Hello house,

I am a final year medical student graduating in May this year. I am considering going to the US for a graduate program. I have been having difficulties in choosing whether I should go for Masters or PHD. As a medical doctor, which would you advice I go for?

Secondly, my propose field is either in public health, community health or environmental health. In fact, any health related graduate program would suffice.

Would any of you be so kind to provide me with a list of schools that I can apply to that guarantees funding? I've a pretty good GPA, would be taking my GRE next week. Any tips?

N.B. I am currently in the US, Kansas city to be precise. I am here for an elective program in one of the hospitals.

Far from arrogance just educate me mbok cheesy

I might advise that if you can't even take the time to research the different regions of the country, then you definitely haven't put enough research into which school you are choosing. Don't bother with the visa interview.

Getting a masters or PhD depends on what you want to do with your career...
If you plan to go on being a doctor - like actually working with patients - then it would just be better to specialize. PhDs are researchers.

A very close friend lives in Milwaukee, it's bloody cold up there in Wisconsin with temperatures of negative Fahrenheit.
The only colder states I can think of are maybe North Dakota, Minnesota, Montana, Maybe Maine/Vermont.

But yeah Wisconsin definitely ranks up there. I can't believe someone compared the weather up there with the south. That's plain ignorance.

That guy is a troll don't feed him.

If he is really a student, he should have some degree of intelligence. And if that is the case, he should be able to look at a map. The further you get from the equator (i.e. north) the colder it gets...

And these are the same people that cry on Nairaland when they get refused visas because their stories don't make any sense!

Good day all,
please i need either a present student or Alumni of Murray state University, Kenturky to give me detail information about the school, the state, including the weather condition and the environment the school is located.

NOTE: 've made some findings on google and the international admission department. But just need 1st hand information from someone who has been a student from the school.

Please I need clarification about US boarder.
In the process of applying for visa one of my uncles who stay in Atlanta gave me invitation.
My concern is I'm going to Texas first to see my immediate brother before going to Atlanta to meet my uncle, I want to know the implication of such action at the US entry border.
Thank you.

You have brother and uncle in Obamaland that you will visit.
You will need to show and prove VERY, VERY strong ties to return home or it is likely that you will be rejected as potential over-stayer.
Do not even think of point of entry problems until you get these sorted out.

I think he has gotten the visa from what I understand but he wants to know his fate at the port of entry.

I don't know about B1 visa but if like the F1, he needs to be able to state correctly where he's heading and his final destination.

If that is the case he needs to get a good, true story clear in his head.
At the moment he is unclear and that will show to the point of entry officer who has absolute power to grant, or refuse, entry.

I already have the visa "B1, B2" but just want to be sure of the point of entry officer like you said "entry point officer has absolute power to grant, or refuse entry"
Though an immigration lawyer said it doesn't matter that you can come in through any state.
Though I have travelled severally to UK but never been to US that is why I'm seeking more knowledge before taking final decision.
Than you.

Dear Friends and Gurus,

I urgently need help with a candid advice. i have not really been following this tread but i bow for gurus here.

I started applying for USA graduate schools in Oct 2015. I wanted to resume in Jan 2016-Spring, so i only targeted schools with very late application deadlines.

I did all the GRE, TOEFL and VISA interview stuffs and succeeded getting admission in 3 schools.
1. UALR- University of Arkansas at Little Rock - Phd (Integrated computing)
2. SIUE- Southern Illinois University Edwardsville - MSc (computer science)
3. UNO - University of Nebraska, Omaha - Msc (Management Information Systems-MIS)

The decision from UALR came so quick so i presented their i20 at the embassy and got the visa. Though i preferred the MIS course at UNO, but they did not decide on time. I Applied for funding in UALR but didn't get anything. Also some old naija folks at the school strongly discouraged me from coming..Finally, my admission at UNO clicked on Jan 6, I got into US on Jan 8th and decided to transfer from UALR to UNO. The transfer went pretty easy and i flew to Omaha.

On arriving here, i discovered the situation here was worse than i ever imagine, even though i got the course i wanted to study, i couldn't get any funding, tuition is very high, black population here is negligible, and the cold here na die. I have not figured out how i will pay the tuition yet, but i pray i will scale through this semester.

I plan to complete one semester and transfer to another school. Which school can i get guaranteed Graduate Assistant ship or funding?
If i loose my status in this school(i don't pray for that-worst case scenario), can i possibly apply afresh again in another school since i am already in the usa?
Who knows the possibility of transferring credits from Management Information Systems to a course like electrical engineering?

Any valuable input will be most appreciated. Thank you

I will not judge the poster I just quoted, but I hope folks trying to come over will take a cue from his/her experience. America is not running away, let us take doses of chill pills when we are making life decisions. If funding no dey the offer, no reason am, at all! Guys, always, always, try to get funding; even if anyone is telling you not to worry, still, try to apply for funding. You do not want to be stranded or depressed in America. Good luck to everyone.
