@ vjay

I can see by your posts that you are very familiar with most Neutrogena beauty products. Pls i want to know, How effective is the Neutrogena age shield sunblock? Is it an all body lotion i mean can i use it on my face? If i can't then what product of Neutrogena is very good for the face? Pls kindly recommend the one that is good and have spf. Thanks
Re: Best Skin Lightening/toning Soap by yjay(f): 3:41pm On Jun 17, 2009
@uzwu their products are fantastic & reasonably priced too! for the age shield sunblock, it defends the skin against the UVA & UVB rays & thats what a good sunscreen should do so i definitely think its a good buy! i think u can use it on ur face & body!!! dont think its meant for a particular part of the body cos i used to use the ultra sheer dry-touch for my face as well as my neck, chest & arms before i started using a different facial moisturizer & the sheer dry touch for my body! so if you re thinking of doing that Neutrogena's healthy skin & visibly even range are impressive & most of them ve have spf in them!

@tessybaby dont buy makari! i personally think its too harsh & there's a lot of fake so there is every possibility that ur friend cld end up burning her skin!

I have been using the Neutrogena transparent bar and clean and clear for my face and neck but i am yet to see results. I Wouldn't mind if you recommend a good soap as well. Thanks in anticipation.

Re: Best Skin Lightening/toning Soap by jumissy: 12:13am On Jul 31, 2009
I think the problem is that many black people living outside the United States are not educated about protecting their skin/skin color. My natural skin complexion is golden caramel. When I lived in Nigeria it became pecan brown. Then I moved to the US and I regained my natural complexion, especially during the fall/winter season here when it's cooler. Over the years as I went out in the sun here in the US and did not use sunscreen (b/c to my family it's as if sunscreen is only for white people), I became darker, especially in the summer heat. About three years ago, I started using Clear Essence Body Complexion Creme to try to regain my natural complexion and to even out some dark areas. This creme contained 2% hydroquinone which is generally the over-the-counter allowance considered safer here. It really worked to lighten my skin but after a few months my skin redarkened even more than before, even though I used sunscreen. And as with any products for skin lightening, or even bleaching, sunscreen is a must! The higher the spf number on the sunscreen, the better to protect from UVA and UVB rays. I noticed that many people have said that hydroquinone products makes the skin redarken after a while, too. And if I should have any blemish, it will only darken it more than when I was not using the Clear Essence. I have read that this redarkening is due to the hydroquinone. PLEASE, DO NOT USE PRODUCTS WITH HYDROQUINONE. It is the leading ingredient, with high concentration, in skin bleaching products.

We have to get used to reading the labels and ingredients on the products we use for our skin. ALSO, products that make the skin to redarken easily in the sun are any products with PETROLATUM or MINERAL OIL (and it's so sad because many of us grew up using vaseline! - because it is cheap!) Many lotions, I was surprised to see the other day I went to the store to look for a good moisturizer, contain petrolatum or mineral oil - because its cheaper for the company to use. Petrolatum and mineral oil not only make the skin get darker in the sun, but in the long run it is not healthy for the skin - it only provides a temporary relief acting as if it moisturizes the skin. I stopped using the products with hydroquinone when I found out that it is toxic and can damage the liver. It is only recommended for use for no more than 3 months and then it must be stopped. In Europe all products with hydroquinone are banned - illegal because of its dangerous effect on people - toxicity damage to the liver and ochronosis.

Well, then I thought how do I regain my natural skin complexion if I can't use even the 2% hydroquinone product? I did my research thoroughly and found some products that work and also have a longer effect than products with hydroquinone. ALL NATURAL lightening products. How else would the celebrities do it? Do you really think they will use dangerous toxic chemicals on their body?! The best natural product is KOJIC ACID. It has been so effective! I use the papaya kojic acid soap. There are also the the licorice extract soap, the glutathione soap, and their lotions and creams. Using the soap and the lotion and/or cream will give maximum results. There are also glutathione pills, but I don't like taking pills, so I prefer using soap and lotion, which is like your regular daily routine, anyway. No hassel.

ALWAYS use sunscreen at the very least one with spf 30 several times a day! (The higer spf, the better)
Avoid the sun as much as possible. Wear loose, long sleeve clothin, wide brim hats, and sunglasses if necessary.
The products I currently use above are exfoliating products and can dry the skin, a very intensive moisturizer (without petrolatum/mineral oil) would be helpful.

AND I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH! - DRINK LOTS AND LOTS OF WATER!!!
Forget the juices and sugar beverages. If you don't like drinking water, DRINK IT! You will get used to it.

The first thing you need to use, which no one has mentioned is:
SPF 45
Use something to protect you from the sun which is damaging

One tested and trusted product with both kojic acid and licorice extract is DR (daggett and ramsdell) lightening soap and milk. It works.

YOUR BEST BET FOR SUPER-DUPER GLOWING SKIN!!!

Clarins Renew-Plus Night Lotion - use as specified and you will naturally lighten within three weeks, regardless of extent of damage. It is completely plant based and will heal your skin even below the top layer. I would advise that you use pears transparent soap or any nature based soap to wash your face, and use a cleanser that suits your skin (Clinique clarifying cleanser will do, just pick the number right for your skin)
Re: Best Skin Lightening/toning Soap by pretts(f): 2:47pm On Dec 10, 2009
I think the problem is not with the products but with being able to get the original products.

Clean & clear and neutrogena are very good product range but its really difficult to get the original in Nigeria, guess the solution's to buy from the well known stores or get someone who travels abroad to get them for you and not in the markets, that way,you are assured of buying the real thing.

@olovezej,pls whr can i get the Daggett & ramsdell product you recommended in Nigeria?I have been looking for products containing kojic acid & licorice extract(it maintains one's complexion),ever since I read about Diana stalder's brand, pls, lemme know where i can purchase it asap.

*Do a lactic acid or glycolic acid peel at home, so the lightening products can get absorbed into the skin well
* A good sunsceen - neutrogena age sheild face sunblock, spf 70 - can be used on your body aswell
* A good exfoliating soap - Fair and White AHA soap, the one in the orange package or clear n smooth AHA complexion smoothing soap OR a good lightening soap - clear essence maxi tone lightening soap with shea butter
*Mix melalite forte cream, crusader toning cream and a strong lightening serum such as sure white serum into the palm of your hands & apply to the skin each time on application.

Best thing to do is to mix creams, creams are more potent than lotions in my opinion. In four months I turned from naomi campbell's complexion to meagan good's complexion, thanks to my regimen.
