@vanpeele: Finally Mr. Chairman what about watering /irrigation. When should one water the plant? quantity of water needed? and frequency. Thanks a lot |
Re: My Successful Cucumber Sack Farm In Kaduna by vanpeele: 7:55pm On Feb 06, 2016 |
ABHAKS: I water manually everyday (enough to make the entire soil moist not waterlogged). Drip irrigation will be the best if you have the funds. |

@ vanpele, the fetilizer application will it be in liquid form or solid form when applying? The reason for the question is that the plant is inside sack, just looking at the possibility of the application. |

ABHAKS: Yes but try not spraying inside the flower. Spray the leaves and the tiny cucumber. This is what I usually do to prevent the cucurbit fly since they go straight for the little cucumber. |

Sorry for the hiatus. The only solution to the Fulani problem is soldiers...For now they've stayed clear of my farm (because Sojo brush them die). Anyways, I'm hoping to harvest tomorrow or next. I also have cucumbers in ground (for Easter). I'll be posting their pictures too. |

@vanpeele, I am so proud of what you are doing. Keep it up. Here are a few additional innovations I will suggest to make the results even better. 1. Nursery the seeds in a seed tray for 2 weeks before transplanting to the bags. This will address the issue of attacks on the first emerging leafs by small animals. It will also reduce initial attacks by white flies. 2. Make irrigation out of perforated PVC pipes ( Do it yourself using half inch pipes) The PVC pipes will be perforated at the points where the bags are positioned. 3. Do hand pollinatin. Pluck the male flowers, remove the petals, use the remaining anther to touch the female flowers. You can also do this with a soft toothbrush or artist brush. 2 Likes 1 Share

Didn't harvest today because I had some pressing issues like pesticide application. I planted 2 batches of Cucumber, on the 9th and 23rd of January. It's not as lush as those in the sack but they look good. We still manual irrigate them. There are only two sack farmers currently in northern Nigeria. Yours truly and ishaqteejay. Took some pics of his farm. Do enjoy the show. 1 Share

Today was a very good day. I harvested from all the sacks and got 6 bags. The other varieties weren't up to par but I thank the ALMIGHTY. Sold them all at the farm at 5k each. I've been smiling ever since. #SackFarm #SackTeam 7 Likes 1 Share

No harvests yet but someone suggested I upload our sweet and Irish potato experiment. So far so good. They were planted in December. I can't recall the exact date. We planted both varieties in one sack. The sweet has overshadowed the Irish.
