The win preserves the Eagles’ unbeaten streak ahead of the competition following victories against Amateur side, Rising Stars Academy, University of Pretoria and a 1-1 draw against Angola in their penultimate tune-up game. Onobi believes that he and his team mates have proved they can win the competition in Rwanda with their impressive displays in the friendlies. “We are happy with the win against Cote d’ lvoire. It underlines our readiness to do well in Rwanda,” he told Comple tesportsnigeria.com. “The Ivorians are a good side and they gave us a good fight. “We have learnt a lot from the friendly games played so far and it will serve us well in the competition.” The Eagles’ first game at the CHAN is against Niger on January 18 at the Stade Regional Nyamirambo, Kigali. www.completesportsnigeria.com/onobi-home-eagles-star-confident-of-chan-triumph-after-civ-victory/ |

2016 CHAN: Poor Conditions Threaten Home Eagles’ Morale https://d1bez7r3o7wd77.cloudfront.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Home-Eagles2.png Exclusive By Johnny Edward: The chances of the Home-Based Eagles performing creditably well at the African Nations Championship in Rwanda has been dealt a severe blow as the coaches are yet to receive their salaries and players still owed a backlog of their allowances, Comple tesportsnigeria.com has reliably gathered. A highly placed source in the team also revealed that despite the NFF signing a three year deal with Nike in 2015, the team have been playing with inferior Nike kits in Pretoria and may use the same kits for the tournament proper. The source also noted that despite the 1-0 win over Cote d'Iviore which extended their unbeaten run, the Home Eagles looked like an amateur side in the manner at which they were kitted. "We have to credit the head coach (Oliseh) for keeping the squad focused for the tournament, but for how long will this continue?," the source began in a chat with Completesportsnigeria.com. "The issue of our kits is an embarrassing one because they are very inferior. Even the coach is using his own private kits in training, to tell you how degrading this has become. 'The only bright spot from the friendlies we've played so far is that the boys have been desirous to make names for themselves, but their kits make them look so amateurish which is a big shame for a country like Nigeria. "There have been many distractions here and there. The assistant coaches have not been paid just like the players as well haven't been paid their outstanding camp allowances." The source however thanked the Nigeria Football Federation President, Amaju Pinnick for his magnanimity, paying the medical bills of Jean Loscuito who underwent surgery in Pretoria. According to reports, the Belgian was in severe pains before he was taken to the hospital where doctors found a small metal in his stomach during the surgery which was successful. "We almost lost one of the assistant coaches due to this non-payment issue. The President had to pay for the bills from his own purse to see he (Luiscuito) got the best treatment, not the NFF like it was widely reported." Efforts to reach coach Sunday Oliseh on the issue proved abortive as the former Juventus and Ajax midfielder refused to comment. www.completesportsnigeria.com/2016-chan-poor-conditions-threaten-home-eagles-morale/ |

Watford Coach Blasts EPL Panel Over Ighalo’s Goal Deduction Watford Coach Quique Sanchez Flores has slammed the “unfair” Premier League killjoys who took a goal away from Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo. Flores is sad that Hornets top scorer Ighalo's effort at Chelsea on Boxing Day has been reassigned as a Gary Cahill own goal by the anonymous and unaccountable dubious goals panel. Ighalo's 14 goals this season – as far as Mirror Sport is concerned, his strike at Chelsea stands – have made him one of English football's hottest properties. Watford are bracing themselves for a blizzard of big-money offers for Ighalo, 26, in the summer, with Arsenal and Atletico Madrid among the front runners. His transfer value will not be diminished by the dubious goals committee, whose identities are a closely-guarded secret at the Premier League. But as Ighalo bids to resume his rampage against Southampton on Wednesday night, Flores is not amused by the panel's duff call, which is a binding decision with no right of appeal. He said: “It's unfair. Ighalo's shot was on target, the deflection off the defender only changed the direction by this much (gesturing an inch between his thumb and index finger). “It's strange – for me, it's not fair. So we have Ighalo with one goal less, when Cahill was trying to stop it? “Fortunately, Ighalo is very strong and confident. It is not a problem for him.” He said: “Maybe last year Southampton did better than expected with the squad they had. They were fighting against United, City, Arsenal and Chelsea near the top and it was an amazing performance. “This year maybe some results have affected the confidence of their players, but they have an amazing manager, amazing fans and two weeks ago they scored four against Arsenal, so we know their potential is very high. “I came across their manager, Ronald Koeman, a lot in Spanish football when he was at Barcelona and I was playing for Valencia. “We are not friends, but we were contemporary players and we expect only a tough match.” www.completesportsnigeria.com/watford-coach-hails-outstanding-ighalo/ |

AF 2016 CHAN The history of CHAN https://africanfootball.com/bp_images/2016/01/Libye_Vainqueur_CHAN_2014.jpg 2014 CHAN champions The 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) will kick off in Rwanda this weekend, marking the fourth edition of the biennial tournament. The CHAN was first announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) back in September 2007. It is open only to players who play their trade on the African continent and is held on even-numbered years, alternating with the more high profile Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The first tournament was held in 2009 in Ivory Coast and was won by DR Congo, who defeated Ghana 2-0 in the final. It featured just eight teams and was staged across two venues in Abidjan and Bouake. The tournament expended to 16 teams and five venues for its second edition in Sudan in 2011, which saw Tunisia claim the CHAN title with an emphatic 3-0 win over Angola in the final. The tournament then ‘missed’ a year and was only staged again in 2014, with CAF deciding to swap the AFCON to odd-numbered years so that their main competition was not staged in the same years as the World Cup. The third CHAN therefore only took place in 2014 in South Africa, a tournament which saw Libya emerge as surprise winners after they beat Ghana on penalties in the final. The current qualification format assigns slots to each region of the continent in the following manner (including host nation): two slots each for North Zone and Zone West A; three slots each for Zone West B, Central Zone, Central-East Zone and Southern Zone. The 2016 edition will be the first of three successive CHAN tournaments staged in East Africa, with Kenya and Ethiopia to host the 2018 and 2020 editions respectively. africanfootball.com/news/601235/The-history-of-CHAN Reply |

AF Nigeria 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers - Africa Cote D'ivoire 2016 CHAN: Oliseh faces first major test https://africanfootball.com/bp_images/2016/01/Samm_4_Jan_6.jpg Oliseh (middle) flanked by his assistants by Samm Audu The 2016 CHAN, which kicks off in Rwanda on Saturday, could well define Sunday Oliseh’s time in charge of Nigeria as many will judge him on the results and performances of the team of domestic league players at this bi-ennial continental tournament. Expectations in Nigeria are again high the country’s ‘B’ team will go all way in Rwanda after they finished third at this same competition in South Africa two years ago. The biggest criticism against the team coach Stephen Keshi lined up in South Africa was that they were not really representative of the best players in the Nigeria league as all the coaches were far removed from the domestic championship. The result was that players like goalkeeper Chigozie Agbim and Solomon Kwambe, who only managed a handful of games for their local clubs, were picked ahead of better and fitter players on the domestic scene. That cannot be said of the current CHAN Eagles as the backroom staff led by assistant coach Salisu Yusuf and Alloy Agu took the pains to scout for the best players to fly the flag proudly for the ever-growing Nigeria league. In Rwanda, Nigeria will parade some of the stars of the past season – Tunde Adeniji and Chisom Chikatara scored between them 29 goals in the last campaign, defenders Chima Akas, Austin Oboroakpo and Orji Kalu were consistent at their clubs, while Ifeanyi Matthew, Paul Onobi, Ezekiel Bassey and Bature Yaro were the driving forces for their respective teams. Oliseh has had long enough time to pass down his ideas and philosophy to these players right from when he was named the country’s coach in July 2015 amid high expectations. Several of these players have also worked with the coach in the full international squad. He also had two weeks to train the team in South Africa during which time they played two warm-up matches against teams who will also be at the CHAN – Angola and Cote d’Ivoire. What he is therefore able to produce in Rwanda will most certainly go a long in determining the fortunes of the country in the coming months with crucial AFCON and 2018 World Cup qualifiers fast approaching. At the end of March, Nigeria face a double-header against Egypt in the qualifying tournament for the 2017 AFCON with experts in agreement that results of these two games could make or mar the country’s chances of qualification to Gabon 2017. Good results in Rwanda will lift the confidence of the players as well as fans leading up to these two big matches. The results could also improve our FIFA ranking going into the draw for the World Cup qualifiers in June. Nigeria are currently a poor 66thon the FIFA rankings and if this rating did not improve remarkably before the draw on June 24, the Eagles could get as many as two of Africa’s top teams in a final round of the World Cup qualifiers to be played on league basis with only the overall winners booking their passage to Russia 2018. Oliseh has already capped skipper Chima Akas, Oboroakpo, Usman Mohammed, Ezekiel Bassey, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Bature Yaro at full international level and it is expected that several other players on this CHAN squad will also get their chance with the Super Eagles on the strength of what they show in Rwanda. The qualifiers and warm-up games have shown this team create many chances and in the absence of last season’s hotshot Gbolahan Salami, younger strikers Adeniji and Chikatara must now rise to the occasion after midfielders Bature Yaro, Bartholomew ‘Mosquito’ Ibenegbu and Ifeanyi Matthew have delivered in front of goal at crunch time. The CHAN Eagles are the foundation on which Oliseh can rebuild the Super Eagles and so the results in Rwanda are very crucial for both the country and their young coach. africanfootball.com/news/601015/2016-CHAN-Oliseh-faces-first-major-test Reply |

I only hope we don’t have to fight against the referee as well,” said the former Benin and Guinea coach. The Ivorians, who eliminated Ghana to reach Rwanda 2016, trained in South Africa ahead of the CHAN, drawing 1-1 with Guinea before they lost 1-0 to Nigeria on Monday. I remember people wanted Amodu to invite him for AFCON 2010. He should be like 27-29 now.
and will resume the next phase by Mid-January. I was "having some good fun + looking into one or two things... But I did touch a little on academics... Only a little ooo"
