Funny that the younger generation that should be more civilised are the ones against inter tribal marriage. Well, it's a lost battle already! I have several family members (male and female) married to other tribes (especially Igbos ) and doing great. God bless our Iyawos Okos and Anas (in-laws). Great relationships both ways. They are not OSU by the way which in any case is irrelevant to me. I still wonder why a set of people will be discriminated against within a tribe and you expect other tribes to respect you as a group.

By the way, you guys have forgotten that Professor Chukuemeka Ike and Chief Emeka Anyaoku among many others are married to Yorubas.

Maybe it's a class thing like some have suggested. The world has indeed changed, leaving some behind!

Inter tribal marriage will always occur, I see nothing wrong with it, as long as naive people don't misconstrue it for a basis for unity. There are Israelis married to Arabs, it does not in anyway change the relationship between the Israeli nation and the Arabs.

Marriages are personal decisions and has no significance whatsoever in the national scheme of things as we all know that majority of Igbos will not marry from Yorubas and vice versa.

Chiwetel lady will not be the first Igbo person to marry a Yoruba, The Asagba of Asaba is married to a Yoruba woman, Chinua Achebe remained a Biafran at heart till his last breathe, rejecting honours from Nigeria severally, yet he gave his daughter to a Yoruba man for marriage.

Marriage remain an issue of the heart, nobody should read more into it. Igbo nation and Yoruba nation remain parallel lines that can never meet, as long as Nigeria remains United.

If Ooni's son or daughter meet a good spouse material from any of the tribes, they will just ask if he/she can adjust to the new challenge and yes, they will approve of it. While we still have a very few bigots (I remembered a man who was such a bigot and whose son and daughters married outside his will), majority Yoruba's are liberal-minded in the real life.
For a Yoruba man, you character should supersedes your tribal affiliations (yes, you must learn the in-laws politics too, differing from tribe to tribe) and many of us are ready to roll in that new line.
