It was nothing short of a melodrama at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, yesterday, between State House correspondents and the Federal Government over the many foreign trips of President Muhammadu Buhari during a press briefing.
Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information, who justified the trips, said they were necessary to bring the country back on the track of development and growth. According to him, Nigeria was a pariah state under former President Goodluck Jonathan.

He said that under Jonathan’s watch, corruption permeated the country, such that foreign investors deserted it. He stated that it was necessary to tell Nigerians that the trips had started paying off since investors’ confidence in the country had been restored. Mohammed spoke during a press briefing at the end of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting in Abuja. He said: “You do not run a country by being isolated. The personal presence of Mr. President in many of these fora is important because before now, we were almost a pariah state.

Journalists had waited patiently to be briefed on the outcome of the Federal Executive Meeting, FEC, which routinely meets to take decision on matters of government. As usual, yesterday’s meeting was chaired by president Buhari with his vice, professor Yemi Osinabjo and most of the 36 ministers in attendance. By a little after midday, the meeting had ended with the Minister of Information, Mr. Lai Mohammed, his counterpart in Environment, Amina Mohammed in company with Minister of State for Environment, Usman Ibrahim come into the press gallery inside the villa to brief Journalists. The briefing was reduced to a two item issue: Climate change and President’s many foreign trips so far, anchored by the Minister of Environment.

Done with the briefing, journalists felt that there were more pressing issues at the moment such as the fall of Naira and 2016 budget, amongst others which an important body as FEC should have dwelt on other than reviewing or deliberating on climate change.

Apparently surprised by the insistence and probing question, Information Minister Mohammed, said he was embarrassed and shocked, noting that Nigerians needed to know the benefits of the presidential trips.

Meanwhile, Vanguard learned that President Buhari is due for more foreign trips on Friday and early next week. He is likely to leave Abuja on Friday for Egypt, return on Saturday and leave for Saudi Arabia and Qatar early next week.

Shame on APC.

Lie Mohammed said: “You do not run a country by being isolated. The personal presence of Mr. President in many of these fora is important because before now, we were almost a pariah state. And the issues that have been driving investments away from this country are terrorism and corruption".

A pariah state (also called an international pariah or a global pariah) is a nation considered to be an outcast in the international community. A pariah state may face international isolation, sanctions or even an invasion by nations who find its policies, actions, or its very existence unacceptable. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pariah_state

Russian President Vladimir Putin has faced increasing international pressure in the aftermath of the downing of a Malaysia Airlines plane over eastern Ukraine. British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond warned that if Mr. Putin continues his "obfuscation and obstruction" about the crash, "Russia risks becoming a pariah state."

How can Nigeria be a 'Periah State'

Alhaji Lie Mohammed's many unfounded statements will hunt him and APC now and in the near future.

You can only deceive few, but not all, and not all the time. Misplaced priority, that's what l call it. A hungry man can not be satisfied with a University admission letter. Neither can a disgruntled employee based on salary be motivated by a transfer to a new air-conditioned office apartment.

But the problem here is that their followers will always find a reason to appreciate the 'wrongest' step they take. All this biased support inform their continuous anti people decisions.

An important body as FEC prioritized climate change over Nigeria's crippled economy (fall of Naira) and 2016 scam budget they manufactured and presented to the senate for approval?

We don't have money but Buhari is travelling everywhere and spending the little we have.
Or does he think that the expenses on these trips have no economic implication? These foreign trips cost a lot.

Very soon Nigeria may have to borrow money to fund Buhari's Global Tour Initiative.

"He said that under Jonathan's watch corruption permeated the country such that foreign investors deserted it"

Another BIG LIE from lie himself, Goodluck Jonathan was able to attract many foreign investors to Nigeria; Toyota, Nissan, Kia and many other automobile industries built their assembly plant in Nigeria under GEJ.

It's your government that am yet to see to attract a single foreign investor upon all the travel PMB is making, nothing to show for it.

Your problem is, you don't think before talking

"Nigerians should prevail on President Buhari to stay at home and govern the country, "it is the height of insensitivity to the plight of Nigerians that the president, who just returned from trips to France and United Kingdom, would again be traveling to Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Qatar from February 20 to 27, spending seven days out of the country in what they called “three-nation tour.”

“it is worrisome that President Buhari does not have any economic team and there is no policy direction yet, despite spending close to nine months in office.”

I disagreed on this part of isolation, some Nations and regimes have been isolated in the past and they made avery ttremendous impact in the lives of their citizens and country,Libya, Cuba,Nigeria under Gen Abacha made a very tremendous impact on stability, dollar was at two digit naira throughout to his demise,Libyans blossomed during Gadaffi, even if you relocate to the mars, without putting your acts together, is as useless as useless itself.

Did Lai just say that investors left during Jonathan's tenure?
He thinks he can fool everybody all the time.

We started loosing Investors the moment Buhari came onboard and took a long time to let people know his policy direction. He ran the country alone for months without any sense of direction. And you expect investors to stay?
Come on, they are not stu.pid.

Let Buhari go anywhere he feels like. His presence in ask rock is even worse. Nigeria is on autopilot and the hostesses are the useless aids and ministers that are completely incompetent, liars, and corruption personified.
bubu is just anything but a president. Shame

If the useless president was an inch brilliant and learns one or two things from his trips, it'll be understandable. But this brainless old dullard knows or learns nothing from his trips. He just junkets for the fun of it. Tufiakwa, Buharu is a disgrace to the word "change".

->Buhari has immediate pressing issues that need correction but he would rather travel at any given opportunity than send representatives for these trips.
->I am not even bothered because Nigeria seem to be on autopilot even when "Mr Integrity" is in the country, his impact is not felt at all.
