My people...still on this GA issue. My department officer said she would contact me as soon as the university sends out an allocation to the department regarding funding.
Should I keep waiting or I should also try applying to other departments/units for GA.?

Thanks sir. By God's grace, I've already gotten some admits (and rejects) sha.

You are only waiting on funding decision right? What is your field of study?

All the offers I got were funded to varying degrees and I've actually made my decision. Now waiting on the I-20. My intended field of study is Chemistry. Masters level.

Bro since you already have your I-20, why not chill till you get on campus. From my knowledge, most people get their GAs during or after their first semester on campus if they don't get it at the point of admission. Though ofcourse there's no harm in still trying from here.

Boss, suppose someone studies Pharmacy in Nigeria and wishes to use it to work in the US, what steps should that person take in order that his pharmacy degree from Nigeria be relevant?

This is the exact kind of hardcore/high profile application pool I was explaining last week. Applicants showing up with all round As in core courses, swallowing average applications...... Damn!

I got partial scholarships in 3 of the 4 schools I applied to. No GA though, just awards. How can I possibly apply to other departments for a GA position while I'm still in Nigeria?

hello everyone. Please what is the difference between an institute and a university. Middlebury institute of international studies sent me an application fee waiver code to apply to either MA in Nonproliferation and terrorism studies or their MA in International policy and Development. The school is in Monterey California. I actually have passion for sustainable development, human rights and all. Really want to work with international NGO's like UN. Do you guys think these courses are marketable in the US? My undergraduate degree is in Mass Communication, should i rather go for my masters in Communication? How marketable is this course too. I really don't want to go waste my time with a course that wouldn't get me a good job. Abeg make una advice me .

I should add this, SWISS FEDERAL INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY is a UNIVERSITY in Switzerland which is usually ranked among the world's top 10 universities in the world.

You really cannot do direct comparison here. Many Nigerian students are shortchanged. Many lecturers need to be tutored on how to lead class, how to set and grade exams. There are things you shouldn't examine students on yet our naija lecturer go on to root them out for examination. Sometimes, students are tested on untaught areas. At the end, they are so strict with marking! In US, if you failed, you are either dull or indolent but you can fail woefully in Nigeria while working very hard.

On the flip side, naija students hardly grab concept of their subjects. They don't know the objective, aim and applicability of taught subjects. grin. they just read/cram to pass. For instant, don't be surprised if some final engineering students in mechanical do not know what is torque! But students are taught to learn and apply here in US. You leave university with a measurable knowledge. You can do!

Many of our Nigerians only get to know subject matter in the industries.

This is so insightful, concise, precise and scientific. I never knew there are real life practical and very important applications of calculus ( I mean practically all the basics of calculus), linear algebra, numerical mathematics e.t.c. This is the real problem with higher education in Nigeria, we are baked or half baked JUST for the certificate. Just for the papers.

congrats. You were lucky! This is not a powerful interview. It could have swing the other way. Your answers where in phrases and short. Not a good way to answer interview questions. But she saw you are genuine. She got this from your work experience and closely aligned undergraduate course. It was a bright idea for you to have chip in "cheap school fees" because that is one consideration they acknowledge in choosing schools.

I do not condemn you but letting others not to copy your style without recognizing your unique situation. Congrats again!
