Senator Magnus Abe Leading With 62% Of Votes In Rivers South East — Poll

A poll monitored in Rivers South East Senatorial Zone has shown clearly that Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, former Chairman, Senate Committee Petroleum (Downstream) is on his way back to the Senate.

According to the polls conducted by a United Kingdom based Consulting firm, the former Senator and candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming re-run is far ahead of his opponent with 62 percent of the total votes cast.

However his opponent of the People’s Democratic Party, Mr. Olaka Nwogu is lagging far behind with 38 percent of the votes cast. This margin placed the Gokona born politician in a comfortable lead.

When asked about the reasons for preferring him to his opponent, most of the voters considered him a more experienced person. One of the respondents had this to say of him: “Magnus is a respected voice even in the Senate and elsewhere. He who has worked hard in fighting for the implementation of the UNEP Report for the cleaning up of oil polluted sited in Ogoni land. Ogoni people will lose so much if we do not send him back to the Senate. He is our only hope for now”.

On the other hand many of the voters considered Mr. Olaka Nwogu as a violent person who does not care about the welfare of Ogoni people and who is capable of derailing the Clean-up programme for selfish reasons.

As a member of PDP, Olaka will find it difficult to work with an APC government at the centre to allow our clean up to resume. “We have waited for this clean-up for many years and we cannot allow the opportunity to slip us”, one voter volunteered.
