But I always wonder why most of the seemingly 'spectacular' lawyers are from only a part of the country.

From FRA Williams to Gani Fawehinmi to Femi Falana to Yusuf Alli to Akin Olujimi to Afe Babalola to Wole Olanipekun to Rotimi Akeredolu to Tunji Abayomi to Olalekan Ojo to Niyi Akintola and a host of the other guys.

Been trying to solve the riddle behind this situation for quite a while. Anyone can help out ?

The average Ondo (inclusive of Ekiti) man, can argue to death -- they are my people. Imagine a 15 years younger cousin of mine (in 2009), trying to prove to me that Rihanna is more popular than Michael Jackson; I felt like strangling him. cheesy grin cheesy

You all are mentioning University of Ibadan, OAU, and Unilorin. Unfortunately, this man is a product of Unilag. Only a pro Chancellor to UI.

[s]What do you expect?

Any lawyer who doesn't pass through or have a link with ILORIN can't be that successful in Nigeria.

check the records before you rain insults on yourself[/s]

You have totally got it wrong. Tell me " the Ilorin link" with the following successful lawyers; Afe Babalola (SAN) Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) Alex Iziong (SAN) Chif Fawehinmi (SAN) Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) Akin Olujimi (SAN) Femi Falana (SAN) and host of other lawyer. Not even F R A Williams

Just because Wole Olanipekun(SAN) , Aegboyega Awomolo(SAN) ,Roland Otaru (SAN) and Yusuf Ali (SAN) started or based in Ilorin respectively does not mean legal blessings reside in Ilorin.

I'm amazed that they ended up having such a Governor.

Not only the 2.Even Olanipekun himself is an ekiti man being from Ikere Ekiti. So Also One of the best brains in constitutional law Prof Akin Oyebode.

Ekiti is actually too blessed to have the likes of Fayose as Gov.Believe me !!

One of the highest paid which goes a long way in high profile cases. They can outsource some task to good outside lawyers and pay them a million for little work, shifting through court judgements to see precedents.

Its funny 'cos I was having these thoughts today.

Lawyers are funny and maybe crooked folks. Dakuku and Umana have similar cases yet he helped Wike defeat Dakuku and wants to help Umana defeat Udom. I smiled when I heard him say "Card reader isn't the only premise of his petition" cheesy cheesy

How is he able to stand on both sides of the divide in a matter of days? cheesy grin

I doubt he'll win the case today anyway......Dakuku lost, so will Umana lose. But whichever way it pans out, Wole Olanipekun is a damn good lawyer.

I started noticing him during Yaradua's defence, l watch it live on TV then, and the case btw Fayemi and Oni where he accuses a younger lawyer of being disrespectful by saying

"l have been practising law before u got admission into school"

and the younger lawyer responded by telling him that " age is not wisdom" the whole court was filled with laughter.

Wole Olanepekun is damn good. These days, once a high profile case is before the court, I just identify the counsels on both sides of the divide and immediately I know who would win the case. Once Wole is a counsel on any case, the probability of winning that case is ninety percent.

EFCC must be properly funded to enable it secure the services of good lawyers or else, they would continue to loose their cases with the services of Festus Keyamo. I do not see EFCC winning the case against Olisa Metuh. With the likes of Dr Onyeachi Ikpeazu (SAN) and Chief Chris Uche (SAN) standing in for Metuh, I just pity the EFCC.

Afe babalola that gave bakkasi to cameroun without any valid arguement at world court or was there a conspiracy to give part of crossriver to cameroun?

It was Prince Bola Ajibola that represented Nigeria, not Afe Babalola

Fayose is a pointer to the level of decadence in the Nigerian society. The case between OBJ and Atiku is one of my proudest moments as an Ekiti man. Baba Afe represented OBJ, while Chief Olanipekun represented Atiku. It was his good performance that made Afe recommend Wole Olanipekun to Yar adua.

This view is held by the poster because of the number of political cases Wole Olanipekun has handled at the apex court. However, that does not qualify him as the best lawyer in Nigeria but he is good at what he does. That term is relative. There are other good lawyers as well. In this wise, no lawyer can be referred to as the best lawyer in Nigeria.

Absolutely he is the best among the rest. Only recently his son became youngest lawyer to bag SAN. What else to add is that by extension Yoruba remain best and in vanguard when the issue of legal practice is concerned. Evidence are bound to back up the claim

I had a one-time experience with him. personally. 2008 or thereabout.
Went for an interview in his office on Norman Williams, Ikoyi for the position of a Front desk officer.
We were about 20 applicants. he personally interviewed all of us.
He had asked the staff to give each of us 5k after the interview.
As were leaving, I got mine. It was as if he had a foresight i was broke. On my way home, I blessed him & d chamber.
Didn't get the job though cos i only had OND & was even yet to get my certificate.
I bet the lucky applicant will be joyous. i envy him/her
God bless Mr Wole Olaonipekun
God bless Wole Olaonipekun & Co.
God bless Nigeria
