My Traumatic experience with Acunon of Niaraland

I’ve never been a fan of buying used electronic products.
But due to the Naira - Dollar crisis, i was tempted to patronize Acunon. Although browsing through his thread, i read an unresolved case of him selling a defective tv to a guy, i felt like iI wouldn’t be unlucky enough to have a similar case because there’s also a lot of positive testimonies on his thread.

18th of january this year, i sent Acunon 175k for a samsung smart TV - curved screen.
On the 20th of january, the tv arrived and upon delivery, i was disappointed when i turned the TV on and there was a straight vertical line on the screen. I felt very sad.
I called Acunon who couldn’t believe until i sent him pictures of the tv on whatsapp.

Long story short, we decided to resolve the case by me sending the TV back to him so he could resell it and refund me - I even accepted to split the loss with him if the tv was sold at a cheaper price.

Next day, i got a call from Acunon asking me to send the TV back so the screen could be repaired. He asked me to send it back by the same courier service that delivered the TV to benin.

I packaged the TV just as it was brought and if you ask me, the packaging of the TV by Acunon was by all standards; WRONG. I buy electronics online from Jumia, Konga and even on Amazon and Ebay. I know how fragile items are wrapped and packaged carefully with shock absorbers to prevent damage in transit. This curved TV was wrapped in a single shock absorber of about 1 inch thick. The shock absorber was just cellotaped to the front of the screen. No protection whatsoever on the back or sides of the screen as unlike standard packaging of fragile items which are usually “EMBEDDED” in thick shock absorbers to prevent shock from all directions.

After packing the TV i sent it to the park and was charged 2k to send it back to lagos - Here i was disappointed when i realized that prior to Acunon sending the TV, he advised me to use a courier service of 5k - chiefly on the point that the couriers that charge 5k are more reliable than couriers that charged 2-3k. He even mentioned that couriers that charge 2-3k could damage the tv in transit - So then at the park, i realized that this was the “ cheap and unreliable courier service” he used although i paid 5k for a more reliable courier service.

Fast forward to yesterday, i got an angry call from Acunon saying the tv arrived but was damaged upon delivery. I was not surprised considering the courier service he asked me to use and the standard of packaging he sent the tv with - which is the cause of the defect on the TV . i had to end the call because i was driving but all calls to get back to Acunon since yesterday evening has been futile. Over 30 calls, unanswered or busied - no response up until this morning when he sent me a message on whatsapp saying I WRAPPED THE TV LIKE TRASH - “ THE SAME WAY THE TV WAS PACKAGED TO BENIN” and THAT I WILL NOT GET BACK MY MONEY.

MR Acunon, please give me back my money. I paid 175k for a tv, this is your business, you packaged the tv carelessly and sent it through a cheap, unreliable courier service and it was delivered as a defective TV to me, please refund me or replace the TV.

Thank you as i look forward to resolving this case with less headaches than it has already brought.

Na wah.

N175k for a defective tv?

Acunon, i'll advice you sort out this issue with your client because bad feedbacks gradually drive away potential clients.

It is well.

I'm really surprised that the same sugar coated Acunon who I secretly admired for having great communicative skills told me that I'm feeling like God and if it's my money I want, I don't get it back

@Chidi, very sorry for the unfortunate incidence. I believe Acunon will resolve it with you. I need to state that delivery might sometimes go wrong that is why most standard delivery company do insurance but their cost is expensive. I received my TV from Acunon through same delivery company in Benin and the TV was okay and still working well.

@Acunon, try and resolve this issue. I will also advise you also include insurance for TVs to be delivered. Anybody that refuse to pay the insurance will be liable for any damage.

Thanks

If all what the poster said above is true, then, Acunon should do everything possible to refund him completely.

I actually wonder why the buyer is willing to bear part of the damage; you paid for a more expensive courier service but the seller used a relatively cheaper means to make little change and at the end the item got damage on transit (perhaps).

You're being too soft with him. Imagine the seller's response to a customer's complaint. I strongly advise that you use all means legal to get your full refund from him and should you run out of legal options, do let me know.

BTW, Chidi, I'll need your number for a serious discussion. It's been ages friend.

People who have patronized my service or items mostly do so via either referrals or online research. bro answer this guy like a man and resolve the issue.

This is similar to the experience I had with him. My suspicion is that he does this with expensive televisions. I also paid him 190K for a 55" LG TV which he brought himself. On setting up the TV, I saw that it had two lines. He had promised to take the TV back from me since September last year. I think he waits for expensive TVs to strike. The people giving him good recommendations are the ones buying small sized TVs for small money. When you ask him for a large screen expensive TVs, he strikes, like the fraud that he is. He brings you a defective TV and pretends that the TV got spoilt in transit.

Thanks for the write as you almost explained every thin th happened, i have been sending tvs to clients in Benin using that courier service company and has never heard of complain until this day, i have been using the same means of packing my tvs for my client to my best way of totally protecting the tv with a Styrofoam to act as guild on the screen and a carton to cover the entire tv to advoid damage and also in scribing the names, valid phone number and address of my client on it boldly not forgetting my favorite "Very fragile, handle with care" on it. Though i do give my clients two different options to choose from either the GIG Logistics or a local courier service, the gig logistics uses either an advanced payment where by the cost of the goods will be asked along with the weight measurement of the goods which after ways gives you a total amount that will be paid when it arrives ur destination as an insured goods or a fixed amount on how the goods can be transported to your destination with insurance which are some close cheap, i told the op between the two, the choose the one of 4k with hope that it will arrive safely without qualms. But before i sent that particular goods, i had to personally supervise the packaging of that tv with a thick carton not the so called inches the op wrote so as to cover the screen and i inserted it into a 50" thick carton along with the remote control and the power cord. So how is it my fault that the tv broke as a result of poor packaging, do you knw what we go through every day there to see that we get a tight protection here for tvs or you think we sell new ones. We I received it, it was jst in bad condition as it was neglected and i was sad as it might have been broken, i called the op he told me that he was driving. I had to end the call and took it to my office where i opened it to my very surprised the op wrapped the tv with a single cellophane which made the tv dangling around the carton. I though maybe the op needed his money that was why he was not even bothered about the situation and sent it to this condition. So dear op, i dnt have any negative thought about you bt its the way ur The 55UEHU7100 Is 260k curve 4k. UE55J6300 is 250k curve .ue55H700 smart 3D is 180k.UE55H6400 is 180k smart 3D. UE55HU6900 is 230k curve 4k. Sorry for the delayare blaming it on me as if i sold a defective tv to you. I wish it can be resolve soon.
Thanks

Mr Acunon, why are you being evasive with your response?
Why did you omit the part about warning me against sending the tv with the cheap couriers ( which cost 2k) which could damage the tv in transit?

When I said the packaging of the TV was way below the appropriate standards for packaging a fragile item, I'm being very truthful here. If anyone is familiar with buying electronics, they would know the thickness and form of shock absorbers that are used to package the fragile electronic.

For standard packaging, the fragile item is embedded in thick, durable Styrofoam (shock absorber) which encloses the fragile item. Check an new tv or DVD and see for yourself. Before paying for the TV, I thought you would know better.

When I said the the shock absorber was 1 inch thick, I am being truthful here. The Styrofoam you used was 1 inch thick and just cellotaped to the front of the screen, no styrofoams on the side or back to prevent damage if a shock impact is experienced from the back or side. I wish I had taken a picture of the packaging before sending the tv back to you.
This is your fault. Not mine.
Ever seller has the responsibility of delivering a purchased item until it gets to the buyer in good condition. So I will go on say, I paid 175k for a smart curved tv, but a defective unit was delivered to me.

After dropping your call, you've neither called or picked my numerous calls to you, yet you have the time to update your thread with more tv's for sale, yet you have the time to be online but not respond to me.

And regarding your unprofessional responses on whatsapp, I wonder how you intend to resolve the situation when you say I won't have my money back and as I type this, you still have not gotten back to me and I'm wondering what type of a business man are.

I did not omit the part of warning you about transport, i asked you about what to choose, which you did so and we settled for the 4k courier service after i told you 5k,when we pack our tvs we dnt use syrofoam on the back, we use a carton to protect it all round so as to advoid breakage of function board parts and also scratch. I will say it again, we dnt sell new products and dnt intent to pack it as new, we pack with strong available materials either syrofoam, glass or carton. You are still getting it wrong, if the syrofoam was one inches thick it would had broken bt it never did n secured the screen from smashing. I did not pick up your calls because i was angry on why you would want to send me an almost damaged tv all in the name of you want your money back, it can't work there. We have accepted the condition and we will tend to work towards it. The courier service company did not claim responsibility for it as they showed me there terms of non payment even when a goods is damaged.....
