Pls mums I need your help.My soon to be 6 months old doesn't like water. He was exclusively breast fed but I've been giving him cereal(I forced 4 to 5 spoons down his throat)but he refused to take water. Now that I want to start giving him mashed potatoes and other semi solids,he would definitely need water, pls can I mix ribena with his water? That will be sweet and I'm guessing he might take it.He would be 6 months next Monday

soonest:

Since you people have been discharged from hospital that means his bilirubin level(jaundice) is under control. Like Rezzy said, early morning sun is good and also feed baby well.
Note that the eyes don't get white suddenly. It's gradual only make sure it's not getting more yellow.

ok ma I ve already done this morning's own(putting him in d sun). Thk u ma

You can put him under morning sun for some minutes everyday. I took mine outside for 30 minutes everyday till I saw improvement. (my doctor told me me this)

I also used unripe pawpaw water. You soak unripe pawpaw inside water and give him some drops everyday. I didn't like this method but my MIL and mother gave it to him. They said that was what they used in their time.

All sabi mamas will answer you.

Thk u ma for ur prompt response. God bless.

Yes include Ribena but just a 'dash' to avoid funny poo. That is about a cap full (using the cover of the Ribena bottle)mixed with about 120-125ml of water.

Have u seen a dr?

Did she get any antibiotics? Calamine lotion is used to help with managing the rash from measles and also to prevent scars thereafter. it may help with the skin peel that you have mentioned

Keep the lips moisturized with shea butter or vaseline. I believe colour should be restored soon

Diarrhea is a viral infection and sometimes* should be left to run its course. If the baby has stopped pooping watery stools and is eating well and no fever plus appears normal i think you should just let him be!

Let him remain well hydrated though!

Hi mom's. Gudevening to you all and ur sweet babies. Please I want to ask. What do you guys think about those native soaps that people say they use to bath their babies against teething problems? Have you used it before? Does it really work? I wanna know Plz. Tnx

I don't see how a soap used on the surface of the body can help to alleviate any teething issues. Teething occurs on the inside of the body! Some of the soaps though good may have a drying effect (due to the constituents)on some babies skin, so be careful before you use it.

Sheweezy and any other mama's, please let the banana start going brown before pureeing it. At that point of almost going bad, it tastes very sweet (all its natural sugars). Red apples are sweeter amd anything green, most kids hate them (sweetpeas, green beans, avocado). Which is why i liked that sweet potato-titus fish mix, i could smuggle the green peas in it. Baby E likes potato chips (and she has no teeth, she uses her gums to mash it and likes it as a gum massager) and her eyes light up when she sees Garden eggs (weird because I don't like the taste of it particularly). Meanwhile, all those Cow And Gate cereals drove her mad with vex. I think all babies don't like eating but get used to the different flavours and more importantly, textures, eventually. Just keep trying.

She eats garden eggs ke?? Na wa for these children sef grin

I'm picturing her face at the sight of them cow & gate meme LOL

1)How long as he had the cough and catarrh?
2)Any fever?
3)Does he feed well?
4)Does he make a "whistle" or "wheezing" or uncomfortable "snoring" noise while sleeping especially at night?
5)Any improvements with the antibiotics?
6)As he's 3 months old, there are OTC cough syrups he can take. Have you tried any? If yes, any improvements?
7) have you tried elevating his head at night using pillows?

Fantastic. this is what i was expecting to read.

personally, i would ignore that doctor's diagnois of adeniod and do not agree to any talk of surgery.

my son had similar symptons at 4-6 weeks (minus the cold and catarrah) and i took him to see my doctor. he told me that at that age, babies nasal passage and respiratory organs are small and they are still growing, so it is not unusual for some babies to make such funny noises while sleeping. he told me that he would outgrow it. he didnt ask me to do any xray or prescribe antibiotics. true to his words, my baby has outgrown it and he sleeps very quietly and the breathing noises have stopped.

in your case, the funny noises might be as a result of the blocked nose. i was told that when babies have a cold, they accumulate mucus at the bridge of their nose/upper respiratory tract. unfortunately, unlike adults, they are unable to voluntarily sneeze or blow their noses to get rid of the mucus.

finish the dose of antibiotics and make sure he's well dressed and covered (both night and day - whether the weather is warm or not). before my baby got his cold, my mum kept accusing me that i wasnt dressing him properly and that it was better for a baby to have heat rashes than cold/pneumonia. in retrospect, she was right. the stress involved in dealing with heat rash is nothing compared to the sleepless nights and anxiety thats involved in catering to a child with cold/cough.

read my previous post. i listed the home rememdies that worked for my baby regarding cold/blocked nose.

Please do not give him any drugs. My paediatric advised against giving drugs too often especially if a baby is exclusively BF.

If you're too concerned about the frequent stool, you can take flagyl or drink small stout. It's mostly the mums diet that affects the stool of EBF babies. And if no temperature and he is gaining weight, then relax

thanx love for takingnout time to talk to me.may God bless u . first let me confess I contributed to my son's cold and catarrh cuz I use to expose him because he sweats alot.i started covering him some days before going to d hospital last week and I have seen alot of improvement though he is having heat rashes now but I don't mind.i was always being told not to expose him but I use to pity him when he sweats and didn't want rashes....of the truth, I have seen alot of improvement from when I started covering him but day and night and the last antibiotics I just started giving him.

he is sleeping right now, no sound whatsoever is being heard unlike before.i am keeping my calm cuz I know oluwa is involved in his matter.

once again thanx so muh love for taking out time to encourage me.i appreciate. God bless u

my daughter has adenoids, keep ur baby away from dust, insecticides, air freshners and the likes, they are possible triggers.............. then, COD liver oil is ur new bestie.... trust me, i have been in ur shoes, my girl is 2+ now and its alot less. no more fever wen it starts. my dear, when they start school is worse because they contract cold everyother week which is another trigger. cod liver oil helped us. it will pass. as per operating, my paed said its not that big to operate, i am not ur doctor so i cant advise on that. its not necessary to operate except it has grown really large. God will help u pass this phase.

This is a decision you have to take but personally I wouldn't recommend processed drinks for now (and avoid as much as possible). It's full of processed sugars that don't absorb so well and why not try natural sugars? I don't know many doctors or nurses who would give a 6 month old Ribena. Why not try a sweet fruit and mix with water? Oranges right now are not sweet (not their season) but there's something your child likes (watermelon, pineapple, Apple, carrot), you just have to find it. That's just my opinion though.

Good eating habits are hard to establish and all these processed stuff are convenient but come at a price. And we don't fully understand it yet but the people who invented most of them are now endorsing a more organic lifestyle. Food for thought.

For all mums, can we please try and use the Search function on NL? It's a good way to find already hashed out topics because people may not wish to reply you and rather than feel ignored, try that first. If the answers it pulls up are not satisfying, then post smiley I know this question has been answered a lot here and I don't want us to ignore anyone so please try the Search, look up "good baby wash health" for example.
