disregard and dictatorship. You are the moderator and I don't see anyone challenging that fact, but hiding my post actually disrespected my person. If I went about it the wrong way, I apologize.

As a married couple, it's always best to file taxes together as there are more benefits to it than filing individually while married. However, since the student has not yet adjusted status as at time of filing and has not been present for up to 5 years or more in the US, the student is still considered 'exempt' and may not qualify to claim taxes as a resident.

Some students do this and get away with it, however, IRS auditing is not a pleasant experience to have. And it not only ends there, the IRS will continue to keep an eye on your tax refunds afterwards to see if they'll catch you again. grin

Exactly. That's the thing. The main issue is not doing it but being found out. They'll keep an eye on you for a while. You could be randomly selected for tax auditing, which the IRS does constantly to make sure people are filing the right way.

It's a normal human characteristic to do, which they do here a lot. For example, you're a teacher and you find out one of your students who scores high cheated or copied from someone else. In their next exam, you'll pay more attention to marking their script because of the prior incident than you would spend on the other students's scripts.

Woke up this morning to see that my post was deleted last night.

Justwise please can you explain to me why my post was deleted.

To the best of my knowledge Jchi9876 was trying to create some drama in the thread and I cautioned him against insulting anyone.

I only ask him to model himself after bigfrancis21 and biikeys who give advice to students without throwing shades at anyone.

Yes you're eligible since you worked for some part of the tax year of 2015. The tax refunds being filed from now till April 15 is for the tax year of year 2015, this year that just passed and it applies to all those who worked all throughout or partially. You worked for 4 months in 2015 and are required to file your tax returns for last year. And yes you can file on your own if you know what to do. Last year, I filed mine myself.

How much you get back in refunds could depend on how much your total income (or AGI) was for last year and how much you paid in taxes. As a single person with no dependents and not much expenses made, realistically you may not receive in tax refunds more than you paid in taxes in total. Some students claim educational credits to get back more tax refunds. I can estimate not more than $500 to $1000 in tax refunds for you.

I think he can use his last paystub given to him toward the end of last year to calculate his projected tax refunds

All he has to do is to calculate the sum total of the Federal and State Taxes withheld from all his paycheck

The sum total of the Federal and State Taxes withheld from all your paycheck can be found on the bottom of your paystub.

I calculated mine last night. From my calculations I made about $9000+ in Federal taxable Gross Income.

Without Educational credit I expect to receive about $1400+ in tax refunds.

But if you add Educational credit then I expect to receive about $2400+ in tax refunds.

Is the risk worth taking? School resumed on 2nd of Jan, but was unable to schedule an earlier appointment till 12th Jan and unfortunately, no extension from the school.
I hope I will be able to convince the VO.
Techincally, you can't. Just defer your admission.

You'll be granted "graduated assistantship" if you're qualified for it. But, it totally depends on the school and what their requirements are anyway.

Hope your application is strong?

If you convince the VO. (which you will not) you are likely to be stopped and sent home by the entry point officers.
Anyway if your school has said 2nd then you can not join up at a later date without permission.
So they will cancel your visa!

Right. The last pay-stub for the year details the total received in income for the year and total taxes collected from you for the year as well. Though, the employer would still send to the employee the W2 form that could also be used to file tax refunds.

@Warriboy, there is no hurry sha. You have till till March or even April 15 (the deadline) to gather all the info that you need to file. Some people prefer to file early because they say their refunds to come in quicker (due to less delay) as compared to filing towards the deadline period when it takes a little longer to come in due to more people filing during that time. February - March should be a good time for you to file anyway, by then you should be ready.
