A friend of mine just shared this with me and still compiling more infos and the breakdown will be posted here.

I suggest all sellers still on the platform should either shutdown there store or get ready for the worst .

I felt for the jumia staffs because ,each day.all they think about is one leg in and one leg out.this is bad. .I heard a lot about this company brutal unquestionable policies.

Jumia is the most worst E-commerce in Nigeria. They spend heavily in adverts just to get huge traffic .

The company management is nothing to write home about .

Few days ago.my friend revealed how this company delisted over 3000 Merchants/sellers denying them access all access including access to their statement for orders shipped while manipulating the account from backend.

He claim the company never send email to any of them and they didn't even know the reason why and what was actually going on till date.he claim some Merchants have goods worth millions pending returns for 5 month ranging for laptops projectors .air conditions fashion and large expensive items .most of the said Merchants are now indebted and company doesn't even care.

Possible reason for delisting according to him was caused by Jumia lack of experience in the E-commerce world which they have failed to admit because of poor management .he said Jumia claim they get huge cancelled orders .most Merchants have adjusted their prices few months ago due to the current exchange rate in purchasing goods but Jumia fail to implement it from backend forcing new orders to come in at the old price leaving sellers in jeopardy and most won't bother to ship such goods to avoid loss .
This has led to delisting of the affected Merchants .Now in a world where E-commerce shop is pay on delivery .policies are meant to be but to some extend considering the state of the economy .how can you keep thousands of your Merchants goods worth millions for months without returning and even when return most will be damaged .most of the Merchants borrowed money from Bank to run their business.

Now after using them to generate profit.you dimp them and deny them access to their store because you think you can always register new Merchants who will not be aware of your bad policies and also use and dump them as well . .this is bad.

I have warned my friend and some other affected Merchants to inform others to stay away from this platform before they regret it later .he is on other platform and claim konga is the best among them all .he claim Jumia has no regard for their merchants whom are responsible for staffs salaries and keeping the company running .

If their is anyone who is facing such harsh treatment from this Jumia platform. Share your experience either good or bad so that others can learn .

@ Op... You should have just told us that you came to run Jumia down rather than distorting facts to deceive the gullible.

We are front line patrons of all the major ecommerce stores, giving us much insight into their operations.

Is it true that Jumia has issues with returns? A resounding yes! But over the last few months, there has been appreciable progress in the speed of returns and we expect that it will keep getting better. Because Ecommerce is being deployed in a Nigerian environment without the right infrastructure, it is pretty challenging for the early pioneers such as Jumia and Konga to overcome these basic challenges.

Is it true that merchants were recently delisted? Another YES! But you are wrong to insinuate that the merchants don't know the cause. Infact, you even went on to raise cancellations as the reason for the delisting... and that's the reason right there! How can a merchant fail to ship over 50% of orders received over a period? Eventually these orders are cancelled creating a lot of customer dissatisfaction. Besides, does it occur to you that Jumia spends money on advertising in order to generate these orders? Why should a seller list an item for sale, Jumia brings in the order and then the seller refuses to ship the item? Who loses money spent on promotions? Whose reputation is damaged?

Anyway, your position is forgivable because you are working on hearsay. Tell your friend to work on his survey and just maybe Jumia may find him suitable to continue a relationship with.

@maxxy ,I am not here to argue with as I just confirmed that all what you said were lies. As a Jumia staff , I expect you to be biased .

How can you say you sent email to Merchants to notify them about delisting and reasons when you never did .how do you expect most of them to know .

If you have ever run a business in your life and put huge funds running to millions in it and even borrowed money .you partnered with a company and you have returns of unsuccessfully delivered items running to millions waiting for 5 good months and you are aware the bank is on your azzssss.now tell me when eventually part of the goods arrived 5month after and came damaged and you are sure the company won't be responsible in most cases for damaged goods.

How will you survive.....without going bankrupt .now tell me .if you are in that situation as a merchant .will you even have the urge to drop more items when you have new orders .

I repeat this .I have heard from some other Merchants close to my friend and they have all confirmed that the said Jumia lacks business ethics and all suggest they should emulate other reliable E-commerce platform if they want to remain in the eccomerce world.

You mentioned survey .and this is for only few gullible sellers who will never learn and still shows interest due to greediness .many of them still claims the company fails them despite answering all questions correctly.you go out there and find out from Merchants in Allen.

I put it to you that your company harsh policies will ruin them eventually ,denying people access to there money claiming they were delisted thereby manipulating the statement from backend. Sacking staffs anyhow for no reason because you know this is Nigeria and unemployment rate is high and you feel you can always employ new staff.ruining so many businesses due to your lack of business ethics .you should have caught a case for all the accusations if some of the affected merchants only knew that they have a case against you.

I am sure soon. Some will come here to comment and when I get more infos I won't hesitate to reply .

@ OP... I appreciate the fact that you did not come here to argue. However, to completely diss Jumia without having the full facts of the issues on ground is rather unfair.

Let me first disabuse your mind as to my being a Jumia staff or mole on NL. Fact is I am not. I do not aspire to that... not now and hopefully not ever.

Like I said earlier, I am an ecommerce stakeholder having stores across all the major ecommerce platforms as well as my own online store. I run my own business and understand perfectly the issues these merchants are having. For example, the returns issue is a longstanding one and it affects all the ecommerce stores, but most especially those that undertake the order delivery aspect like Jumia does. I can also tell you that it was much worse in the past but steadily improving. Do I still have issues with them? A resounding Yes! But we are all in this for the long term and have to keep pushing for things to improve. Thus, calling for a merchant boycott or de-marketing the company is not the answer, rather as a merchant, you have to seek to understand what the issues are and plan your strategies accordingly.

If Jumia is failing these merchants that are your friends, why are they still willing to do business with Jumia by participating in the survey? You call it greed, but the truth is that they know on the overall, Jumia is good for their business hence they want to get back in! Ask those your merchants in Allen how much they are selling from their physical shops on a daily basis and compare it with the sales they are making on Jumia. I can guarantee you that their sales on Jumia beat their offline sales by far!

In addition, Jumia has not denied merchants access to their suspended accounts. I know because I know people affected. So they can still process pending orders before the suspension as well as track their orders and receive payments. Nobody can manipulate your pending payments from back-end and get away with it, particularly as each merchant has records of all items dropped off at their warehouse. So you can easily tell what you have received payment for and what is pending.

On the staff issue... if you have ever been to Jumia's warehouse and corporate office, you would know that they are overstaffed for the volume of business they are doing. Moreover, with the current economic downturn for most people and companies, orders are not dropping like before and they have to cut costs. Companies in all sectors of the economy are downsizing and even other major ecommerce players have laid off a larger proportion of their staff compared with Jumia.

In the final analysis, your friends know they are better off with Jumia than on their own. My advice would be that they review their strategy. Determine what items suffer the most returns and reduce the listings of those items, while also taking their own steps to promote the platform. Badmouthing the platform will not augur well for either the merchants or Jumia itself.

1. Return period for orders - Still unacceptable and the most touchy issue for merchants

2. Drop-off Policy - Jumia has scaled down its pickup service and opened more dropoff locations, probably because it was costly and they couldn't reach many sellers. How do you pick up orders from over 5,000 stores daily? Simply unworkable looking at the big picture. Drop-off is a more sustainable policy.

3. Must Deliver by Jumia - This is one of the critical success factors keeping Jumia as number 1 in customers' choice of where to order, particularly those that buy multiple items at the same time. This policy allows Jumia operate a shopping cart and significantly lowers shipping cost for the customer as against paying separate fee for each order, particularly when buying from multiple merhants.

Oga ur defense of their policies isn't the point ere, u are entitled to your opinion, so I am, as said, I sell on other platforms eg konga, etc and I know the clear difference, if we are to carry out a survey am sure they would know merchants consider most of their policies too tough and not helping business, anyways as said earlier it's my opinion, wasn't calling out for a defense. Thanks

This discussion need not be about accusations and defenses, but about brainstorming how to make the best of a not too pleasant or favourable situation. Our mindset is always that if public policies benefit some people and are a disadvantage to others, those disadvantaged should seek the keys to making the policies work in their advantage. Lamenting about the situation or lampooning other stakeholders would not produce any positive result.

For example, Konga seems to be working for you, yet you won't surf far on this business section before you find merchants that are ridiculing Konga's system. If Konga was not working for us, our next action would be to find out why and then how it can, since it is working for some! But thankfully, Konga is working for us, Jumia is working for us.

Peace.

No need posting ordeals. Its a free world. Everyone's experience will never be the same. For me and my business, my opinion is that jumia is not a company that knows the value of merchants. Until they come to the realization of that the fact that they need merchants to survive and not the other way round, they will continue to struggle.

I don't know how to write epistle or too much English but @op I disagree with you on the returns, the returns service has improved and you always get notified via email or text on the day you should come for them, concerning delisting, I have a friend who runs two stores and both were suspended, why? Low orders, high cancellation, late shipment but he can still login, process pending orders and he still got paid ...There is no organisation without its issues or challenges ...

all what you said were lies, another staff here to defend those cowards, as you can see more merchants are coming here to express their ordeals and we will keep this thread alive. then at the end, we shall see the total number of good and bad comments. your company do things in indians style and always think they can get away with it. you can see a comment above you ,merchants delisted without notification, they use and dump merchants and staffs, register new ones, lure them and deceive them that they can grow their store, once they discover that those new merchants got fed up and complain too much about delayed returns, damaged goods, and even return and refund on items purchased by buyers who will call and tell lies in most cases just to get their money back without notifying sellers, after few months again, they dump the new merchants giving useless and baseless excuses that there were low shipment and many cancelled orders and other useless excuse. ,staffs getting sacked even when they are performing., lawless environment . no good reputable organization will do such.

even on konga as i heard, they suspend merchants for cancelled orders but within 24hours, once you call or email them, your store get restored. none of the jumia merchants that were suspended got their store restored. i heard they send them useless surveys and purposely failed them all because they want to eradicate these merchants. too bad.

Re: Shocking !!! How Jumia Nigeria Online E-commerce Use -Dump Merchants And Staffs by tinukas: 11:08pm On Feb 29, 2016
Jumia is the worst e-commerce to do business with....i am a seller on the platform and i noticed that price changes over the last month took an average of 2 weeks to get approved, alot of orders were coming in at the old prices.
1. Price changes used to be done within minutes, it is done on the seller center and it takes about 5 mins for the changes to show on the website, but lately this has not been the case, once you make a price change it takes about 2 weeks, i had an item that was had a status of delivery failed, item was added to warehouse stock but not active on their website
2. With the new return policy, where they keep the item in their warehouse...this is a SCAM!!!!! i sent out an item worth almost 75k during black friday sales, within 1 week, item was marked as delivery failed, come Jan. item was not added to my warehouse stock, sent several emails, called, no-response, items that i sent out after this order was already added to my warehouse stock, come feb. i started emailing again, i got a response that my account will be credited for the amount of the item within 3-5 days, 5 days past item was not credited...starting emailing again, finally money was credited, but no one was able to give me a concrete answer on why the items was marked as delivery failed but yet paid for by Jumia. i have still have orders that were sent out as back as Sept, no updates, even items from black friday sales that were marked as delivery failed and the wheareabouts unknown, i was asked to come and pick up some returns, but they are still yet to return about 6 items and my warehouse stock is not updated/
3. Lack of communication is another big issue i have with Jumia...you send an email, they are quick to mark the item as solved, without even reaching out to the merchant, you send email no response.
4. Lastly i got an email, that they are planning to increase commission, this is ridiculous, commission for my product category will be increased to 20% from 15%. With this increase how much will the merchants make? just for listing products on their site, it is not worth it anymore.
