Yet you (your pastors) never learn.
That's why it'll appear next Sunday even!
Until it sinks in properly!

I think you should also have the right perspective bro. If you think your article or message is going to stop people from giving tithes to their church, then you are also missing it. Your job should be to put the truth out there. Those who will read it and get it will. It is not your place to harvest the tares from the wheat. People get what they seek. If they seek materialism, they will always end up with those who will give them that kind of message and they will always respond. But there are those who are simply ignorant and they are those who will need to read and learn God's word

Jesus is not much interested in tithes for there are more serious matters than tithes;see Mat 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier [matters] of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

Even if you didn't add the additional #300 to your #1,200 for tithe, your prayers would have still been answered if you prayed with Faith. It has nothing to do with paying of tithe. To confirm your statement, you can try the same thing again and this time make it #5000 so that you can have an inflow of #50,000 per month as salary.
Pay the fellow no mind!

First, you are arguing backwards my brother. The issue is simple

1. There is no instruction for us to tithe in the new testament.

2. Like you acknowlegded, there is an instruction to keep; cheerfully and willingly, not of compulsion

3. You seem to assume that because someone refuses the tithing doctrine, it means he or she does give. This is quite funny. One of the biggest givers in the world is bill gates who is not a Christian and who does not tithe. So how you connect givers to only those who pay tithes is funny. I have seen many Churches were they dont ephasize giving and they still get people giving in multimillions. People will freely give if they see you are using it for a good cause. they dont need to be coarsed
You my friend is going in circles.. According to your third point , What exactly is your point? Someone gives 10% wholeheartedly and the other gives half his belongings wholeheartedly, no coercion whatsoever..so what then is all the vituperation? OK maybe we should scrap the name "tithe"and start giving half of our belongings monthly like the early Christians did..will that make you happy then?

Mr OP. U just nailed it. My Shepherd (celestian Pastor) at my church in the North once told me personally dt its not a must the congregation pay tithe to him. That they can give the money to the less privileged instead of paying it to his church. He said no pastor or very few will tell his congregation that but he just Ve to say the truth to the congregation.

There shouldn't be confusion in paying tithe.
Some of us that pay tithe and first fruit offering sincerely have witnessed the benefits thereof.
Please, don't discourage anyone from paying tithe, rather pray to God for Him to show you the mystery of paying tithe and first fruit offerings. It may interest you to know that Jesus did not come to abolish any law from the old testament but to save us from the repercussion of the law which our forefather could not adhered to.
The conclusion of the matter is that...
Pay your tithe always and leave the rest to God.
Are you not not quick to say "Abraham blessings are mine" but we don't want to pay the sacrifice...
Ask the holy spirit to reveal the mind of God to you in paying tithe...
Be a broken christian...
Give always... remember, giving is different from paying tithe.

The former is about tithing the harvest from the LAND i.e. farm produce, not so
Do you think Jesus Christ (Prophet Isa to the Muslims) deliberately omitted mentioning money instead of FARM produce?

Ok tithing na for only farmers. Bro your money is your milk from the land.....your produce

1. Is paying of the tithes part of ten commandments?
2. If one doesn't pay tithes would one go to hell fire because of this?
3. Why can't the founder funds the church himself/herself?
4. If only four percent of Christians are tithing, then what does that say about their faith in God?
5. Why can't you leave the members to help the poor or the needy themselves?

To me church is a business. They only use the concept of God to extort people.
I can't agree more!

Askin God for increase of salary, so i gave 1500 as tithe. After dat tithe dat sunday, not upto 3days my salary was increased to 15k. Since dat day, i stop joking wit my tithe.

I once did something that haunted me for months not until I redeemed myself later on.

I was given money to take to church, the chapel to be precise, inside the church premises I met a woman who complained bout her daughter who was hospitalized and not fed with a bill still hanging over their head. I had the cash but told her it was meant for the chapel. Had I investigated her case it would've really helped. I didn't give her the money. 'Obedience is better than sacrifice' that was the phrase that echoed in my ear that day. Later I had to give a priest same amount to help someone in need ASAP.

What am I trying to say, can we start dispensing our 10% to people who are in dire need or wait till it's accumulated in the 'storehouse' ?

Someone clear me here cuz though I assisted a new church with my tithing, I intend giving directly to the poor and needy around.
Run to the Bible asap.

There was money when the Deuteronomy 14 passage was written not so? Yet the tithe was not about money, not so
In fact the passage I quoted says if the place where the God of Israel is to be worshiped is too far to exchange the FARM produce tithe into money so you can buy wine, strong drink etc to eat and enjoy yourself. Right?

31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

OK I have a solution.. How about we stop using the name " tithing"..we stop giving a paltry 10%..(since you say Christ didn't tell us to give tithes and the early Christians and apostles didn't either)...instead, we will be giving half our belongings and in some cases all our fruits just like Christ commanded and just like the early Christians did...are you with me? grin

If I give tithe to my church out of my earnings it is not an offense to God.
Those who don't pay tithes are the ones who complain the most, because tithers don't complain.
Why complain when nobody puts a knife to your throat to?
If you are not convinced to pay then hold your peace, nobody has the right to force on you.
Wailers, hold your peace.
I once went to a church and to my surprise, members were holding their tithes up in the air!
I realized that why they pay their tithes isn't because they love God, but because they can't stand seeing that other Lady or guy giving their tithes without giving theirs.
It'll be a thing of shame.
And that's the only reason they tithe.
This same person won't understand it when I tell him to give 10% or more of his salary to a beggar!
Never.
I wish to stop here.
Need not say more.

Well put then, I suggest you read the entire Old Testament too and then do OBEY ALL THE LAWS there, come back to this thread, and receive an award for that!
Until then, excuse me please!

In this era of religious blindness, it is hard to talk to someone who doesn't understand the English language in which the Bible was written after being chopped and shapped before it was released to the general public.
For those that say Jesus did not come to aboish the law, they can go ahead and keep every law and commandment given to the people in the old testament. but it seems it is only the MONEY GENERATING laws that was dragged from the old to the new testament by our pastors.
some claim that those who pay tithes are more blessed than those who don't. there is no way of proving this as we can only speak for ourselves.
we still have the issue of FIRST FRUIT and other stuff that keeps ringing. Funny how the pastors turn UP the microphone and get more serious when it is time for tithe and offering. then they call people who have their tithes to come out thereby making them feel special instead of simply passing a basket or bowl or whatever is passed for people to dump money into.
You see people giving tithe of 10K and above but they can never buy bread of 2000 naira and share to beggers or their needy neighbors. They rather tell you IT IS WELL when you need their help. Even stingy bast@rds pay tithe and first seed so because of the money doubling promo they feel they will get in return.
well, it is not my problem if anyone wants to put their whole life savings as tithe, everyone with his own.

I am a giver without respect to time or season and I rather give to people who I can not expect to double the money for me.

I can't believe in all this multitude of bible verses you left this one out... Luke 11:42

42 "Woe to you Pharisees, because you give God a tenth of your mint, rue and

all other kinds of garden herbs, but you neglect justice and the love of

God. You should have practiced the latter without leaving the former undone. (NIV).

I'm not against you but put the whole facts on the table. In this bible passage which is in the new testament, Jesus made it clear that our tithe is important too only that some things should come first which are JUSTICE and LOVE. My own opinion is this, read your bible, pray and ask God for revelation knowledge to know and do what is right in His sight. Tithe or no tithe won't take anyone to heaven, tithing just has blessings attached to it as Mal 3:10 states.

Christianity is a one on one relationship with God, find God and all these things will be clearer to us.

Jesus was speaking to the Pharisees who were still under the law at that time. He was not yet glorified through His death and resurrection...shalom

Matthew 23:23 is clear:

1. It says the pharisees could tithe. Under the law of Moses and the Levitical Priesthood which was still in effect, they were supposed to tithe. But the levitical priesthood ended when Jesus died on the cross. That is why there was no record of tithing with the church in the acts of the apostles or the epistles

2. It says tithing was a lesser matter even in the law and was not as important as justice, mercy, and faith. Today, tithing has been elevated to one of the most important things in Christianity

Is this the standard of today's church?
Government's WELFARE programmes do this better and are financed by citizens paying their TAXES fully, readily and completely, not so?
