Laziness kills faster than drinking rat poison. But sadly most good jobs go to those with vital connections.

Now my practical street Experience

In my findings, I found out that, an average barber cuts at 200naira per head and has at least 5 customers per day. Meaning you can make BTW 1k to 2k convincingly. That's, BTW 24k to 48k averagely in a month (excluding Sundays), at your own pace, time and cinviniency.

In the same vein, I had once asked a young boy using keke napep to ply around a university campus, how much he makes daily, who owns the keke and how much does he delivers. The boy told me he is looking for admission, he makes 6k per day between 7am to 5pm (Including time to rest and pray in the mosque). I questioned further, he told me he delivers 4k daily to his dad and holds 2k. Meaning, he makes 10k weekly for himself and 20k for his dad (for five working days, excluding Saturdays and Sundays). Invariably, he makes 40k monthly from riding keke and delivers 80k for his dad.. Hmn, akeem told me about his dream to still go to school, get the certificate and set himself up with a good business. I won't be surprised to see him 10years later as a rich man and a philanthropist.
-
I have also had similar experience with those that sells fruits, at least I have seen a woman living next close to my room who I overheard from someone, of how she makes at least 2k daily from selling ogi (local custard). Funny enough she doesn't hawk around, as people come to book and buy. She makes money from the shaft (eri) and unimaginably, the pap water for those that love it to make herbs (Agbo).

-The above and many more are ways to get busy if one is still looking for office jobs, at least, life would go on as they use to say. Basic necessities would be taken care of and with planning, one can move to other endeavours.

Thank you.

I certainly support your idea of getting busy while one is in search of a good job,on the other hand, your research findings are flawed.

OP. Nice observation. I discuss same issues with people all the time.

A young man here on NL last week was having a go at diaspora people/graduates who do menial jobs.

He mentioned washing dead bodies as if that job is even easy to get abroad. grin

Whereas those people doing menial jobs remit lots of money to Nigeria for friends and relative's feeding, education, medical bills, house family members, set up businesses etc. They work hard and manage their pay to do decent things.

But most 9ja youths with any piece of paper/certificate want an office job.

If you know how much danfo drivers deliver everyday.......you will be surprise.let me put it this way let's just say a danfo driver delivers at least 5k per day for five days excluding Saturday and sunday....that is 5*5=25 per week. Then we have at least 4 weeks in a month,25*4=100 per month.....we have 12 month in a year 100*12=1.2m per year, that can buy another bus if you want to.this is just a rough estimate.....mind you if you drive the bus yourself you will make more than that.

Daphne du Maurier, once said, "I wondered how many people there were in the world who suffered, and continued to suffer, because they could not break out from their own web of shyness and reserve, and in their blindness and folly built up a great distorted wall in front of them that hid the truth".

As one of friend would say, " Oga Ade, na who get money we know ".

Lol.. I don't know what your definition of illiteracy is, but I can tell you I'm well read and exposed for my age.
Without being modest, I had 2.1 degree in biochemistry, I'm an hustler and presently a postgraduate student of a reputable business school.

Well, I can tell you I'm a product of the academia and the street vibes.

Stay bless.

@micronut I like your very detailed write up. However your consistent use of "am" in place of "I am" or "I'm" really ticked me of. Such a long write up suggests that you have taken your time to pen your thoughts, most likely written from a laptop rather than a smartphone. I would expect you to pay details to such small things. Fix it and your write up is top notch

What do h think about starting a Cyber Cafe business or Business center for typing/printig/ etc. You'll make cool cash too

Re: Unemployment And The Danger Of Personal Shyness: My Experience. by uncjay(m):
it so pitiable to see many graduates wasting away looking for one blue collar job, at worst they still tries to make choices, knowingfully the very state of the nigeria economy. Instead of them to be creative or simply look for simple means of livelihood, they chose to stay idle and cry to the govt. Expecting miracle? thats illusion and laziness , work for something. I'm still in school and I already have a business plan, hoping to get establish when I'm out. just to avoid the heavy joblessness in the country.
