Paulpaulpaul:cousin ˈkʌz(ə)n/ noun a child of one's uncle or aunt. A cousin is a relative with whom a person shares one or more common ancestors. In the general sense, cousins are two or more generations away from any common ancestor, thus distinguishing a cousin from an ancestor, descendant, sibling, aunt, uncle, niece, or nephew. Cousin is used for both brother and sister. Hence, it leads to confusion unless specified, and it needs an extra word/words. To avoid this, cousin brother (likewise, cousin sister) can be used. But... It's not just in Nigeria, 'Cousin brother' (likewise, cousin sister) is widely used in Andhra Pradesh and other states of India GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND |
