Led by Lt. General Lothar von Trotha, the Germans of South West Africa began placing a group of natives known as the Herero tribe into concentration camps. During this time, a man named Dr. Eugen Fischer was invited to German Southwest Africa as an anthropologist to study the Herero. He wrote the famed book Principles of Human Heredity and Racial Hygiene in which he claimed that the Herero were animals, that the German race was superior and he applauded the concentration camps. While Adolf Hitler was jailed, he read Dr. Fisher's book. Fischer's ideas of a German supreme race and the ideas for concentration camps inspired Adolf Hitler to write Mein Kampf
