Frankly, the death of Ocholi is act of shame to our federation. I didn't find it difficult to comprehend what really happened that sent the minister to his early grave. Is either one or all of the 3 factors that contribute to a crash-free driving malfunctioned during that journey. Inspite of all the safety measures campaign of the FRSC and the billions of Dollars allocated annually to the ministry of works on road infrastructures that still could not stop a minister of the federal republic of Nigeria from perishing on the Nigerian road. 1. The driver. 2. The vehicle. 3. The road. |

gigabyte13:Yes. Certificates is worth nothing in Nigeria thanks to the "amiable" leaders you are defending. @topic,i cant agree more with the op. Yeah,he was called to bar...yes,he deserves to be compensated and more because his father was a colleague to the mighty but why aint they talking about the driver and the orderly who died with them? Has any one in political class come out to mourn with their families? What is in for their kids? I believe their families needs as much support/favor from the FG as the minister's if not more. In this case,i see favoritism and nepotism. |

No wonder Nigeria is srill the way it is... Many people die from road accidents everyday without compensation to their Family, why is this one different... Because he is Mr Ocholi... If Nigerian leaders have done the right thing when they had the chance to, this surely wouldnt have happened... No matter who leads Nigeria, they care more about themselves than the masses. |

[quote author=cramjones post=43600625]This is not the first time we would hear things like "automatic employment" or "automatic scholarships" in Nigeria. It has indeed become a national banter in the Nigerian political space. The latest one being PMB to the family members of the late James Ocholi, SAN. Let us see why this makes the government look bad, and why actions like this continually affirms that Nigeria is a failed state! Firstly, what does automatic employment really mean? It simply means that whether qualified or unqualified, you would be given "job". This further shows that an appreciable proportion of the the work done in our Ministries are performed by unqualified people. In a country where actual work gets done, would never have any allowance for "automatic employment". Employment in any serious economy is based on merit and capability. The keyword is "capability". Even if you knew someone to get the job, you must be capable. Secondly, this phenomenum shows that the job position was not needed in the first place. it was created based on emotions and the need to "compensate" a political family. What this means is that there would be virtually no work being done, but salary paid. Perhaps that is why there is no need to prove capability or qualification, because the position is simply created to pay someone salary, and not out of need to drive the goals of the ministry forward. Thirdly, this attitude brings us to the big picture of the rot in our civil service. I met a young man recently who told me he worked in the civil service in Abuja, and only shows up to work twice a month! There is absolutely no how Nigeria can develop if we see government jobs as places to earn salary rather than to work. When work is not performed nothing moves. Could this be why Lagos seems to be the only city that is a bit insulated by the recession because they work for their money and do not rely solely on oil money where less work is needed? Could the western world be right about their stereotype of blacks being lazy? Is it by fluke that Japan, South Korea, Germany and the rest of the pack are where they are today, while we wallow in our mediocrity, nepotism and lacadesical approach to work? GEJ did the same "automatic employment" to the family of those murdered as by the past Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, through the immigration employment scam. Rather than bring the killer minister to justice he opted for a murderer to remain in his cabinet and "solved" the problem by "automatic employment". Can Buhari and his government take a different turn, by bringing to light and fixing our dead emergency response system, dilapidated highways, and most especially fix our comatose, non-functional health care system. Won't this be a much better way to honor the family of the late James Ocholi? I wish the Ocholi family well. This is not meant to attack them, but to highlight a fundamental problem with our system. May peace and comfort anchor this grieving family, and may the souls of the departed rest in peace. I sensed greedness on this post. To my believe and idealy i think a Uni graduate is capable to work in any organisation except those which required specific discipline which judiciary is among. Beside if u read the profile of the son is a law graduate who was employed in the justice ministry then what disqulified him abi he didnt graduated successfully? I think is either you are politikally bias or you are heartless Mr Man. If you can put urself in their shoe how wil you feel? Do u think is easy to loose one out of ur parents talkless of both at semtym? Mtswww |

If government didnt do anything, this is the same group of people that will condemn them. They will say the man was not compensated because he is not Hausa/Fulani, muslim or some useless reasons. Look, It is very common everywhere for any organisation to go an extra mile to try to relieve the pains of family that lost their primary bread winner while in service. Please check with many multinationals like Shell, Exxon Mobil etc and see the extent they can go in this type of issues. This family lost the father, the mother and a brother. Please let's be reasonable here. NB: Who told you that the boy would even want to work with the Ministry of Justice with the relatively low government salary? |

Could you please stop complaining and leave PMB alone to finish his work, haven't your forefathers assigned and agree in one Nigeria? Why complaining? You haven't see anything yet. That's the [CHANGE] you want. |
