I was about to say this but I think Ifeajuna was in CommonWealth Game in 1954

Emmanuel Arinze Ifeajuna (1935–25 September 1967)[1] was a Nigerian army major and high jumper. He was the first Black African to win a gold medal at an international sports event when he won at the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games. His winning mark and personal best of 6 ft 8 in (2.03 m) was a games record and a British Empire record at the time.

Nojim Maiyegun (born February 21, 1944 in Lagos) is a retired Nigerian boxer, who won the bronze medal in the men's Light Middleweight (71 kg) category at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

He was Nigeria's first Olympic medalist.

Thank you OP for remembering the great Nojim Maiyegun. He is from Lafiaji in Obalende, Lagos Island. A filling station is now where his family house was situated. His younger brother Isiaka Maiyegun told me a lot about him.

Ifejuana was for common wealth games. Nojeem Maiyegun won for Olympic Games

Major Ifeajuna was d first to win a commonwealth medal. Nojeem is d first to win an Olympic medal

Great. The cause of the blindness should be diagnosed. I doubt, like Maiyegun would want us believe, the blindness is as a result of punches. Muhammed Ali, George Foreman, etc received more punches and were never blind. At 74 it is just Parkingson's Disease that Ali suffers.

I cld tell u've lived in Obalende before Bro. Immediately i read his name my mind took me to straight to Obalende rd dat was named after him. That name is as old as anything lol. I grew up in Dodan Barracks hence the famzing.

This is a beautiful history, yet, my country nigeria, her government wants to remove history from school curriculum. Nigerian is the only country without history for fuure generation to learn from. What a country filled with disgrace and shame.
