Nijagobeta:1. Read Femi Aribisala's piece in detail for more insight. 2. Buhari's policy on Forex that limits BDC operations without considering CBN's capacity in meeting demand for foreign currencies. The scramble for dollar crumbs at the BDCs is the major causative factor for the Naira free falls. 3. Lifting of embargo on rice and textile importation amongst others. This is a misdirected policy that has further increased demand for forex. 4. A direction-less economic roadmap that scares away investors who would have pumped more foreign currencies into the local market. This is further compounded by our President's penchant for labeling Nigeria as a corrupt nation. No investor would put his money where ROI is threatened. 5. Let other Nairalanders make their additions. |

Nijagobeta:I don't hate Buhari, after all, he's my president but I hate the work of his hands. Moreover, from your post ,do you think you really possess that coveted commonsense? |

RisingSun1:If she like let her have 20 international appointments, it doesn't change the fact that she failed in managing our economy during oil windfall. What did she and the fg leave behind in the SWF? What did the FG do with her own share (55%) of the ECA that was shared? Were the governors wrong to ask for the money to be shared when each time they got to meeting they discovered that the account had been depleted without their knowledge and approval? Despite selling crude above average of $100 a barrel, Ngozi and GEJ had to resort to borrowing to pay FG workers salaries in March and April 2015, yet you think she was the best thing to happen to Nigeria since independence? Abeg, swerve. |

I'm not an apc or pdp supporter but the truth is that this government has been in power long enough for us to see change. Even if things are not getting better, things should not get worse. Everybody is playing safe. Nobody wants to invest anymore cos nobody can guess what tomorrow will look life. Nigerians are really suffering. |

Aside subsidy and all else, our public sector needs to be revisited. We have too many public servants, ministries and agencies set up to do nothing and at the end of the month, the 'so xalled' workers that don't actually do any work expect to be paid. That's just madness. If you expect to be paid, then you must be doing some sort of work which adds value and/or revenue to your agency/ministry. Nigeria can no longer afford to hand out free salary because one is a civil servant. This is another avenue of leakage that needs plugging off. |

[b]Mr. Soludo said the government of Mr. Jonathan lacks excuse for its woeful performance since it inherited a relatively robust economy and also enjoyed years of oil boom. He said instead of building on that outlay, the Jonathan government not only depleted foreign reverses, but increased Nigeria’s debt yet again, without adding a “penny” to the reserves. Mr. Soludo, a former chief economic adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo, said in his estimation, if the economy had been well managed during the years of oil boom, Nigeria should have raked in a minimum of $102bn as foreign reserves, and would have cut unemployment and maintained exchange rate at N112 per dollar. “For comparisons, President Obasanjo met about $5 billion in foreign reserves, and the average monthly oil price for the 72 months he was in office was $38, and yet he left $43 billion in foreign reserves after paying $12 billion to write-off Nigeria’s external debt. In the last five years, the average monthly oil price has been over $100, and the quantity also higher but our foreign reserves have been declining and exchange rate depreciating. “My calculation is that if the economy was better managed, our foreign reserves should have been between $102 –$118 billion and exchange rate around N112 before the fall in oil prices. As of now, the reserves should be around $90 billion and exchange rate no higher than N125 per dollar,” he said. There are many renowned PhD holders in Nigeria who can perform better than Kemi's Bsc and Dr. Ngozi's PhD. We need not recycle mediocrity. |

Soludo grades Jonathan “F” on economy; says his administration the worst ever “My advice to President Jonathan and his handlers is to stop wasting their time trying to campaign on his job record. Those who have decided to vote for him will not do so because he has taken Nigeria to the moon. His record on the economy is a clear ‘F’ grade,” Mr. Soludo said. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/175663-soludo-grades-jonathan-f-economy-says-administration-worst-ever.html |
