I feel the parents pain. Some girls choice can be shocking. The parents will pay so much money to educate them. Then one jobless tout or area boy with big blokus will come and confuse and most likely derail their lives in future once the girl has helped them up. Are you single? Learn something; you are a Catholic, I believe. The Church doesn't require your parents signature. The Church doesn't require a sponsor. The Church requires only witnesses who are married in the church and are receiving the holy communion. The registry requires only witnesses who are of sound mind and of age.

Which church do u attend that does not requires consent from both families? Where in d Bible do u see such example? The right thing for a credible institution like the church is to solve related problems arising from parental issues for a well foundational Marriage.

I am not a Catholic, in my Church you must present a letter of consent from your parents both male and female before you can start counseling. They taught us this cos a similar thing happened in the Church.

Court certificate supersede any organization or church cert.

I know a lot about marriage. Those parents may be in their late 60s or even 70s. How many more years do they have to live? They are concerned about their own happiness for the remaining 10 years of their life and deprive their children of decades of happiness. Societal correctness doesn't thrill me. Please don't call me names. I've been married for over 12 years and I have a fantastic marriage.

Marriage is a contract that requires the followings to be valid;
(1)Both parties must be of legal age(adults 18 and above).
(2)Consent (the two must consent to be married).
(3)Witnesses
In my thinking,if they met these conditions (which I think they did) they are good to go. You mustn't marry in a church for your marriage to be valid, in fact,conduct your marriage in a church without signing court register it is not recognized by law,that is to say that the church doesn't contract a marriage but only give it's blessing to a marriage contract. I think the wife should brief a lawyer immediately.
