I was discussing with a friend yesterday generally on the state of the Nigeria economy and the fight against corruption, when our talk got to the Tompolo case at the Lagos High court. It became clear to me that the main reason tompolo is avoiding appearing in court is the fact that any person whose case is taking to court these days is automatically confirmed guilty by the public until proven innocent by the court, which is yet to occur.

The cases of ex-governor of jigawa state sule lamido comes to mind, not forgetting that of olisa metuh, dasuki, nnamdi kalu, emeka mba, to mention but a few.
None of the above persons has been convicted by any court on the charges filed against them, but to us (nigerians) they are all guilty as charged.

As the date draws near for tompolo to appear in court, I have no doubt in my mind that he will still not be present in court, as he knows too well that once he steps his feet in that court he would kiss his freedom goodbye. Because he will definately be remanded in efcc custody and that will be the begining of an aweful and long trial for him. His trial will be dramatised in the media, while those who wants him locked up for life will do anything possible to crusify him on the social media not just for the fact that he is guilty as charged, but due to hatred for the role he played during the niger delta militancy agitation and for wielding much power and influence during the time of Gej's administration.

The ex-NIMASA boss and others standing trial along side tompolo are just there to garnish the main course which is sending tompolo to jail. I am not against him facing trial if need be, i just want fair trial and justice without fear or favour being depensed at every level.

As at today, integrity, justice, rule of law and due process has been redefined in this coutry. Right from the top (federal government) to the general public everyone seem to be confuse on what to do, and this is having great impact on the economy and even fight against boko haram and corruption.
