@Goldencollins Don't know how many bags can be harvested from a plot because mine occupies 500 sq ft (50ft by 10ft) and I'm still harvesting. Cucumbers are harvested weekly until they die off.
How do you water?
Re: My Successful Cucumber Sack Farm In Kaduna by vanpeele: 1:41pm On Jan 30, 2016
@Jesusbaby Manually. Bucket and well..although I'll eventually use my very own DIY drip irrigation system.

Ok. Do you know of a seed called Americana? How much does it cost if it's available?
Re: My Successful Cucumber Sack Farm In Kaduna by vanpeele: 4:49pm On Jan 30, 2016
@Goldencollins so far two bags but from 1 variety. Will harvest next week but I may stall a bit longer for the other varieties to catch up. The project is ongoing. Will let you know when they eventually die.

@Jesusbaby Sorry but never heard of them.

Hello everyone,

I recently began a sack farming project to see how possible it was to grow cucumbers in sacks. I'll like to announce that it was a successful endeavour. For those who don't have land to farm on, you all have no more excuse. It's as easy as just putting soil (which is free) in a sack and that's it. I thank all the agric, vegetables and cucumber lords of this forum. Una don try and una still dey try. Please enjoy the pics...they speak better.

Please feel free to ask any questions... grin
Ok..really this is good...Please where do you stay in. Kaduna?please I am looking for Elephant Grass, Guinea grass, Giant star grass, Spear grass, Bahama grass, Carpet grass, Northern Gamba, Southern gamba, Centro, Stylo, Kudzo, Calop, Muccuna and sun hemp. Please it's my class project and I stay in Kaduna, I just need at least one leaf of the following crops I listed please...If you can help me get them or tell me where I can find them I'll be really grateful..Thanks, waiting for reply.

@farouk0403 1 sack per sack. For tomatoes and pepper just 1 per sack is enough

@vanpalee... great job my brother. I am also a cucumber farmer. Just had a very bad experience. lost my farm to pest attack. ... White flies, leaf miner, nematode. My raining season planting was so smooth .Didn't experience any itch. ...Nematode was the last thing I ever thought off. The whole thing all started with whiflies. Those things don't finish. it's like the more you spray them , the stronger the come back. I tried about 3 different insecticides. ... attacked, avesthrin and rocket. .... Thought white flies was the only issue until I uprooted one cucumber plant. lo and behold, nematode.....They almost have the same symptoms.... Yellowing of leaves, stunted growth etc. I tried all I could to save them, but it was too late. Painful though, but it was a great learning experience. Very important to treat your soil with nematicide.....leaf miner was the last to show up. Though called the Ibadan office of Agritropic, but it was bit late as I couldn't get somebody to help me get fighter from them...Please how effective was the fighter 35ec for white flies? Did it also work for the leaf miner? Did you have any experience of nematodes? ....Also let us know your rate of application and the quantity per knapsack... This your NEVER USE POULTRY MANURE stuff is a bit confusing. I have always used it. And I am very sure other people will want to know too. Most people are used to poultry manure......Abeg jasper, Soloxam your contributions will also be helpful. Thanks

Your thread has really made me more determined. There is no going back. Cucumber is one of the best vegetables to grow. Will definitely start work on the sack project. Thanks
Re: My Successful Cucumber Sack Farm In Kaduna by vanpeele: 7:47am On Jan 31, 2016
@kaybosedemi Fighter is very very good. I use 1ml per 1 liter. When I had severe aphids attack I used 2ml per liter but only once but then continued with the first rate. I sprayed everyday till I was sure they were all dead. I sprayed once in 3 days after that then once a week when flowering began but stopped entirely because you need them bees. Take your time and spray on and under the leaves, and on the stem.

Nematodes don't like a lot of water in the soil. Try drowning them. Don't let your soil dry out. Chicken manure in sack is what I'm against. It killed all the experiments I've used it with (maybe I'm unlucky with it).

I hope this helps.

Funny as it may sound, the likely culprit maybe lizard or frog but it may also be birds. For us here quail is the bird.

Hope this helps
