BTW he only paid half salaries for those he's been owing 10months + and claimed that's all he could afford to pay.
I wonder how anyone in good conscience can support that devil of a man.

That is the right, sensible and logical thing to do to balance the books. Revenues are declining and if additional cash cannot be generated the government has no option.

Is Imo Water Corporation not essential to the mass? Why closing it down?
Obviously they don't provide water for the masses.
He's just making it clear that they have no plans to fix whatever is broken in that sector and give people water.
Hence everyone buys water or has their own borehole.

Sh1thole of a place.

Well, they have abdicated the job of water provision to private individuals using boreholes.

You thought chanting "change" will actually change anything?

I'm from Imo, that's a vital bold step from rochas and his best ever performance since 2011 coz this govt. Parastatal are not active atall in the state but hope he replaces them with devoted and hardworking employees coz that guy is greedy he might decide to be pocketing there salaries. Rochas is greedy and heartless.

This morning, as we speak, oil went down to $28 per barrel.

And what does this mean for Nigeria? It means that the amount of money that comes into the treasury is falling. And when that happens, the hard choices have got to be made.

Once upon a time, in the 1980's Ghana too had this problem. Their major earners like cocoa and bauxite were not bringing in the money. They had two options...take a IMF loan....or austeirty via SAP.

Ghana took the SAP option. They sacked 10000 government workers.

And yes...people suffered. Yes...there were protests. Yes...that is not what JJ promised us.

But ten years later...Ghana's economy was back up again.

We may not like Rochas,we may complain about APC promising us change....but the fact is...oil was $112 in 2012....and now it is $28 this morning. We have to cut costs. Rochas has to cut the amount spent on the governor's office.....but that still won't be enough to save lots of workers. Some workers have to be sacked. The hard choices have to be made.

And yes....PDP should have saved when GEJ was in charge.....but even then, that would have delayed things by a year.

Fellow Nigerians.....the road to prosperity lies via austerity. If PDP was in charge....we would have been singing the same story....and I probably would have been lambasting them for not saving. But savings or no savings...oil is going to stay below 30 dollars for the next five years. So...we better find our square root. We all have to take a cut in our spending habits. We are not a rich nation....ok.?

P.S: States too need to be more aggressive in earning money. So.....Rochas is partly to blame....by making his state too reliant on Abuja for money. And after....we will be calling for federalism.

Re: Okorocha Sacks 3,000 Civil Servants by dpopsman(m): 11:37am On Jan 18, 2016
In their statement,
The statement added that “Government is satisfied that it is no longer in public interest to keep running these agencies, parastatals and departments with huge cost on public revenue and no services to the public, under the present economic realities.”

I think the above is nothing but a falsehood and an outlier propaganda.
For a government to sustain her revenue base, there's a need to internally generate a commearsurable proportion that will complement the federal allocation in order to increase their independence level.

But how will they achieve this when most of the affected ministries and parastatals are the key.

The state should rather put those men & women to productive work and not lay them off for any reason whatsoever.
Head slashing is never a panacea to headache irrespective of its severity...

God bless Nigeria

One of the first "Decrees" of Okorocha govt was that water supply is now privatized in Imo state.

But one of the major reasons his Orlu main constituency voted him in 2011 was to start the area's regional water supply scheme. Similar water schemes worth tens of billions of Naira have been built in Okigwe and Owerri, but are lying dormant.

But the people continued to vote him.

omooba969:
There you go again blaming the govt, blaming the governor for everything when it's a common knowledge that most of these civil servants are useless & are equally a waste of space. CHANGE is a constant thing in life & Imo state has to restructure in order to continue running the state biz effectively.

Do you want the state govt to keep them on even as we all know that the state would be running on a tight budget? Your likes would also run here wailing that salaries are not paid. What kind of govt do you people want? (In PMB's voice)

The entire Nigerian civil service needs overhauling IMO.

Have a good day. cool
Only people who have been initiated into ogboni or other useless occultic fraternity would lend support to devastating conscienceless moves like this. During recession reasonable governments initiate projects to boost economic activities by creating jobs to fight unavoidable layoffs which always certainly characterize the private sector.

Sadly, here you are shamelessly applauding a brainless inhuman action which leaves more families distraught, consequently alarms criminal tendencies and in the end ensures that you are more unsafe. Henceforth I expect FG to be too shamefaced to urge the private sectors to halt further layoffs.
