I think not really age matter. Benin Obas are not seen too publicly. It has always been so.
Oba Erediauwa became Oba at age 55. Not exactly old age for an athletic person. Even then he was seen rarely.

Also in Benin, Obas are born as one and invested officially as crown prince/Edaiken on maturity and moves into the crown prince's palace at Uselu. That can last decades depending on longevity of current Oba. Pretty much like the crown prince becomes invested as Prince of Wales and Prince of Asturia on maturity, in England & Spain respectively.

As crown prince, the Edaiken often travels everywhere, representing his dad and would have seen everything before even becoming King. When he becomes Oba, he becomes far less visible/available publicly.

Whereas, with elected Obas/Emirs, it comes suddenly & slightly overwhelming. He has to start totally afresh, doing all these visits.

Not true, you can prostrate to the king outside his palace. But we are talking of the president of Nigeria here, he prostrates to no king even if he visited them in their palace. IBB, OBJ, GEJ etc never did prostrate on visits to kings palaces.
