now, tell me what is wrong with the western world. Is it the air they breathe or the water they drink??
CookieBrown:
Women are lower than men period? Really? Well okay so your Mother and sisters are lower than me , infact their lives are worth less than male criminals , i can rape them and get away with it and i can use them as workers and pay them much less than others. If after reading this you still think women are less than me then you have just showed the world how low you reason.

What is wrong with Africans? Is it the air they breadth or the water they drink that makes most of them so stupid.

The NTA is currently showing a repeat broadcast of "From The National Assembly (Senate)". Watch it if you can.

You set your thinking in Africa alone and assumed your opinion should represent some universal point of view.

Madam, you better recalibrate your thought process and avoid the kind of cherry picking you have severally accused others of on this thread.

Now, let's even grant that your opinion were true of Africa. So, what shall we say of America, Europe and the rest of world.

You claimed that culture represents an impediment for your gender, but failed to ask how it all came to be. What, if I may ask, were women doing when men gathered to make all the laws that you claimed has held your successive generations bound.

Is it possible that men lived alone at some point in history, and consciously set out to make laws that will protect their interest for all time to come? How many years apart did we have between the creation of Adam and that of his supposed helper, Eve.

At what point in history did women miss the mark and why is a man naturally ahead?

The day you understand why you have dismissed all these thoughts in your continually feeble and wasteful arguments, is the day you will understand why Men have since left you behind.

I hope you realise too that the preponderance of the pan one side is sure to unbalance the scale any day. You may talk about fairness, merit and uniqueness in our beings, but to hit the road and assume you can fly with your one-sided, emotionally driven and gender bias arguments, is to say the least, pitiable!

Please be well guided and learn for your own sake to be honorable.

I wish you the best.
Are you saying that all races started from a Jewish couple in the middle east??
The point is not why men have gotten the upper hand for centuries. And how we should worship them because of that. The point is that this is the 21st century and it is no longer ok to consciously discriminate against people because of their gender.
Let me give you a parallel. The European economy is far ahead of ours, their society is trying to offer a model that brings more fairness to the table.

Why is it that you konvict0111 did not ask why the European's are ahead of us?
Why is it that you konvict0111 did not then conclude that because the Europeans were the ones to colonize us and enslave us not the other way around(that is we colonizing and enslaving them) this means that they're naturally superior and should be allowed to get away with racism??
Is that what you're insinuating.

That is why there are Animal Rights. After all we have hunted them for years, we can just say we are the HUMANS, we have superior weapons, we can treat animals as we want but the fact is if we did not caution our ABUSE OF POWER we would hunt them into extinction and will derive sadistic satisfaction from torturing them.

This point stands for inter-gender interactions. If you do not want a white man to disrespect because of your colour, saying after all in this 20th and 21st what have you contributed to the world's progress, then don't use such standards on women. If you don't want a whiteman to call you a filthy baboon incapable of ruling because after all most African nations are in tatters then don't also judge someone by their gender.

the funny thing is in your argument that the white man is supirior to the black man(not woman).there was never a time in the contemporary world that african economy was ahead of the europeans.e.g.the maritime revolution and all subsecuent economic and social revolution were startd by whitemen not women.so at around 16th century in your heaven europe, women were greatly discriminated. At the cape of good hope in which a particular ethnic group is controld by women, the european came to distroy their culture to implement their men supiriority culture..
However it wil be silly for you to think nigerian culture over the year have not being flexible.the reason why their is fairness and somehow gender equality in europe was the fact that women{white} have prove useful in the scheme of things but that cant be said of nigerian women in particular.. Just giving u historical background to white and black relation.

Bunch of sexist paedophiles

Listen ladies, you don't need anyone to give you rights, take it by force. Cooperate with each other, form advocacy groups, live as if you have those rights already. Look at the likes of Linda Ikeji, no one is giving her rights to own the mansion she has, she worked, earned the pay and bought herself a crib. Forget these old dead men, and leverage on what you have e.g. education, talent, skills , e.t.c. to build your lives and achieve what you hope for, good luck, I love women grin
No one block them from achieving all that. Let them put their self in order and put God first they will achieve more than that and first seek first the kingdom of God and it's righteousness and all other things shall be added unto you (them).

Aren't they satisfied with being ministers and law makers? angry

**modified** I just had to bring this post foward.

Equal rights Equal rights yet they would be the one to always ask for help in the most mundane ish.

Equal employment opportunities yet they would ask for 6months maternity leave, heartbreak leave and if care is not taken, they would ask for menstrual cramps leave!

Equal rights yet a man is crucified before the world and press the moment a lady accuses him of rape, without even hearing his side And if tables are turned the man (victim) is mocked!

Equal rights yet a man is expected to always be the provider in a home, and in a situation where the man lags behind, he is called a lazy man, nobody calls the woman that!

Equal rights yet in dire emergency situations women and children are carried to saftey 1st. And the men maybe later.

Where do I start and where do I stop?
God will punish the next mouth that shouts equal rights. Wether owned by a man or woman!!!
I agree with you jare, we need to consider the technicalities in discussing issues of this kind, before we can consider this African women must have learnt to live independently. Given our cultural values and norms, men are regarded as the ultimate provider for the family, it is said that ''to whom much is given much is expected', so if women are serious about their demands for equal rights, then they must learn to live independently, and must be able to provide for their immediate family as much as their, the situation is in short a catch-22-a solution likely poses a problem- the more women are availed with equal rights and responsibilities, the more institutions that hold family bonds together are threatened. Also considering the life of women, productivity will be greatly affected in certain sectors of the economy, if they are given equal opportunities-Maternity leave and so on and so forth. I mean women between 20 and 40. As much as there are certain issues involving the marginalization of women that should be addressed, equal rights is in my opinion out of it, We all have our places in the society. We should not aspire to the position of others. However if one person treats you with contempt in your own place, then you have a reasonable case to file.We all have our Physical and social roles in the society, naturally and physically it is impossible for a man to conceive a child, if you contest this and prove the other way round is possible naturally, then we can consider it naturally and culturally possible for women and men to have equal rights. On this note, let us maintain the order of things, as nature(God for believers) dictates. I rest my case.

Ma but we have a constitution which subscribes to fundamental human right nan what is the need of passing another paper again?
When disenfranchised or vulnerable members of a 'population' seek redress to their situation, laws are put in place to specifically address the concerns of that section of the population. For example, children are protected under human rights, but we still have the child care act to specifically protect the needs of children. The aim is to narrow the subject and address specific and not general needs of that population.

Laws are developed upon through Amendments. Amendment in government and law, is an addition or alteration made to a constitution, statute, or legislative bill or resolution. Amendments can be made to existing constitutions and statutes and are also commonly made to bills in the course of their passage through a legislature.

Do women have specific needs in Nigeria that needs to be addressed? Absolutely yes. The vague words in the constitution open to manipulation by the Yerimas in the Senate is not enough to address the specific needs of women.

As clearly stated by Ali Ndume…

"This law that is being AMENDED is very important especially when there is a CLEAR CONFLICT when it comes to dealing with widows, inheritance and divorce in our society"
Re: Nigerian Senate Fails To Pass The Gender And Equal Opportunities Bill. by saintjoseph(m): 2:39pm On Mar 16, 2016
I'm still surprised at ds bill. Does our constitution discriminate against women, does it look as if we have gender inequality, have we deprived our women Frm anything? Please ds senators should stop wasting their time on unnecessary bills.

I'm not surprised by the majority of comments I see on this thread. Nigeria nay Africa has a fvcked up mentality, which is why a nation's parliament will be against a bill that will, hopefully, eradicate violence against women(their wives, sisters, daughters)

Moreover, the comment that women aren't participating is as a result of the fvcked up mentality I talked about. Is it not on Nairaland working class ladies are advised against buying a car even when they NEED it? When they subconsciously make ladies develop low self esteem?
When they tell ladies not to dream big as if dreaming big is the right of men only?

Nevertheless, with increased awareness and most importantly, education, I see more women rising up to the challenge. 20 years ago, who would have thought that we would have female professors? Female engineers? On the other hand, we need to groom our lads out there to respect women and not think because you possess a D I C K then you have the right to r@pe a lady. It's ensuring that boys cook, wash clothes, sweep etc that we can entrench gender equality.
If we are to wait for the olodos we have in the NASS, na grey hair things oh.

Changing the fvcked up mentality of Nigerians is a task that must be done.
People like you are all "mixed-Up" in the brain!
You mix CRIMINAL ISSUES ...... with SOCIAL ISSUES! How?

Rape or Stoning (assault) or violence directed at any WOMAN....... are CRIMINAL ISSUES
which ought to be dealt with by the Law Courts, some of which fortunately, are also women!
There are so many Laws in the statute, against such CRIMES and they apply to all and sundry (Male or Female),....what we need is to apply them and see them applied in ALL CASES
Even if we pass new 'gender-specific' criminal laws, we are still going to be faced with the same problem the old laws faced ditto ENFORCEMENT.
So, why the waste and duplication of efforts?

Now, EQUALITY, INHERITANCE SHARING, are SOCIAL ISSUES that need to be tackled within the ambit of our CULTURE.
Mrs Ransome Kuti was the first woman to drive a car in Nigeria and she drove a car over fifty years ago, millions of women also drive cars in Nigeria today so this has nothing to do with gender-equality.

Inheritance sharing is at the behest of the owner of the property and the Law does not and cannot force the owner or dictate to the owner, how to share his/her property, amongst their children.

Mind you, Mothers also own property and if they decide to give it to one of their female child, in their will, is their own prerogative.
This is a "Social Issue" and to start making legislation trying to "FORCE THE PARENT" on how to draw-Up their ill, smirks of GREED on the part of those Women advocating for it. They should rather focus on what they can achieve in their own life-time.... and WILL everything to their female Child, if that is their wish. grin

Now, I support GENDER -EQUALITY, when "properly defined".
As a matter if fact, l think Gender has always been EQUAL since day one because they are both Humans, with sense, intelligence and abilities.
There is virtually nothing a man can do, that a woman cant do.... except in the areas of Biological differences (A Man can carry pregnancies, right? A woman too can produce Sp.erm, can she?)

Thus, despite being "equal", whether we like it or not, Male and Female have "specialities" and the best of each of them is harnessed, When they COMPLIMENT EACH OTHER.

These women making noise are not actually doing it to promote Gender Equality!
What they are after is EMASCULATION OF MEN.
But it sounds easier if they hide it under criminal issues like Violence, Rape (like it is only women that get raped or suffer marital violence? Men experience the same criminal issues but it is swept under the carpet because "EMn are supposed to suffer in silence! If they talk, Women say "You are not a man"!)

These Evil women are surreptitiously trying to pass laws that would render Men useless and at the mercy of Women for eternity.
The "White Society" have fell for these tactics and the result is what women want to replicate in Nigeria. It will never happen.

I am for respecting a woman, as much as respecting a Man.
I am for Equal opportunity for both Man and Woman but l also know that No employer leaves the better Candidate and employ the poorer one, simply because she is a woman!

Are we saying women are less intelligent, less competitive than Men?
Are we saying all those Women who are CEO's, who are Senators, Heads of Service, Ministers, e.t.c in Nigeria today, got to their current position on the basis of having TWO BOSSOMS on their chest?
That would be insulting to such women.

You would observe that those advocating for these obnoxious laws are Greedy women who want something more than what they have now (like those who are top level executives), but want to get it through fiat, not by hard work, intelligence and being the best for it.
There are also those Women who are just "Men Haters" (They call themselves Women activists and Feminist), these sort of Women are only happy when a man is subjected to humiliation!
That is their sole agenda: EMASCULATE and HUMILIATE MEN.

Like l have said before, Women make up the larger population of students and in some Eastern states, you would actually be right by asking that Laws be made to encourage Boy-child into education because the girl-child makes up about 70% of school population.
So who is suffering inequality here, if we are to be honest?

Ofcourse, there are Men (really, they are just Boys with a D.i.C.k!) who dont see the bigger picture of what women hope to achieve in the long term.
They are too naive and too ignorant to understand "whats-Up" but want to be in the good books of their ladies.
But they wont know what hit them, when women finally achieve their sinister objectives.

Brother, I think you're getting this wrong

The crux of the matter is that no matter how we try to embellish the truth, it will never change the fact that gender equality can never work in Africa, Nigeria to be precise

Under the contract of employment, I got to realize that the Labour Act made laws that make women enjoy certain rights and privileges protecting them from harm and dangers arising from workplace such as maternity leave; no woman is allowed to work underground (mining); no organization should employ a woman to work at night (in exception to those in medical field, doctors and matrons). Lastly, women are allowed to work as Law Enforcement agents but are not allowed to go to war front.

If we look at the things, we can deduce that women receive preferential treatment which places them beneath men. It has nothing whatsoever to do with misogny or backward mentality, it's just the truth in its unclothedness

I just hope people should stop getting worked up over things they know will be almost impossible to implement

Bro, you are indeed a man of wisdom and indept thinking.. Salute !!!

After all we have hunted them for years, we can just say we are the HUMANS, we have superior weapons, we can treat animals as we want but if we did not caution our ABUSE OF POWER we would hint them extinction and will derive sadistic satisfaction from torturing them.

Babe, I would have liked to address your post point by point, but I fear time and space is not enough to accommodate this need, particularly at this time for me.

Let me ask you simply and hope you marshal out your points with clarity. Exactly how do you think women have been at a disadvantaged position today?

Tell us what you think men have going for them that women are excluded from, and this from a legal standpoint?

I look forward to your response.

Ok

Under the contract of employment, I got to realize that the
Labour Act made laws that make women enjoy certain rights
and privileges protecting them from harm and dangers such
as maternity leave; no woman is allowed to work
underground (mining); no organization should employ a
woman to work at night (in exception to those in medical
field, doctors and matrons). Lastly, women are allowed to
work as Law Enforcement agents but are not allowed to go
to war front.
Are you saying that maternity leave is not right? Have you been to the labour room before to even full understand the extent of what the leave is being granted for?
The laws for mining, night work and working in the war front are laws similar to one's held earlier in the century that stated that no women can be doctors, lawyers, preachers, be able to vote, or even hold down steady employment. But as you can see most of the above have been rescinded and women have been able to break through most of these occupations. In Israel for example women battle in the war front as well as men. During the Biafra war, women soldiers were recorded.
But there is one point you deceptively omitted. That all these laws are set and enforced by men.

A perfect example of one of the many dumb negros polluting our race. He cant even argue logically because he has nothing to say. Why are you so afraid of women?
Go on tell us mr inferior, what makes you and your lots so scared of women? If you truly feel your mother is lesser than you are then you deserve not to have been born.

Oponu. if the west jump into the river and drown and they provide you with scientific prove of why you should also do the same, I am sure you will do it, and call your bloodline to do same cos it is from the west. As much as I love many innovations they have brought into my life, I would never swallow everything they ask me to. That is why you have your head there. Instead of using to think to your advantage, you are busy decorating it with dead people's hair. Wake from your slumber.
Silence!!! Black slave. He can't even type properly , all he writes is gibberish. The only reason you are afraid of women is because you know deep in your heart they are above you or maybe you are just very small down there wink. Hehhehe!

the funny thing is in your argument that the white man is supirior to the black man(not woman).there was never a time in the contemporary world that african economy was ahead of the europeans.e.g.the maritime revolution and all subsecuent economic and social revolution were startd by whitemen not women.so at around 16th century in your heaven europe, women were greatly discriminated.
You are already making my point. There was a time that European countries were extremely patriarchal and misogynistic. There were official laws on how to sell your daughter if you wish, beat your wife. Women were not allowed to vote or be voted for. There were not allowed to be professionals e.g Doctor, Engineer, Lawyer etc. The European women had no opportunity. I made a point earlier. Its just like banning girls from going to school then 20 years later asking why there are no female professors? That's silly. Why are there no as many African scientists as there are European scientists? How then you do you expect the European women to spark a revolution?
Do you think white women just woke up and started proving themselves useful? Can someone suddenly make themselves useful to people who don't care. They did not just have their rights handed to them. They fought for it. Read about Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Read about the female suffragettes.

The point of this is that the European men no longer go around saying backward shit about women because that the way religion or society lays it. They actively try to make it stop. That's how slavery ended. That's why racism is receding. The Scandinavian countries Norway, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium etc have one of the best grades on gender equity. And that's where people like to run to. Their economy is also superb.

Nigerian culture is flexible(Thank God) but we need to acknowledge that there is an issue with our gender relations and stop being evasive.

so you dont know and you are here ranting..
I believe I am conversing with an adult. Pls tell me why the bill was not passed. Senate house not passing a bill means nothing to the progression of this debate. They did not pass the minimum age of marriage bill properly so nothing shocks me with that house.

Pls tell me why it was not passed.
