But while these funds are not serving the “REAL SECTOR” of roads, bridges, hospitals, rails, airports, fee paying universities, there is a palpably visible poverty in most of these countries, some of who gathered to seek funding support in South Africa recently at the instance of the Chinese Government who offered funding support (loans) of $60 billion for all of Africa, when 10 (ten) pension funds had $310 Billion to invest. |

In contrast to the mismanagement that used to be the story of our own pension funds, the most prolific of the pension funds in Africa, which is the South African Public Investment Corporation (PIC) has over $150 Billion assets under management. While Nigeria is stealing and sitting on even more than that in pension fund/local money based here in Nigeria free to invest, develop our country and create endless jobs, South Africa invested $897million of their pension fund in our economy, making tons of $ and sending it all back to South Africa That's critical and adult thinking for you.. Penny wise, pound foolish.. |

An online publication of “Institutional Investors” estimated that Sub-Saharan Africa’s ten largest pension fund markets had approximately $310 billion in assets recently. You can take that wisdom to the bank... |

Long read but well worth it...a critical and practical approach is needed in addressing our problems objectively...political risks remains the biggest danger to both foreign and local investment in differing infrastructure but gradually...we are getting there via democracy however imperfect it is. ![]() |

adekhingz:Nigeria borrowing from pensions is a logical option, considering the current economic milieu. Why couldn't he have written it ? The whole novel sounds very Fashola-esque. Fashola, in love with OPM since 2007. |

Is it cheaper to drive on a road free of toll, and spend 5 hours for a 1 (one) hour journey? If you calculate the fuel burnt in 5 hours of standstill traffic and the stress, you will see that the toll free is not free.Well said.. Penny wise, pound foolish... |

I've been experiencing headache since morning which has made me unproductive all day, i was wanted to withdraw to my bed and retire for the day when i saw the caption of fashola, you must read this or whatever, then i said to myself, actually am really tired and exhausted, if i can manage to read this, then i can assume i've achieved something for today. And to my expectation, Fashola never disappoints. All i want to ask is what are the books fashola reads? Its high time fashola starts a mentorship programme, he really needs to impact his knowledge and experience on us the upcoming generation. That been said, some of his points prove my assertion that the greatest contribution to Nigeria's economic woes is not non-performance of our political class, but the wickedness of our judicial system. Clearly pointed out in his speech, when investors can not be sure that justice will be delivered when dispute arises in the course of doing their business, they won't come in to invest. Like i've always said, there so many multi billion dollar business who can produce their energy, provide their security and improve the economy of the country, their only headache will always be, administration of justice whenever there's collision with the government or their private entity counterparts. Nevertheless, i strongly believe we are moving, slowly we 'll get there. |

It was a long read but it was worth it. Honestly we do not have a choice....I'll gladly pay a toll fee to drive from warri to patani today just to ensure that good portion of the East West road stays ok than drive for free from Aba to Enugu. Let the relevant laws be amended and let the pension funds get put to sensible use. Like Fashola asked "Do we sell Nigeria or do we own Nigeria?" Through our pension funds, I think we can decide to own Nigeria. |

swtdrms: The Lagos-Ibadan ExpresswayThis is an eye opener.. How the FG screw us up and deter our progress... Sometimes it's like we've had nothing but dumbos and illiterates ruling Nigeria.. |

Thanks for this piece. I know many people will not read this because it is beyond their intelligent level. When is this guy writing his autobiography for God's sake! Reading this piece alone makes it possible for one to read Fashola's mind. I think this can now explain the grey hair. ![]() |

Finished reading d piece n I was speechless...... Dis Bros seems to have something to say in almost every matter..... I think d problem z most people seek 4 immediate returns, no patience to wait...... Nice investment ideas there like d university hostels, though I don't get d kind of investment one can have in d prison sector...... Now we also know what's been holding back some developments we have been yearning for, like the Lagos-Ibadan expressway n distribution of meters |

The government of the day should revisit the Lagos - Ibadan expressway and settle out of court with both parties to enable development of that road. A toll gate should be set on the Warri - Patani section of the East West road to ensure that the road is forever maintained, Street lights should also be installed there. Benin to Warri should be developed and tolled too with street lights. |

Wow!!! These are the kind of articles that after reading, leaves you speechless and you don't know where to start from. So many points of interest raised. This is also an eye-opener. We need this kind of expose from the likes of BRF to educate us on the workings of the government because most times when we criticise the government, it's mostly out of ignorance. This speech has explained a lot of happenings many are unaware of. I'm always a big fan of Fash (even my Dad) despite his flaws ![]() |

Quite a long speech but very educative indeed. BRF made a very important point but we have all allowed politics to affect our sense of belonging |

Fashola and The Sincerity Of Purpose. This is one man whose soundness of mind can not be doubted. Of particular interest to me is South Africa's judicious use of their pension funds. Just wow. |

Blown away by the depth and richness of Fashola's mind. We are indeed blessed to have him. He's no doubt an astute administrator. My bet is this man will be Nigeria's President some day. You can take it to the bank. May the Almighty God keep him. Amen |

tollu:We not only sit on our hands and let our pension funds rot away, we let crooks and corrupt elements loot our funds and even let the looters walk away free and even also give them better government positions just like GEJ did with the pension looter... We are not just blessed with too many sane and credible leaders like Fashola.. |
