The last paragraph showed that he is a no good drunkard.

Sometimes he drinks and smokes because of lack of family care. Unrepentant drunkard.

bullshot!

if he was a good father and loving husband, his family would not have deserted him.
He was probably the type that would beat his wife and provide nothing for his children. Lot of military men are like that. I have no pity for him cos he wasted his youth and ended under the bridge. NOT MY FAULT, NOT MY HEADACHE!

p.s.
you don't need money to be a good husband and a loving father.
u can be the poorest man in the world and show immense care and dedication to your family.

Its because of people like you that's why this man is suffering. sad
Why did you say that? With his service number, he should be able to request a new ID and didn't have to suffer because he lost a common ID.

That's in a civilised society it's not so easy in Nigeria. Remember this man's record is most likely not on any database systems. It would entail opening old files that might even have been destroyed or lost.
My dad had a similar issue as a retired foreign office. So I can relate

You're right. I wish a ministry can be created specifically for setting up databases for the entire country, and the contents of all old files stored in them. Even if not at the federal level, I wish a state can set the pace and watch others follow.

My dear our people say when u see an old man carrying heavy loads on his head, right hand and also left hand just know he did not spend his youthful days well...
You have a point.
My father inlaw was a poor man but the most loving father.. I see it in the way my husband treats our kids. He would always say my father used to do this for me and my brothers.
Today God has blessed his children and he is even complaining that they care for him too much!

Lets use the interesting power of social media to make a difference in this man's life. Not Just for the sake of it but to show that we can use Nairaland to achieve good things.

These are his words:
I do not have money to rent any house again. I want the government to help me. I do not have any sickness. I am not taking any injection. I only need help,” he added.

We can change his story. We can use him as a starting point for expressing the power to do good that we wield as a people of social media.

My recommendation is simple.
We start out an old folks home with him as the first member. There are loads of old folks like him suffering with no family to turn to.
All we need is to rent a place and provide the basics for living. We get volunteers from churches & mosques to take care of these folks and provide the care they need.

It would cost a lot. Probably a couple hundreds of thousands. With collaboration, we can raise whatever is required. If 1000 if us put up 1k each, we would have 1m already. And that would go more than a long way.

I don't know if I am making any sense but I am pretty passionate about using the collaborative power of social media to achieve good in society. And I feel we can start out with any story. And this old man's story is a good one.

If you think this is possible, show support by commenting and sharing your ideas on how to achieve this.

For me, for every like this post gets, I will be giving 200 Naira towards this old man's welfare. That is 200 Naira let like. 20,000 Naira for 100 likes. And yes, 200,000 for 1000 likes. And I mean every word if it.

End time long boring post

yes he is. The old man should be able to remember his service number, atleast after so many years of service, ID is irelevant.

Subsequently the pension office should be able to recognise him anyway since he has been there numerous times

but he has the strenght to drink, mr man you most likely come from a stable home.

i have seen first hand what unstable fathers do to families. note i am not referring to fathers who arent rich, am talking of fathers who arent rich and still act as a source of embarasement to the family. guy as you said what normal family would leave thier father in his 80s to stay on the streets. he chose that life i am very sure,

family probably said choose between this life and us and he chose.
